Another great video! I think the guy riding rim breaks and pulling out his wedgy is David Guttenplan. He's been racing a long time - 2018 USA Crit Series overall winner. Pretty incredible story coming back from nearly being killed by a car driver a couple years earlier.

I think that I saw one rider on rim brakes. On a course like this, I wouldn't think that it would be much of a detriment.
If you think about it, 10 years ago we were all on rim brakes. Haha. But yea, you’re right, no big downhills or anything so would be fine for a race like this.
