Back in 1964 I bought one for $100 with money from my paper route. Powered 3 boats with it including a 3 point hydro. So dependable! You have a gem there.
Congratulations for that very nice motor! Next time at first start try to have the tank in a higher position. At the boat, the height diference between the engine and the tank is about 10 - 12 inches. 2 or 3 feets is too much for a air presure system. And by the way, for the next time try to set it a bit mor far from the wall. Dont know how you didn´t hit your hand with the wall. Very nice proyect!
I have the same motor, the Johnson 18 hp-1957 outboard complete with pressurized tank for sale. In roughly the same condition as the outboard shown above. It's up in Ontario right now
They should always start on the second or third pull, even in cold weather. I have started them in the 30s. They are very reliable. If you have not done so, you may want to change the water pump impellor, unless you know it was done recenty. As far as the badge, there is a place that makes a decal that looks pretty close to the original badge. What happened with the badges, the starter rope would slip out of someones hand and slam into the badge breaking them. Also do yourself a big favor. Get a barrell and bolt a board onto it to mount the motor on. It is much more stable than using a saw horse and garbage can. I would hate to see the saw horse tip over. I like your boat with the motor on it. Do a video of the motor on the boat. I have a few videos of motors. Outboard motor collecting is a lot of fun. I got my first motor in 1970. Then got serious about it a couple of years ago. I now have 50sum motors.
+Greg Offenbach Greg, thanks for the comments. That video is from two years ago. Since then the water pump has been changed, new plugs, wires, coils, condensers and points. I have done all of the seals in the gear case. I also bought a new emblem and various rubber parts for the cowl. It's our regular motor now that we use on our Lund S-16. I had it out around a dozen times this summer plus a whole week at a friends cottage. I like it so much I purchased a '58 18hp Evinrude and a '53 15hp Evinrude both of which are not running. I will work on them over the winter to get them ready for spring. I think I'm hooked.
+George Keats I am sure you are hooked. It is very addicting. When I first saw your video, I did so without listening to it. I couldn't turn up the sound. I have my eye on a 57 18hp. The largest motor I have are 10 hp . I do have a 15 Evinrude, but haven't taken time to get it running yet. It is electric start, and the recoil starter is missing, and it will take a little time to wire it up for electric start. Just not enough time to do everything. I would love to see a video of your 18 on your boat. Thanks for the reply and the video.
I agree. Esse cabeca dura pensa que ele sabe mais do que realmente. O filho sabe fazer um video mais o pai nao sabe usar CZcams para se encinar como mantenhar um motor. This is how NOT to make a video and post it on CZcams when you make yourself look like a clueless boob. Everything he did was wrong! right now when his kids are young they don't know any better. years from now, when they look back at it they will probably saying, "Man, dad sure was dumb".
That emblem story, sounds a bit dodgy, like part of the story is missing. If you're going to tell a story make sure you include all the details. And that bin is way too small for a tank test. You have got to be kidding!
M8! He was starting it up in reverse to begin with, he has a make shift week ass stand, and he's standing to close to the garage. Besides that most people get a boat before a motor.
Awesome VIDEO THANK YOU
I JUST BOUGHT ON EXACTLY LIKE IT
i love the son's comments! very cool.
Smart kid looks like you taught him well
Great job father and son

Nice motor 👍
there's no way any mechanic would rebuild a carburetor and change out the oil without starting it up. no way. period. nice looking motor!
Awesome.....Great hobby
Love this. We have one in the basement that I’d like to find a period correct skiff for and rebuild!!
I bought the same motor for 120 and the tank for 25 and it runs great!!!!

What is your top speed with the 18hp onyour 16' boat?
I just bought the same Johnson. Fair condition what’s it worth. Haha it has the emblem so 100 to start right. Let me know. Thx. Very helpful!!!
Nice video. Too bad about the emblem, but it looks and runs fine without it. Thanks for sharing.
i bought one for $100 running when i bought it put it on my 14 foot duck boat runs great
Como é que uma pessoa coloca um vídeo desse no CZcams ? Doa isso para um museu .
Pensei que fosse derrubar a porta com o cotovelo .

Sounds like the motor runs good. $100 for the emblem wow way too much.
pump the tank
it became a parts motor what a gobshite trick to pull
i could have gotten that thing started faster then he did lol and that engine could use a new water pump
+adam nelson Jesus couldn't have started that motor! It had a dead plug and a faulty pressurized full tank.
It had a new pump In it and was pumping gallons... what video were you watching? Smh
YAMAHA WORD CHAPIONS

Dmonieluv everyone’s a critic. Bucket worked fine.. as long as the waterline is over the suction holes...
