I feel so bad for the breakaway guy, all efforts all was in vain and ended painfully. I wish him quick recovery.
vain and pain
did he pedal whilst cornering ?
@@minkmoink he sure did 😯
He panic and took the corner wrong.
@Jeff: What's with the Telegram "send me a text" comment. Been seeing that on other channels as well lately. Is this legit?
Also thx as ever for another great vid! Enjoying them a lot :)
ZZ Top doesn't get mentioned often, but dude is obviously super strong. Was in the initial break, fought to get back on that break, and then at the end he's at the front of the peleton chasing the front two riders and it looks like he ends up on the podium with a 3rd place finish. And he's not a super slender guy either. Great job ZZ Top dude!
Isn't ZZ top a band?
Only sharp dressed man allowed.
He's got legs and knows how to use them!
*pelOton
@@skfl2372 Everyone over the age of 40 knows who I'm talking about when I say ZZ Top guy.
Thanks Jeff and Bryan for the tips. I swear I clipped in the first time 5 times in a row in the warm-up 😳
Dude great riding
He won one for all the Zwifters out there. I cheered.
That solo rider must have been so exhausted he forgot how to corner at the end 😬 Keep the good stuff coming Jeff I love seing these "novice" races, truely inspiring to try racing someday 👍👍
Steve needs to buy Sgt. Stache a BEER or many beers. Great recognition to hop on that wheel and be in position to go. Nice win!

Well done, Steve! A victory and a load of lessons 👏

Bruh this video was so entertaining. And tense! I would not expect anything less from a Cat 4/5 (whoops NOVICE) race. Thanks for the upload Jeff!
That breakaway guy's final apex was brutal. He was almost going right through the stop sign.
Why did I have a physical reaction to that intro. Almost dropped my coffee.

Rofl.... "Sgt Stash/Mr. Socks"🤣. Great race and win for Steve!
Best of luck to Bryan! Great video as always! I did the same, came from zwift and had great power but terrible technical skills and would do very similar errors. Was a blast learning to race more efficiently this past year and moving up the categories.
my god entry-level bike racing is terrifying
Wow, really appreciated that video although I've watched at least 100 of your videos. Back in my bike racing days (about 12 years ago) I trained alone and spent unbelievable hours riding, and on a trainer and hooked to my computer. Like this guy Steve and had mega fitness. And like this guy I had a lot to learn in the real world. I was very successful racing cyclocross, mountain bike and slowly but surely in road racing, and I was terrible at crit racing. And now I see why! Thanks for helping illuminate/diagnosing a problem that had stimied me for all these years!
Go Steve! Living the dream, bro. Thanks to rider Srgt Socks for pulling Steve to the line.

As a TT racer in my 60s, I love it when you poster the older guys!
👆👆Congratulations 👏you won a prize 🎁send me a text above to acknowledge your prize 👍..
I did a cat 5 Crit in Colorado and there was a group of 4 riders, on a team, and they did a brake away and averaged like 30+mph and just lapped everyone at least twice.
I knew the concept from watching your videos but did not have the strength to keep up in their pack. Crazy how competitive the field was at such a novice level
Had you jumped on the back, they probably would have separated and drug you back while allowing two of theirs to keep going ahead.
I absolutely love these submitted videos! Keep it up!
Every time I see Bryan’s crash I cringe knowing how fast he was going down that hill through the turn over the bars. I actually watch that video every time I do San Rafael to prepare me not to get under cut on that turn.

GOOD LUCKMIN PARIS! I love it when you join the channel.
Yeah that was pretty intense! Felt my heart jump when Sgt. 'Stache clipped his pedal.
Just did my first road crit last Sunday at CBR in Dominguez hills, your content helped so much regarding what to expect and how to play!!🥰
Love SGT Moustache/Mr Socks commentary. Keep up the great work guys!
feels like ive lived a thousand lives after watching this video... super entertaining!
Kudos Steve !
one of the biggest mistakes i made in a short race like this is wasting my energy and getting dropped toward the latter half of the race... save energy, ride smart and keep the windup sprint for the last 200m :D
As a fellow 50s novice myself, I quiet enjoyed the analysis of this video!

“Yaaaas officer”. I’m dead😂
old school norcal video right here... 💪
GREAT JOB STEVE!!!
Epic racing. What a start 😆 but it’s how you finish that counts well done!!!
Dear lord , that was epic! Well played Steve 💪🏻
Didn't expect to see my hometown on one of your videos. I hope to race it this year!
Good one steve🤙 crazy race though
"Sgt. Mustache here" 🤣

That was great, but man you don't have to make fun of these guys. They are racing hard. Congrats to Steve. Exciting race! Great lessons, Jeff and Bryan.
That was a fun video, exciting finish, ha ha! I was cheering at the screen! Yeah Boie!!!!!
That course looked fun!
2:23 Love the comment "zwift has prepared him for this moment" so true 😂😂

"im like standing up right now" lol that was some action at the end there
it'd be cool if you did an episode comparing cat4/3 to cat1/pro on the same course. like showed how the cat1 race on this course went down
he’s done it before it’s called cat 1 vs cat 5 or something like that
What a great video. Makes me want to go out and race a crit!
My man Mr. Socks was trying to get the aero gains with his socks. I don't even think wearing them up close to your knees is even UCI legal. I'm glad that Steve won it. Congrats on the win for him.
absolutely awesome end of the race!!!!
Very exciting race with do-able speed and power numbers. or... they used to be do-able for me, lol. I'll just keep watching from my couch, thanks.
Love the frenemies videos.
Fun video and exciting race...Thise guys all had a few important takes aways from that one....Sgt Stash would've gotten collected in that crash had he been on ole boy's wheel
Steve is gonna be crazy when gets more IRL race experience under his belt!
Wow!! What a race and finish!

When I first saw the mustache guy, I thought it was Jeff in disguise.
Man, ive been trying to get my spook on for Halloween by listening to scary story podcats most of which hardly raise a goosebump but that cold open made me jump.
That was awesome, I want more like this haha
👆👆Congratulations 👏you won a prize 🎁send me a text above to acknowledge your prize 👍..
Enjoyed the video as usual Jeff and great hearing your voice Bryan. Good luck in Paris, I know you'll crush it!
Zwift have me the confidence to PIN numbers on and the last two years I’ve Crit, Hill climbed, TT and this weekend CX raced. Zwift does not proved many transferable skills for the latter. Although I’ve fallen off my bike (once) indoors more than I have CX racing.
Hey, nice video!
Could you do a video about how to take a corner in a crit race? :)
👆👆Congratulations 👏you won a prize 🎁send me a text above to acknowledge your prize 👍..
Like a motorcycle race, keep the pace , accelerating during all the corner , and counter steer
Any chance you could talk us through cornering technique, not just in terms of hitting the apex but also ideal lean and position vis a vis other riders (e.g. inside or outside??). Thanks!
Thanks Jeff. Always great content and commentary. As you know, the five USA Cycling categories contain a wide variety of proficiency of skills -and- experiences. Basically, I'm debating your "elementary basic level" label because we know that some new, as well as years of experienced racers, are extremely comfortable and capable in a speeding pack of racers (eg category 4). Conversely, some "pros" can ride their bikes fast, but not in all situations, like the guy that took out Bryan(!). Sorry if I'm super sensitive on this topic, but decades of introducing new racers to pack racing has taught me not to judge. On a related note, Zwift racers have also taught us to change up our 2023 "Beginning Racer Program" curriculum, so thanks again for helping so many new racers. We will be holding more "mock racing scenarios" to better prepare new racers. Good luck in your racing tomorrow Bryan!
The compression hose make up for the moustache drag.

I’m just over here tryna bring my heart rate back down… awesome video!!
This was great to watch. I can't believe another faulty pedal caused another crash 🤪

Longsock's revenge at 11:30 charged upwards of 1100 watts for the ride. I can't afford that, even in the draft, bro.
Oh god I involuntarily twitched half a dozen times during this thing
sweaty palms watching this
All hail Steve, that was dramatic
For a cyclocross, MTB, and gravel, zwift is just a fitness improvement. You still have to go outside for the skills and multi terrain experience with different tires.

Let's take a moment of silence for Breakaway dude. Top chap.
That was crazy 😄💪

Bahaha, "Sargeant Stache"!!
Sgt Moustache looked like you, Jeff!
I ❤️ Zwift. But nothing beats IRL cycling.
Hi Jeff,
This weekend i have a Human Powered Vehicle Race (search this up). We have a gopro within our car. It is a 8 hour race similar to a crit on a circuit. however we have all categories racing on the same track at the same time. Not sure if this will be interesting for your channel but it is something different. I will be riding both the start and the finsih with both power and cadence. Let me know if i should send in some footage.
Like if you would like to see this kind of racing
Ugh! My heart rate it up! I've got sweaty palms!
are those knee high aero-socks on the guy with the all black kit legal? 8:08
This is my first time watching another cycling race from another country (except of course TdF and other big races) I didn't know that working together as a break away isn't common knowledge, our coach always emphasize the "work together: Almost all of us know that rule.
Tall socks sgt mustache 😂😂😂
I dont care, I am a fan of Stachio menache of the last lap :o
I don’t race (yet?) but I am always curious about gearing on flat courses like this. How much of the cassette gets used? Do you ever come off the big ring?
11-25 is good on this course. Stay in big ring and use 1 or 2 gears in the back
@@ryantreadway4142 thanks! That actually makes me want to try it on my existing bike, a drop bar single speed “fixie” that I had my local shop add a three speed Sturmey-Archer hub to.
dope!
8:00 not the lead guy in all black and aero socks looking behind him in the middle of taking a corner
So entertaining for a cat 4 race

MTB pedals ftw 🤘
Whattttt cat 5 doesn't exist anymore... ?? I want to go into cat 8 if it's possible hahaha.. JK,, good videos.. what cameras are you using??
👆👆👆👆Hello fan Thanks👍 for the donation✊ I have something for you 🏆.
11:51 Mr Sergeant Mustache Socks with the save
12:19 solo rider takes the loss, better luck next time (and wear socks 🤷♂️).
And 12:34 Zwifty Steve for the Win
Merci
The crash and the "almost" crash, were just when both riders lower down the pedal of the inside of the curve, so they were the responsible because that action lose grip. If you want the most grip on a flat corner, you lower down the pedal of the outside, and you are gonna pass no matter what. But if you do the opposite, you are gonna lose grip. Yup, that's what hapen when you want to keep pedaling in the extreme situations, you lower the pedal of the inside, and you lose grip and get ready for pain.
I used to race go-karts and apexing in a crit is so much easier and simpler than in a kart.
The rider in the green on the last lap crashed because he dove into the corner and his line was too tight
Bad line but he also clipped a pedal.

Do you think karting background gives you a advantage in crit racing?
Felt bad for the CBRE guy as I work for CBRE as well lol
Steve the 🐐
Did I hear you say correctly that Brian is going as a paralympic athlete?
Sgt Stash with the sock sanctions....Think it was the socks that made him slip on that corner? We'll never know.

no right turns allowed on the track but close lol
That intro made my heart skip a beat

Ok we need to talk about the REAL ISSUE! Mustache has obviously ILLEGAL HEIGHT SOCKS!!!
Steve!!!!

Proving that even if you don't call it Cat 5, it's still Cat 5.
