- Even as kids in the 70s, 80s, and 90s, we were well aware that Halloween was more than one night of begging for treats... it was an entire month of merrymaking. The sweet sights, sounds, and smells of our childhood Autumns created a cozy ambience that gripped us and didn't let go. Halloween was coming, and we wanted to embrace every little experience leading up to the big night.
In this video we step back in time and do our level best to remind you of all the little things that made October one of the most (if not THE most) nostalgic months on the calendar. You'll rediscover the joys of vintage Halloween everything... Halloween decorations, pumpkin patches, Halloween TV specials, Halloween TV episodes, haunted house attractions, Halloween retail favorites, carving Jack O Lanterns, and more.
If you enjoy the video, please consider liking it, commenting on it, and even subscribing to the channel. We'd love to have you join in on the fun!

We would wear our costumes to elementary school on oct 31.
I was a child in the 70s, in a small town in the Catskills. We didn't get a lot of wrapped commercial candy. Our treats were homemade cookies, fudge, popcorn balls, apples, and one German grandmother who always made doughnuts. 45 years later, my mouth is watering just thinking about them.
That is incredibly awesome. Way better than mass produced candy.
We love Family Matters, Home Improvement, and yes Disney Halloween special. I love sugar cookies and candy corn.
All are the makings of a great night during Halloween season!
Whoever writes your scripts is terrific! Great delivery as well. Thank you 🎃💀 You made me smile 😊
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for checking it out.
Beautiful memories and video!!!
Thanks Soraya! Glad you got some enjoyment from this one.
Damn i miss my grandmas popcorn balls!!
Pretty much everything grandma made is to be missed.
Gosh Jon, I could feel your heart in this video. Fantastic job.
If you don’t mind, I grew up as small child during the 70’s. We didn’t have almost anything like this great video. The toys, accessories, malls to walk through. What we didn’t know, we didn’t miss i suppose.
Mom had a box with a few masks recycled from my older brothers past Halloweens. We had a couple fake pumpkins that light up and a paper skeleton mom and dad would hang on the door. Other than putting my mask on and heavy coat, that was Halloween. I did get to Trick or Treat just around our neighborhood block, but that was it.
I do remember the costumes in stores like K-Mart, Sprouts Ritz, 5 and 10’s. Sears also had a small selection.
Television wise I think the Peanuts had a short Halloween special each year. Same cartoon, just like their classic annual Christmas cartoons each year.
I probably didn’t think about it then, but even though it was very simple times, I still wouldn’t trade them for the world.
Thanks Jon!
Very kind words! Thank you for that. As for all the Halloween related stuff… having fewer things made those you did have more special and memorable. More likely that you’ll have fond memories attached to those items.
Awesome job guys. So much nostalgia packed into one video.
Thanks TRN crew! Much obliged.
This brought back so many happy memories. Thank you!❤
Thank you for watching! We’re very glad it brought back some fond memories.
When i was a kid we used to be able to go trick or treating by ourselves and then go to school the next day and eat the candy in class. Not anymore.
Those were fun times. The experience of trick-or-treating was more of an adventure.
I love that MLK on the calendar ❤😂😊
I grew up in NY(80s and 90s)my friends and I and my sister and her friends all got together, went trick or treating and had an egg and shaving cream war! 😀We couldn't wait to do it every year,it was a lot of fun!
Awesome memories! Our writer is also from NY. He got up to plenty of Halloween mischief as well. Ha!
@@RetroDaze Oh Gawds,he knows what goes down!🤣Ill never forget how hard this one kid cried when his friend threw an egg point blank at him or the chick that had a NAIR bomb her(that hair remover cream....) Kids were vicious lol
Some of us were pretty fearless and didn't have much regard for safety. Ha!
@@RetroDaze No we never did🤣
We didn’t have a haunted house. For us it was a haunted hay ride. No fun without the girls around, though 😂
Ha! Yeah, you need those female screams to really make the experience perfect.
We usually got our pumpkins from a Farmers Market (I live in New Jersey so we have TONS of them). I remember if you were lucky enough you got to go to Great Adventure (now called Six Flags) for the Fright Fest or when I was really little you went to the Brigantine Castle (if you don't know look it up, it was cool!). Lastly you always checked the TV Guide for when and what Halloween specials would be on 🎃🧛♂️👻🧙
Nice! That is an excellent list of October experiences. Now to go look up Brigantine Castle.
We had those McDonald's Halloween buckets lol. ❤
They are still an item that folks look forward to.
Please read and know I LOVE HALLOWEEN!! Like the vid,but this(vid) is what Halloween became in the 80's and beyond. I was born in 66(that is Star trek old). In the 70's Halloween was just ..Well it was just a day to.. Well get free candy and dress up. But X-Mas .. That was the day(in the 70's) .. The get the Micronauts toys,Mego Superhero or Trek toys, or a Tyco slot car set. In grade school(70's) it was barely a thing. You could come to school dressed up,but most kid did not. That night we did. I think the 80's and going forward made it what it is to day.
We love hearing the perspective of folks who have their core memories in the 70s. It’s a decade that isn’t explored enough in nostalgic content.
Halloween to a degree is not same 😢
In some ways we agree. However, it does seem that the holiday is embraced far more nowadays, with folks spending more money and devoting more time to celebrating it. Popular culture also seems to embrace it more and more.
