    When you get a chance to talk to Hank Shocklee, you don't pass up the opportunity to hear all about the pioneering era of hip hop production. And the stories Hank told us didn't disappoint! In fact, they were so good that we saved them for a separate "Deleted Scenes" video. Rap music fans and music fans alike will enjoy hearing about some of the pivotal moments in the development of hip hop's sound.

    I totally agree with you. The shit that The Bomb Squad was doing back in the 80s was straight crazy!!!!!!! I loved Dre's production style back then way more than his stuff today.
    He and Yella actually worked with a lot those fellas from the east coast back then.

    I had a Masterclass of Hank some weeks ago for three hours. But those were the most inspiring 3 hours ever in my life. Thanks a lot Hank Shocklee!

    I understand what he means about going against the grain of clean production. Sure, it's necessary to master your skill that way, but what makes you stand out and develop a style that's truly yours, you have to experiment with elements not commonly done.

    Great Interview!!!... As a teen in the mid to late eighties I was hypnotized by P.E. and the Bomb Squad. Talk about coming with some "new shit", This guy and his crew made sounds never heard before.

    This is really the shit that separates the men from the boys. Public Enemy. If you don't know, you never will. Like the impact the Shut Em Down Pete Rock remix must of had, is astronomical. Everyone takes everything these guys did for granted

    The Bomb Squad definitely took some inspiration from Ultramagnetic MCs. If u listen to the product style from Bomb Squad and Ultra, u see they are both similar and the only groups who can take like 5 or 10 samples and still make it great. 👍🏾

    Yup... you know your hip hop history it seems ! These bruthas was way ahead of their time and never got the props they should have . NWA's straight outta Compton album was genius , but its production was inspired by the bomb squad sound .

      I guess you can say that. If Nerd is being into the details technically. I guess so. But, most people who have fun delving into the technical aspect are neurotic people. So yes, I guess he was a nerd. Nerds rule. Because, the sounds he ended up producing for Public Enemy is genius.

    hey martin lee ,,yea man where do they show hank in the movie straight outta compton…i loved amerikkas most wanted n feel they rushed a lot of the movie after they broke up in the movie,,,,before cube made amerikkka s most,,remember we heard burn holly wood burn,,,which had my favorite rappers at the time chuck d ,,big daddy kane and Ice cube!! love the bomb squad the best!!!!!
