The themes ask the age old question: is it better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all?
also I think that last shot of the movie with them running on the beach, but it skips and replays over and over is a nod to them being bound to repeat the mistakes, but them accepting now that the good memories are worth the pain.

Agree. And unlike many reactors, he remains focused on the screen when speaking so he still sees what's going on and reads the captions so it doesn't matter if he speaks over the dialogue. Some people don't seem to understand that others are able to process info they see and speak at the same time.
There is a cut scene before the final memory on the beach, where they are on a date sneaking into a play in a theatre. During that scene Joel decides that they can't beat the earasing and he decides just to enjoy the final few memories.
This is one of my favourite movies and for me, the perfect Jim Carrey movie, where he gets to use all of his strengths. There are moments where he gets to be goofy and childlike, like the "old Jim Carrey," and others where he's literally shattered and emotional and he plays both extremely well. His chemistry with Kate Winslet in this really surprised me. When I saw this for the first time, I didn't see goofy comedic actor Jim Carrey and A level dramatic actress Kate Winslet, I just saw Joel and Clementine, 2 flawed people. If anything, they're both playing very much the traditional role of the other actor. Kate is playing the flamboyant Jim Carrey role and Jim is playing a more subdued, quiet, introverted guy. I also identified with this a lot because I was in a similar kind of relationship just after high school. I was the Joel character and she was very much a Clem. I guess I just bored her to tears and didn't know when to keep my mouth shut. I think as a guy, when you get into a relationship with someone as spontaneous, impulsive and free spirited as a Clementine, you pretty much have to know that she's probably going to do a few things that are going to drive you crazy, so if you really care for her and want the relationship to work, you have to control the mouth. Someone had to be the grown up in this relationship, and unfortunately, when you've got 2 flawed people, no one was really willing to take on that role. She got tired of him not being free spirited enough, and he got tired of her going out, getting drunk and smashing his car. But while you can erase memories, I guess the heart never forgets.

I love your reaction. I will say you can’t do this procedure without consent. In the office they are making your brains responses to the items you brought in so they can zap them later. Otherwise you’d have no idea where to zap. So without someone sitting there and letting you map their memories, you couldn’t do it
I enjoyed your review and watching with you. I've seen it a bunch of times and love it. Agent Orange is very toxic, which I felt was relevant in the destruction of their relationship. Also, at the beginning of their actual relationship, her hair is more red which I think reflects the intensity of a beginning relationship.

Hi... I really don't mean to be rude, but you talk sooooo much during the movie. Missed some good parts.
This is a mere snippet of the actual movie so you don't actually know that he talked "soooo" much and missed anything. He showed the parts he talks because it's a reaction video...that's the point.
It's one reason many reactors use captions, so they can speak/react and still know what's being said.
*unlike some reactors that look away to speak, he remains focused on the screen so it's unlikely he missed things.
