We all have heard those wild Freddie Mercury stories.
Clubbing with Princess Diana. The one with Sid Vicious. Hitching a ride on Darth Vader’s shoulders. These are just some wonderful things Freddie Mercury did during his eventful life.
However, you won’t see any of those stories featured in the movie Bohemian Rhapsody, the Queen biopic starring Rami Malek as the charismatic rock frontman. The film skips over more than a handful of these colorful bits that have been left to legend. But for those who want to know more about it, here’s a video contemplating why the movie left Freddie Mercury's charming style out.
Here, we talk about tales of music that your school classes probably never covered. In here, you will find discussions about some of the world's greatest artists, stories about their personal life and the untold weird parts of their history!

Freddie was indeed a great showman. But he really loved the interaction with his fans.
Even at Live Aid & Ay-Oh improvised bit that he did the crowd just loved to play his little games with him.
The Sid Vicious moment saw Sid simply get just what he deserved. He had stumbled into the recording studio drunk trying to provoke Freddie, but Freddie simply walked up to him & grabbed him by the lapels on his leather jacket & shoved Sid Vicious out the door.
People are calling it Freddie's wild side but within reason a lot of the time.

@@TheaterPup I disagree. They missed out vital components and aspects of his life that could have easily been added to the film that would have done justice to how Freddie lived his life to the full, but instead decided to add some of the most mundane and boring scenes that did nothing but undermine him. One of which being the scene of him working at Heathrow Airport where a racial slur was thrown at him.
The point being is that May and Taylor found plenty of opportunities throughout the film to undermine Freddie as a person with a lot of ficticious nonsense rather than celebrate his incredible life and how he lived life to the full in everything he did.
The film was a bore and the only part of Bohemian Rhapsody that showcased any likeness to reality was the Live Aid segment, everything else was made up nonsense to suit May and Taylor's agenda. Branding being top of the list above anything else. Total let down in every way possible.

Big miss was the relation between John Deacon and Freddie. In the movie it's like nobody, (especially Freddie) knows what John studied. But allot of the equipment and effect's where created by John in reality. In 1977 John wanted to leave the band, but Freddie begged him to stay. Another one bites dust recordings where so tough for Freddie to do, but he wanted it to be the best for John. And so on between Freddie and John. As I see Queen as a group, I also see Queen as two duo's Freddie & John and Brian & Roger.

The personal life of Freddie and the group is really no one's business. This man was one of the most talented people ever put on this earth. We should appreciate and enjoy all the wonderful music he and the band as given us. I play their music almost everyday and during this awful Pandemic has brought so much joy to my heart. I dont believe half the stuff said about him. The only thing that did make me sad is the actor made Freddie look sad with no personality and what I see of him his humor and love of life didn't show with the actor. Plus Freddie would have never!! Cos if they did, you’d have one side saying it was disrespectful showing Freddie’s darker side while the other side would say that it was the real him and it should be presented as such. I’ve read so many books on the guy and heard so many stories that trust me, you don’t wanna show that kind of stuff on film, it’s just a bit too much. My mom loves music and she would listen to everything as I was growing up, Mozart to Beethoven, Michael Jackson, Johnny Cash, Elvis, a lot of Queen and so much more so her love of music easily passed to me.
I remember very fondly when this movie came out. I was seeing this girl in college and I asked if she wanted to see it with me and she said yes. By the night of the movie our date had somehow turned into a girls night with her 3 roommates and I was just tagging along. We have a mutual friend that is a drag queen and another that was trans so they fell in love with Freddie during the movie.
Once it was finished we went out for drinks and they were asking me every question about the band that you could think of and I was trying my best to answer them all, by the end of the night around 3 or 4 am we were back at their house blasting Queen's music and that is where I took over and started showing them their actual live performances here on CZcams. Oh man you should've seen the look on their faces. It's one of the best memories of my life.

I could't agree more. I felt like they completely missed the opportunity to show the real Freddie Mercury as a whole, who he truly was as a person.
Freddie once said something along the lines of ''You can do whatever you like with my legacy, just don't make me boring'' and I'm afraid that's exactly how they portrayed him in the film. I also felt that there was some bitterness, jealousy and resentment towards Freddie from May and Taylor which came across in how the film was depicted.
May and Taylor were heavily involved in every aspect of the film from the conception, script to the production and really undermined Freddie imo and it seemed branding was more important to them than showing who Freddie truly was.
It's a real shame as they could have made one hell of a movie that would have done Mercury the justice he really deserved and to me they just failed comletely, not only with all the May and Taylor fairytales created to give themselves a pat on the back but also they created a film that was just pure cringe.
I can't imagine for a second that this film would be something Mercury would have been happy with at all as far as I'm concerned.
Let's hope a film is created down the line that actually showcases a more honest and real portrayal of Freddie Mercury, one that highlights not only the incredible musician and performer he was but also his adventerous side, fun nature, sense of humour and of course doesn't sideline the fact that Freddie was gay.
Bohemian Rhapsody was nothing more than fiction and I would love to see a fim that is based on truth and fact, his party lifestyle and the fact he lived life to the full should be included as it was all part of who he was as a person, alongside his more sensitive side, giving nature and genuine kind soul... All totally missed in Bohemian Rhapsody.

Freddy was INCREDIBLY WILD when he partied---ANYTHING, WITH ANYBODY WENT. It's no wonder he contracted AIDS and he couldn't have been surprised by the news. He did calm down later, but by then he was already sick. ALL of THAT drama could not have been shown in a PG13, 2 hour movie. He was a very complex person. Perhaps some years down the line, a more realistic film about his life can be made. Rami did a great job with the script he was given, but I have come to learn that many scenes in the movie were not even accurate, which is weird considering the former band mates are still alive and could have been consulted---clearly Hollywood taking artistic license to do what they wanted, whether true or not for entertainment value. However, in the end, I did like the film.

    • @mjsilverfox
      @mjsilverfox Před 2 lety +1

Brian May and Roger Taylor were involved in every aspect of the film from it's conception, the script right down to the production and the characters that played them all. The way they went about portraying and undermining Freddie as a person can't be justified. Despite it being a 2 hour film they still managed to add in the most mundane and ficticious scenes that did nothing for Freddie's character in reality.
They missed a golden opportunity to create a brilliant film showcasing the life of Freddie Mercury from his talent to his adventerous side, great sense of humour and kind and gentle spirit. The film did none of that. In fact they made him out to be this selfish, self entitled arsehole, The complete opposite of what we know of him through years of performances, interviews, footage etc and a complete contradiction to everything positive they had said about him previously along with many others who knew him well, they contradicted what they had both said before he passed away and after. This film was nothing more than branding for Taylor and May and was just a total let down.

@@TheaterPup Freddie was already friends with Roger, Brian and Tim before Smile broke up. Freddie was -by John, Roger and Brian's admission- the peacemaker of the band. All of them cheated and Brian was the only one who never did drugs. John took cocaine and LSD -the bit about seeing God in Was it All Worthy is a reference to that. They all went crazy in Munich -Brian has talked about it several times. They didn't take a break because Freddie wanted to fly solo -he wasn't the first to do a solo project and the band was still touring some weeks before Live Aid. Freddie didn't know he had AIDS then. Brian wasn't certainly the first to value AOBTD: he and Roger hated it, and Freddie was the one who liked it: There are more changes that I don't mind because I understand why they were made (Paul wasn't fired until later, Jim and Freddie didn't meet like that) but the movie painted a picture of Freddie that it's not real, while Roger, John and especially Brian come across as saints.
