When you get a chance to talk to Hank Shocklee, you don't pass up the opportunity to hear all about the pioneering era of hip hop production. And the stories Hank told us didn't disappoint! In fact, they were so good that we saved them for a separate "Deleted Scenes" video. Rap music fans and music fans alike will enjoy hearing about some of the pivotal moments in the development of hip hop's sound. - Hudba
LOVE this man. So generous with his knowledge. Thanks for the interview.
I totally agree with you. The shit that The Bomb Squad was doing back in the 80s was straight crazy!!!!!!! I loved Dre's production style back then way more than his stuff today.
He and Yella actually worked with a lot those fellas from the east coast back then.
If I had a millionth of this man's talent I would die a happy man
Mark Hill I COSIGN on that shit!!!!!
I had a Masterclass of Hank some weeks ago for three hours. But those were the most inspiring 3 hours ever in my life. Thanks a lot Hank Shocklee!
Greetz from the Rock Academie, Tilburg
I understand what he means about going against the grain of clean production. Sure, it's necessary to master your skill that way, but what makes you stand out and develop a style that's truly yours, you have to experiment with elements not commonly done.
I remember hearing Brothers Gonna Work It Out for the first time to this day!!! -------------- few songs that revolutionary
Great Interview!!!... As a teen in the mid to late eighties I was hypnotized by P.E. and the Bomb Squad. Talk about coming with some "new shit", This guy and his crew made sounds never heard before.
it was dope they put Hank shocklee in the nwa movie... great scene with them working in NY with ice cube
I wish I could have been a fly on the wall of the studio in the 80's
Genius. He and Ken Scott (Beatles engineer) are my heroes
This is really the shit that separates the men from the boys. Public Enemy. If you don't know, you never will. Like the impact the Shut Em Down Pete Rock remix must of had, is astronomical. Everyone takes everything these guys did for granted
THINK RZA was FAN of the Bomb Squad!?
Dr. Dre was DEFINITELY inspired by the Bomb Squad sound , these bruthas put out nothing but genius tracks
absolutely I think they are the best production team in hip hop history
@@SoundFreqsOnline Hands down !
That's my childhood friend right there...and i have the tee shirt!
haha he gets so excited about the pause tape :D
True. LoL, that's how we all started, and it goes to show how much he always loved Hip Hop Music. I still look upon mine with fondness as well.
THIS GUY IS THE TRUTH
Imagine being the guy every legend u looked up to...looked up to
Hank Schocklee and Ultramagnetic mcs Ced Gee. Nuff said.
and yes mike rude ,,i feel exact same way ,,,and it was dre s main influence too! shock taught us all
His BSQ kits for reason are fucking sick
Rob Delakovias where can i get it from
they come in reason soundbank for kong, there's not very many of them but there all good
Inspirational in my style of beats I’d would sample crazy sounds and loop them
The Bomb Squad definitely took some inspiration from Ultramagnetic MCs. If u listen to the product style from Bomb Squad and Ultra, u see they are both similar and the only groups who can take like 5 or 10 samples and still make it great. 👍🏾
Wow. Super dope.
listen to this math he's giving up, I'm mean u got to put yourself in that era an time ,this dude opened the door to treaking the sampler at that time, mind blowing I'm bugging the fuck out!!!!
What do you mean no one at that time knew what the 808 kick was for? House? Electro? Techno? The 808 had the knocking-est kick from day 1! 😂
This man is a pioneer...P.E.'s music was always against the grain and ahead of it's time..That's why I produce beats to this day..
Fear of a Black Planet is a fuckin masterpiece .
Ray Pinky Vasquez produced the first Spectrum City records
Check out the Radio
Lies
genius!
@geeman856 I heard him describe pause tape and I was like whoa! I would sit in my room all night and morning making those tapes..... I even used "This is a test from the emergency broadcast system" Mixxtrumentals!!!!
Yup... you know your hip hop history it seems ! These bruthas was way ahead of their time and never got the props they should have . NWA's straight outta Compton album was genius , but its production was inspired by the bomb squad sound .
there is definitely with hardware that blows software out of the water....im just saying
....bomb squad are the reason i make music to day and whether you deny or not.....its true
thats what being a artist is... making ART and ART its an opinion... if its sound good to you then its good... obviously u have some rules to follow but thats that make music evolve!
this guys a nerd......nerds rule.
I guess you can say that. If Nerd is being into the details technically. I guess so. But, most people who have fun delving into the technical aspect are neurotic people. So yes, I guess he was a nerd. Nerds rule. Because, the sounds he ended up producing for Public Enemy is genius.
