The simple "Ok" at the end from Joel always gives me chills. She just told him all the things that may go wrong if he dates her, he heard both tapes and how unhappy things got between them and he just goes "Ok", meaning, "I know how wrong this could be but I still want to be with you". Such a strong emotional yet romantic response. I love it!

This film gets me every time. Love lost, love remembered, love rekindled. We’ve all been there. Our memories, good, bad, joyful, painful, make us who we are, and the thought of losing that destroys me.

I think this movie is highly underrated. Everyone can relate to the concept of being heartbroken & wishing that they had never met that person. The part that gets me most is when they're under the covers & Clem is talking about her doll; & Joel says, "Let me keep this one." It's when he realizes that they did have good in their relationship, & remembering the love is worth feeling the pain from the heartbreak. Great reaction!

Charlie Kaufman is my favorite screenwriter for a reason. He really understands human nature and this film explores the concept of relationships, memories and human interaction

Awesome reaction! This is, perhaps, my favorite Jim Carey movie. As for Kate Winslet, I would love her even if she was doing a commercial for glue or breakfast cereal. I think reacting to just about ANYTHING she has ever been in would be enjoyed by all of your fans. I enjoy watching your reactions! Thanks for all the excellent times.

My favourite Jim Carrey movie and the chemistry between Jim and Kate Winslet is unbeatable. The Majestic is his other movie that is really underrated. A lot of people don't like it because it's filmed like a Frank Capra movie from the 1940s and 50s, but that's what makes it special. It was a risky role for him and I think it turned out incredibly well and established, even before Eternal Sunshine, that there was an actor there, not just a clown. There are glimpses of the old Jim Carrey that we know and love here, but his reactions are usually so human that when he does go over the top, we're already sucked in. Clementine for me, as a guy, is probably my favourite female character ever. She's certifiably insane, but there's something about her live for the moment attitude and Kate plays it incredibly well. And does Kirsten Dunst play the same character in every movie? At least Clem bashed her character at one point in this movie, destroying the manic, pixie dream girl.

So... Eternal Sunshine is my favorite movie and watching channels react to it has become a go-to CZcams break for me. I'm almost embarrassed to admit it, but I've watched a lot of them. You two are, hands down, the quickest to pick up what was happening. And not just the speed... but the completeness in which you understood things. This is a movie that usually takes people multiple viewings before they put together all the pieces (and I would include myself on that list). Sure, they understand the basic beats, but they don't immediately pick up on details like 'why Joel said he had never heard the song 'Oh My Darling Clementine' and 'why Joel was surprised to discover he was out of alcohol'. It was a long time ago, but I'm almost positive I didn't put all this together on my first viewing. Suffice to say, I was impressed by you reaction.
The only note I have is that I've always interpreted the movie's ending differently than you did. I've always seen it as a statement about saying yes to love, even if it could very well go to shit. The sum of the experience is greater than the pain of its loss. When Joel says 'ok', he's basically saying 'and why don't we just roll that dice anyway'. They laugh because it's like they discovered a cheat code by simply acknowledging... whatever might happen tomorrow will not invalidate the happiness we share at this very moment. That's always been my interpretation, anyway. What's kinda cool is that, from I've seen, the fanbase is almost evenly split between my takeaway and your takeaway. I mean, that's some truly great writing. To place your argument on a the head of pin, so much so, that people's interpretations could be thought of more as expressions of who they are, rather than conclusive statements about the movie itself.

So First thing I'll say; When I saw you do 'The Truman Show' reaction, I wanted to warn you that 'Eternal Sunshine' may not be a movie you'd want to watch with your dear mom. Just because there are some... awkward moments in the movie. You guys were champs though. Second; If you pay close attention to when they're getting bathed in the sink, Joel's mother is singing 'Oh My Darlin' Clementine', Which is (possibly) a reason why he wasn't familiar with the song on the bus. Third; If you pay attention to the ending, it keeps looping the scene of them on the beach, as if to imply that they kept making the same mistake over-and-over. I read the script before the movie came out and that's exactly what happened. I think they thought it was too bleak to go right out and say it, so it was implied.
    Great job!

It seems like on the first watch of this movie most people think Clementine is crazy, but once you understand what is happening currently (blue hair) you can understand why. She has just had a major relationship erased and THE DAY AFTER this ethically questionable procedure, Frodo manipulates her with all the knowledge he got from erasing her memory, and then continues it with Joel's stuff. She is very clearly on the verge of a breakdown. I can't even imagine what that would do to someone's psyche. You haven't had time to normally mourn this important two year relationship, you get this person (and a big chunk of the last two years of your life) erased, then someone is manipulating you with the memories that were erased. I think all of us would be a little off kilter and manic in that situation.
Also, I feel like a lot of people miss that a big chunk of the relationship seemed to be good. Joel seemed to stop communicating with her at some point and Clementine did not deal with it in a mature way. The catalyst for them breaking up is that she tells him she wants them to have a baby. He dismisses her and insults her, and then doesn't want to discuss it further. That is what leads to her leaving later that night, getting drunk, and staying out till 3:00 a.m. This film is such a great commentary on relationships, memories, and emotional growth.
I love this movie and it is so great to see people react to it for the first time!!!

I’ve never seen this movie, although I do know of it’s existence. I really have to watch it again. I was watching your CZcams edit, and when the film is about editing your mind, you are reading braille on a cereal box. AAHHHH!!! ✨🤣✨ But this was a lot of fun! Thanks!

Written by Charlie Kaufman who is the absolute best! If you need a push for writing, watch his BAFTA lecture. I’ve never watched anything more inspiring.

One of my favs. I love unorthodox love stories. This story is the perfect cousin to Paul Thomas Anderson's 'Punch Drunk Love'. Also great direction from Michel Gondry who is like the Salvador Dali of directors.

I personally don't think it'll work out the second time around, and I think they know it, but that's ok. It's better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.

There was a scene, at the end of the movie, that was cut, where an old Clementine shows up at the clinic once again to erase Joel and you find out it happened many times before, implying they always go back to each other.

You guuuys, I like timestamps as much as the next guy but what you've got going on in the review section is insane lol! Who's got the OCD then? xD
Btw, I highly recommend Kate Winslet's film debut, Heavenly Creatures, an early Peter Jackson. True crime, forbidden friendship, elaborate fantasy worlds and repressive parenting are some of the themes, but do go in as blindly as possible, it's a good one for that. (sorry but Patreon is out of my reach atm)

I wouldn’t conflate Clementine’s obvious issues with her personality. (Which of course is very extrovert and outgoing). Any and every abuse of drugs or alcohol has a mental health explanation. Period. It’s a coping strategy, not a personality trait. And, as most people know, alcohol numbs your ability to make sound decisions. Is it frustrating? Of course it is. But I would argue that her level of alcohol consumption, while still mostly socially acceptable, (at least as seen from the outside), is grounded in a mental health issue. It’s not who she truly is, it never is, it’s just her self-medicating. And what’s more: Joel obviously knows this, or he wouldn’t even bother. None of this is to suggest that Joel is without fault, of course not. He has his own issues, which contribute equally to their downfall.

One of the most pessimist takes on love and romance and yet the movie ends with "it is worth" sort of message.
