People might not agree with me, but i do think ACE is the Best Guile in SF4. He needs to be seen and played on tournaments, he handles all the bad match-up's like anything. Completely inspirational performance.

Gouken actually has offensive pressure against Guile too after a foward throw, or sweep. Guile's Flash Kick is a 5-frame reversal, it gets safe-jumped and baited all day. Also Gouken can really lay into him with a few frame traps and fireball pressure if he gets close. So really while Liang says 5-5 I say it's more 6.5-3.5 in Gouken's favor especially if his timing and pressure is on point.

this matchup doesn't seem as difficult for guile as people are making it out to be. His fundamentals are great and gouken is slow to get in, which is great for him. Having said that, ACE definitely showed a little more clutch. Thanks Yoga!

There are videos of him and Bullcat doing insane long-chain, flashy combos, so we know they can do them.
However, this Guile is one of the highest-ranking ones online and they know each other. He will not fall for those tricks so the only options is to hadoken and try to keep Guile back and contained.
awesome match. honestly was expecting more from strawberries. guess the matchup wasnt in his favor. guile can be a tough matchup, especially aces. i have trouble with both guiles and goukens. ....'.
No it's because he doesn't want to make super come out. The shortcut system can give you super from negative edge fireball motions. I do something similar with Fei long.

Guile is a defensive character. Guile is meant to be played walking back SB and AAs to keep the opponent out, but this is 1 of the few MUs were Guile actually has to walk forward because Guile can't win the fireball war.
Gouken's recovery time on his projectiles is too fast to punish him. His startup on his projectiles is slow though. There is the chance for Guile to do some damage. ACE makes this MU look easy, but trust me it's not easy for Guile. It's more a 5.5 - 4.5 MU in Gouken's favor.

Gouken has the fastest fireball recovery in the game - Guile's main tool is his awesome boom recovery + decent normals and command normals. This is why Gouken wins. Because he has a greater fireball.

Is there a reason to cancel the flash kick and basically just walk near your opponent around later? That's what ace seems to be doing.

Guile has to use a meter stock to throw an EX Boom, which means he'll only get to throw so many. Gouken can spit out normal fireballs at a higher rate than Guile does, because Guile is limited by his back-charge time. This means Gouken gets more chip than Guile does from fireball wars, even if Guile makes smart use of EX Booms. To make up the deficit, Guile needs to get in, which is hard to do against Gouken's short-recovery blue-balls-of-death unless you make a prediction, which is risky.
Ace really gave Strawberry a run for his money in this one, but he did start learning how to fight Ace as the games proceeded.
Ah shit... Let me roll a blunt for this one.

Normally Guile wins fireball wars, but because Gouken's is as fast as it is in terms of total frames, and he has no need to charge before throwing a fireball, the fireball war gets to a point where Guile only barely completes a back charge in time to neutralize one of Gouken's fireballs at point blank. Because of this, Gouken tends to get more chip from fireball wars than Guile does, and Guile needs to do something risky to make up the difference a lot of the time.
I wonder how ACE would've adapted vs Infiltration's Gouken
lol i do that combo too it's flashy does a good bit of damage if you can get more damaging links in the beginning.
different players match-up different even thought they are using the same character, the Infiltration vs Gameout, one particular characteristic was how Gameout let Gouken charge his hadoken as many times as Infiltration wanted to which is suicidal, that is something Ace would not let you do. there was also no SonicB>LK>SonicB pressure by Gameout, which does wonders against Gouken, overall Ace is just a fucking beast, understands the match-up better.

He can combo into Fireballs from all three of those with a CH, so yeah, kinda. And why the hell would you want to do cMK -> Fireball with Gouken...?
im genuinely curious, how is this matchup in Gouken's favor? Seeing as how Proud usually plays very aggressive, i felt like most of his advances got shut down right away, especially since Ace can recover from sonic booms so quickly and Gouken seems to rely heavily on projectiles
Guile still loses the fireball war despite the Boom's speed, because he's restricted by his charge time, whereas Gouken has no charge time and can throw a fireball much more quickly after his last one is thrown. Every high-level match between Guile and Gouken you will ever see will feature Guile barely neutralizing Gouken's fireballs at point blank, and it's because he can't immediately spit out a second fireball after the previous one is neutralized, but Gouken can. EX Booms barely help.
Im assuming this is in goukens favor because of what infiltration did to dieminion but is it really?

It looks like a bad match up for Gouken. even though proudstrawberry lost 5-1, if you pay attention to the reads and whatnot, it was all actually quite close. in this match, guile just has more options. btw, big thanks for uploading this. although we have to be realistic in assuming that few top japanese players are going to want to participate in sets like this, I am hopeful we'll get other great sets.

no, it's heavily in goukens favor when its dieminion vs infiltration.
All the Goukens i've vs.ed use Hadoken like no tomorrow...I'M Suprised Ace actually won against him a few times.

This is a good matchup for Gouken, the problem is not the char, the problem is ACE.. is a monster.
For those of you who said that the only reason why Infiltration rapes Dieminion is because Dieminion doesnt know the match up, watch the Infiltration vs GameOuttttt FT3 posted on Eventhubs last night. Same result, his Gouken is just godlike.
Its to make sure he doesn't get punished in full if it gets blocked.
Happy this went down how it did but strawberry is still a great player.

like his demon flip setup where he does it then goes for the frame trap standing medium punch or the throw...did you know that you can flash kick through in between him landing the demon flip and him doing the frame trap or throw? its not a true block string but 99% of guiles out there block instead of using an escape route like the fk or fadc backwards...it makes the gouken second guess his pressure

Proud had many chances of winning moreif he didn't rely on throwing. Ace seems to be more prepared for throws then Gouken explosive damage. Proud would throw during a jump in instead linking big damage combos. That would made Ace more cautious
Ace ia good at sertinf his opponent where he wants them and Proud was where he wanted him.
Also Proud was conditioned heavily with Sonic Booms. Since at mid-full screen Gouken's main approach is fireball and Ace preyed on it.

He still loses fireball wars overall because Gouken will almost always be able to block the second hit of the EX Boom. Meanwhile, Guile is taking stray hits or chip from the fireballs he doesn't manage to neutralize with booms or when he messes up his charge timing. Regardless of EX Boom, Guile loses fireball wars to Gouken.

Im not claiming to know everything. I have no clue of whose favor this matchup is. I only know from experience with Gouken that A. he could have palmed through some of those sonicbooms, and B. he didnt demon flip as much as he could have to punish some of the sonic booms i know he knew were coming. Ace played very well and that's all there is to it.
