  • In this video I buy this old 1990 Chevy G20 conversion van and transform it into a modern, handmade, luxurious camper van complete with a hidden tv, sink, fridge, maple cabinets, vinyl floor, cedar ceiling, pot lights, neon lights and retractable barbeque. This detailed build video outlines the entire building process complete with narration and full explanation of each step. Then I take my new camper van on a camping trip in the Canadian wilderness.
The entire livable van build cost $7000 CAD in renovations, plus $6000 for the van itself.

As a beginner czcams.com/users/postUgkxBE-xSmFU7PIaMFUmmhnFxE035s5svtxeI was looking for a manual that would walk me through the basics with detailed instructions and this book does just that. The book caters to both the beginner and more experienced DIY enthusiast with builds varying in complexity, from straightforward projects such as the one we've completed, to more ambitious builds. Absolutely on trend, with instructions on how to install solar panels, green roofs and sweet chestnut shakes - It's given me lots of ideas for future projects!

I have watched in one sitting too! I did like the video and admire the work done. Here is honest feedback:
+ Couch cushions turned out so stylish
+ Grey paint is way better than plain wood
+ Tabletop finish surprised me with simplicity
+ Low voltage circuit box very efficient
    + Cabinetry was cool
+ Ceiling looked cooler than I thought
+ Carpet and adhesive technique was a discovery
+ Glue gun a fabric was a discovery too
    + floor done very nicely
    - weird model was chase as a base, GMC Savanna is much more spacious and not a lot more expensive
    - old model, engine can make this van eating too much gasoline and break often
    - lots of space remained unused, just wasted covered
    - two cool windows on the roof remained unused
    - one side window completely covered could be a nice place for one more sun panel
    - no toilet
    - no shower
    - no wash machine
    - no propane cooker shown or added to the bill
    - no Internet router shown
    - final bill didn't include a dozen fency tools you used
    - no wind generator
    - front chair legs remained nasty color
    instead of being painted black
    - the whole van needs a paint job
    - the bed barely can accommodate you fully stretched
    - white, grey, black water supply and waste is not finished
    - electricity outer outlet (to charge the battery from outside camp supply) or from engine alternator is missing.
    - satellite and CB radio is missing
    - plants are not going to survive any ride, so why show them inside?

THEN HE SAID “so we decided had to change direction and make it a gym.” Do y’all understand how building and dwelling permits work? My wife and I bought an 89 G20 conversion in Vancouver about 18 years ago. We drove it all across Canada and then back across the USA. Stayed in State and National Parks whenever possible and lots of regular camp site in between. Had an absolute blast. We had to leave it behind when we left the USA. I miss that van. Great memories.

hi, I'm from Malaysia, a video clip that's not boring and I'm excited to watch as you modify your van to vancamper style. Not using a lot of capital but with a little skill can transform the interior of a van into a place where you can relax and travel to a quiet and peaceful place. I like to see the making of a video about the modification of a van into a camper van. I think you can modify the two mirrors above into a lamp that can illuminate the situation at night. Ok.. I hope you will make many more videos about it about something you made up.

Well that is outstanding. Better than my build by quite a margin. One thing that I found really helped with having a barbecue (Coleman grill) sitting on my underbed drawer was a shower curtain to pull across the back. Cut down to size and trimmed with neodymium magnets, it kept out the cooking grease, bugs, and generally people staring into your home when you were cooking or just had the bay doors open. Easy enough to pull open as needed. I'm adding a pair of roll away awnings right now. One small one across the back (because who wants to cook in the rain) and a longer one over the side door. Both should make it real handy for rain water collection, too. Can never do with enough fresh water!

Great show in the middle of the night, lots of tips. One small thing from a furniture maker was the attachment of the walnut countertop. Solid wood constantly expands and contracts from relative humidity, and putting fixed screws into it doesn’t allow for expansion and contraction of the piece, which *could* cause a crack at any of those screws. Slotted holes in the plywood beneath, or special washers that hold it down but let it slide etc. Look up ‘wood movement.’ Especially in a hot or cold car … Finish on both sides, too, to slow moisture movement in and out of pores.

Your real secret in your projects I think would be your "planning", which I'm sure takes a good amount of thinking, calculating and drawing up. Then you seem to have the skill of precision. A lot of people can certainly try what you show, but you've the ability to get those numbers right and care to do so! It makes a huge difference in final results if all your planned "numbers" and markings end up on target. Well done to you! You have the right blend of describe-it, do-it & show-it for easy watching instructional videos.

It's when I watch videos like this that I wish I was more mechanically inclined. I went through a years-long phase about 10 years ago when I swore I was gonna build a tiny house. Thank God I wasn't organized enough to see it through, because I don't have a mechanical bone in my body. If I'd tried to build that house I'd be severely injured by now, or broke, or both. Drew-I think this is by far my favorite of your builds and I was just constantly impressed that you didn’t take shortcuts on anything! Your attention to detail was incredible. I watched the whole thing and I was engaged the whole time so good job on your editing and storytelling as well! The pacing was good and you did a good job of mixing up the timelapse and the real-time footage so it didn’t get too repetitive.
As you were showing off your finished product, I had a few ideas of some add-ons you could maybe include at a later date: a hanging mesh bag for produce or other food that you don’t want to put on the counter or in a drawer; some mesh storage bags on the back doors so that you have a place to put odds and ends that you want near you when sleeping; a storage console in between the bucket seats; privacy curtains for the windows; mosquito netting for the doors and windows to help with airflow but so that bugs don’t come in.
It was an amazing video and I look forward to your next build! Good work 👍

Reminds me of the old white van my parents had for road trips. Except it had a motorized back seat that unfurled into a full-size (maybe even queen?) bed. Had a TV and 2 captains seats in the back as well. I learned they sold it to a couple that wanted to convert it into a true camper a few years ago. Wonder if they ever finished the project.
