I came here just to fast forward to a point to check out the mountain view and then move on, but I actually watched the entire 2 hour long video from start to finish and I don't regret a minute of it. You guys are not only great at building houses, your in front of and behind-of camera skills are also amazing. Very entertaining to watch. I'm doing some building (sheds and barns) on my own property in my free time, but I'm not a craftsman...which I really regret. I love working wtih wood and also with concrete and the physical labor outside, especially when the weather is nice. In my next life, I'll be a craftsman and build some nice houses, with a nice crew. =)

After helping design and build buildings and houses for 52 years, I am amazed you guys put raw wood supports surrounded by dirt. Even con crete is a bad idea. My suggestion is to pour a base such as a minimum 12" diameter concrete with a Simpson base plate adapter and bolt in the concrete. The Simpson base plate has an internal galvanized U-shaped plate that raises the bottom of the wood post up about 1/2 inch above the base, and helps prevent rotting. Based on your work I'm sure you know this.

The process, the mistakes and struggles, the visitors, the jokes, the rain and indecisiveness (which varies from employee to boss), except for the brands, materials and some strategies used this mirrored a typical work day. This is so interesting! I live in Germany, in a wooden house as well. Not a traditional one, but a modern, timber frame construction one. However, the walls are easily three times as thick, and the floor joists are not 1x12 like in this house, but something along the lines of 4x12 (although the spacing isn't as tight), just to give one example.
