Bonneville Dam Shad Fishing 6/14/2021 Washington

- How to fish for shad below Bonneville dam on the Washington side.
Because the flow is slower and calmer, I use lighter sinker and line. Caught 20 fish within 2 hours is about the average catch rate for me when the run is picking up to 100,000 daily fish count.
Tackle setup:
8 1/2' 8-17lbs medium Okuma steelhead rod
Cheap generic spin reel
10lbs mono main, 10lbs mono leader 3.5ft long
3/8 oz teardrop sinker
15 years ago, I caught a MONSTER sturgeon there. We would fling oit the line and sinker with a water balloon launcher. PLUNK! I had to tie myself to a rock. I will NEVER forget that day. Lots of snags there too. Great place for earning cash on the squawfish too.
We were on the Washington side.

When i was 12 or so me and my dad were up river of the dam in a 12' aluminum boat when we got caught in a huge thunder storm. It was a scary race back to stevenson. Waves were almost 2 feet high and lightning cracking all around. There was 8 inches of water in the boat when we got back.

Thanks man! 10lbs test mono main, 10lbs test mono leader 3.5ft long, red/white dart seems to be working that day for me. Gold and green are the other colors that work well for me during sunny days. Hope that helps, cheers!

In the states you guys have no limit? Here in Canada we can only catch 5
caught shad up to 4th of July after a few day not good always would bring home 20 to 30 shad

No bait needed, just a type of jig called Shad darts

Shad is weak, tighten up your drag dude
They have very soft lips. You want the drag not too loose not too tight
