I have a friend who was one of the female backing singers on this song - she absolutely loves the song and was proud to be a part of it. Magical.
There was more than one? I always thought it was one lady singing with Jeff and they over dubbed it. Tell her I would be proud too! I go back and forth between this and "TELEPHONE LINE" as my favorite E.L.O. song.

This song is so beautiful and I loved it then and now , the sound of it just pulls you in and its so sooothing and happy. I played it so much and would stop everything to listen when came on radio reminds be of just being a happy kid and loving music

This was my favourite song by ELO and I only knew when I heard the opening bars. I couldn't remember the title so thank you sweetheart and I hope I don't forget it again, but my memory is what it is and I only have to go through your videos and find it. It's so relaxing and the instrumentals are brilliant so is the singing, I used to sit on the stairs when my brother played the LP with this on it. "Strange Magic" was originally on their "Face The Music" album, released in 1975. It was the second single cut off of that album, the first being "Evil Woman". It peaked at number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1976.
I was 13 when it came out and everytime i hear it i feel the same way ...just takes me back to the warm summer evening i first heard it almost felt like the promise of something magical in the air ! If that makes sense lol

There's never been another band that sounds like ELO. They're completely unique.

It's great but not their greatest. I'd like to call their entire medley Concerto For A Rainy Day to be their best, though it's technically 4 songs but only by choice of track separation.

It’s one of those songs which is both very simple and very good. In a way that is more difficult to create than a more complex song. Another very good example of this from the same era is Hot Love by T. Rex.

Elo are one of the greatest soft rock bands in the world. Have fanned them through th 70s, 80s and 90s to today, and they are sheer class.

Jeff Lynne is a master writer/musician. He cannot read sheet music, he plays by sound, and for those of us who do read sheet music we could not even try to play a song by ear only.
I remember this song in the mid 70's, one of my favorites. I read somewhere there was a lawsuit he was fighting to get the copyright to his own band name from the record company maybe someone can expand on this.
Jefferson Lynne was also a member of the Traveling Wilburys in the 90s. His influence and style are all over that album.

This song was written about a soccer player called Trevor Francis who at the time was a striker for Birmingham City FC and this is the Soccer team Jeff Lynne supports to this day.....K.R.O..........S.O.T.V.

I remember when they came out. Their sound was so different from anything else.
I bought their LP and soon after that a double album, and I was listening to them for hours and hours. Their music has something hypnotizing. When you`re listening to them it`s hard to stop and you definitely don`t need to smoke pot :)))

Strange Magic did have alot going on with it. Jeff Lynn is such a talented musician and leader of ELO. Such a distinct sound. ELO songs are so full and sound familiar yet each is very different. Good review btw.
Jeff Lynn is definitely a musical genius, I don't think ELO have ever done a bad song! I've had the privilege to have seen them live twice. May I suggest two of their other songs (Showdown and Rockaria)

I loved ELO as a kid. Saved my pocket money, went to Woolies to buy a record, ended up buying Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds by mistake as I got him muddled up with Jeff Lynne. Greatest mistake of my life.

I use to have a carpet cleaning business and had this stuff to get red stains out called Stain Magic. I'd always sings this song as Stain Magic while using the stuff.

I'd recommend "Roll over Beethoven", it's one of their earlier works, and a remake of the Chuck Berry classic, that they made their own.
For something later in their careers, I'd recommend "2095".
The live performance of Roll over Beethoven" from the North American tour ( 2019) is far superior to the studio version
