Such is the world of the 1-900 number hotlines of the '80s & '90s. A world of bizarre encounters with everyone from Freddy Krueger to Corey Haim. Need to have a good cry? There's a 900 number hotline for that! Need a good laugh? Again... there's a 900 number to dial! Would you like to be insulted for fun? Uh... well, okay. There's a number for that too! How about a hotline number for Mac & Me? Would you believe that, yes indeed, there is a number for that. Just wow.

When my sister and I were 9-11 my parents told us if we ever called one of these 900# the neighbors would be calling 911! 😂
😆 That’s humorous yet threatening.
I remember seeing these ads for 1-900 hotlines on TV. They usually aired in the afternoon on our local independent channels. I heard that a lot of kids got into trouble for calling those numbers and parents getting sky high phone bills as a result. I was warned never to call any of those numbers ever.
It was probably a fairly widespread thing to have kids calling without permission. 😆 The money was all the same to the companies though.
Wish I could've experienced these. Especially the horror ones. I knew my parents wouldn't have paid for them so I didn't bother asking.
Same here, though I (Tony G) could have from ‘92 on… and just didn’t.
Once again I forgot about the 900#'s lol. I think the NES help hotline was a 900#. Freddy and Jason were huge in the 80's. Thanks for the upload and bringing the memories of yesteryear back! 👍🏻🇺🇲
We’re happy to do so Z Man! Yes, the NES help line was very popular indeed!
"Part of your $2.35 2-minute call goes to local science museums..."
To quote NPH as the Toymaker:
"WELL THAT'S ALRIGHT THEN!"
Ha! Exactly.
I remember calling 976-WETT from the nurses office in Jr High. I was in the phone for about 30 minutes. I always wondered what happened when they got that bill.
Somebody got fired! 😆
I was told my dad's cousin got in trouble for using a more adult hotline lol
😆 We weren’t real informed when it came to information present on phone bills. 😂
Beavis and Butthead had a 900 episode that parodied them.
Only ones I ever called was at a friends house we called Gene Okerlunds WCW line, the ECW line and he called the naughty ones a few times. Memories
@@jimmylarson7856 😂 Did his parents ever catch on?
Not to my knowledge. His mom paid the bills so maybe she thought it was his dad calling lol
The only one I remember calling was for Knight Rider. You got a free “poster” from it.
Since you put poster in quotation marks, I'm very curious why. Was it super tiny? 😛
Oh man… talk about a cool hotline! Talk to KITT… only 1.49 per minute! 😆
@@AnthonyJRapino It was on nice paper but only 8x11 🤣
O god you know way too many creeps were jackin to that “cry” hotline
Um… none we hope?
Here’s some words that rhyme with Corey … story, glory… allegory…
This was way before my time, so I asked my dad. He's never heard of these numbers, never saw them advertised on television. Of course grandpa would have never agreed to pay for a 5 min conversation with Santa (they also didn't have a telephone until my dad was 15).
Probably a good thing anyway. That bill would have been the straw that broke the camel’s back!
This was great! Thanks for this one! 😊
Our pleasure! This was such a fun subject to tackle.
I remember Nintendo Power had a Hotline number to call if you needed tips and stuck in a game. Never actually called any of em', but remember the cool commercials! Good video man!
That was actually quite a busy and complicated operation! Saw behind the scenes video of operators working the Nintendo phones. Those folks had to be on top of everything.
@@RetroDaze No kidding, I bet they didn't get much sleep, staying up all night playing Nintendo like I did on the weekends! I got to check it out.
I called when I was stuck on Zelda but couldn’t get through. Good times!
Hey, no shame in getting a little knowledge to help get past a confusing puzzle element.
Miss Cleo……..
Ahh yes! Miss Cleo! 😆
Man you have the best videos out there, pure retro heaven! The 900 numbers were a great topic, i havent thought about those f3or years.....what a total racket, but fun at that, and oh so 80s! You rock brother, keep up the radical retro power!!! Thank you for such quality vids
That’s awesome Chris! We love nothing more than stirring up some fond memories of great times. Really appreciate you being a part of the viewership and sharing your own memories.
These got a lot of kids in a lot of trouble back in the day. You gotta do a big wheel video. People knew what you were about back in the day by what big wheel you were pedaling.
Big Wheels! The coolest ride a kid could have… up to a certain age anyway.
@@RetroDaze I destroyed about a dozen Dukes of Hazzard bigwheels launching them with home made ramps we made. Every bit of pop culture in the 80s had a big wheel.
I really wish I would have had the Knight Rider one.
@@RetroDaze had it. It had the “power brake” for coming in hot..
😆 So that KITT could go into super pursuit mode.
Ms Cleo. Oh Ms. Cleo. We love you
We miss Miss Cleo. 😆
I remember that but didn't something fraud about her came out later.
I remember these
They were so pervasive back then! How did something like “Mac & Me” get their own number? Why!? 😆
These vids should all have millions of views! Love the mall one!
Thank you for those kind words! We love doing what we do here, and hope that it shows.
@@RetroDaze most definitely bro! Keep up the nostalgic and amazing content!
Absolutely we will!
@@RetroDaze I stumbled upon yo channel and it brought tears to my eyes man. I was born in 79 and I watched the video that had G.I. joe, He Man,etc. Do you remember street frogs, cattilac cats, karate kat, tiger sharks, silver hawks, pin wheel, salute your shorts??? I can name more but I'm rambling 😂😂 Anyway you got my sub!!! 601 Mississippi on the check in!!! I'm about to dig in!!!!!
That’s so awesome! We love bringing out the nostalgia guns because it does our hearts some good. Really appreciate you coming along on this ride!
In a very early Simpsons Episode Lisa keeps on ringing the Corey Hotline and racks up a huge bill. Am guessing that was a reference to the clip you showed.
Ha! Did she ever get ahold of Corey on his 'personal' phone line?
@@RetroDaze I think it's just a tape recording in the end. It's been a long time since I last watched it.
Great video by the way. Consider me subscribed!
Awesome! Thank you for that!
@@System_Sega Thanks! (Love the user name).
@@AnthonyJRapino Thanks Man
I could be mistaken, but I seem to remember Total Recall having a 1-900 number when it came out in theaters. I think it was 1-900-GO TO MARS , but I can’t find any proof of it anywhere.
Does anyone else recall that (no pun intended).
Not sure on that. There was a great deal of marketing going on for it, so it seems likely. I mean, if Mac & Me had a 900 number… 😆
I remember I got caught for calling 900 phone sex numbers and said I was calling Alf hotline instead. Until my parents called the number being that it was like $1500 for various “phone sessions” throughout the month until the bill came in I was busted. 😏🤦♂️
Wow. You had questionable decision making skills in your youth. 😆
N u know those girls didn't look like that on the other end lol..
Best left to the imagination. 😆
wonder if any of these numbers are still active
That would be awesome!
I remember seeing all these ads late at night on cable 😂
Ha! Every other ad was a phone line at a certain time of night.
Yep.
USA Network.
They were particularly bad about it, yes.
@@NITE_SHIFTING I remember the women in the bikinis singing "Pick up the Phone"😂😂 man oh man bathroom here I come😂😂
