The unexpected hero who decided LeBron's duel with Gilbert Arenas deserves a deep rewind

- LeBron James' first ever playoff series was a thriller. In his third season, LeBron finally carried the much-improved Cleveland Cavaliers into the postseason, where they faced a dangerous first-round opponent: the Washington Wizards, led by the gutsy and unpredictable Gilbert Arenas. To pull ahead in the series, young LeBron had to perform multiple feats of clutchness.
This episode of Rewinder finds LeBron at the end of Game 6, a game defined to that point by one incredible Arenas shot and one costly Arenas blunder. James has the ball in his hands, but the Wizards are loath to let him beat the buzzer yet again. So ... who will it be? To figure that out, we're gonna need to rewind.

Something missing: Gilbert Arenas hung out with both Lebron and Jones. They were friends during this time and knew each other, so when Lebron said "if you miss these you know who's taking it" Arenas KNEW he meant Jones. Gilbert has confirmed this on podcasts and said it got in his head a crazy amount.
Exactly my thought
he meant a guy who didnt play all game was going to take the last shot? Doesnt make any sense
Facts they all played cards together
@@spenser6353 yes it does lol
@@osas5211 no it doesn't. Not to mention that he said "making it" and not "taking it." Also, look at that last play. There's no way the intention was to get it to Jones.
Ah the one sided Wizards-Cavs "mini rivalry" of the mid-2000's. Underrated part of my childhood in DC lol
Man the year before I was sure they’d beat Lebron they never did
Dude, it was the Chicago vs DC rivalry that sicks out to me. Ben Gordon and Kirk Heinrich vs Hughes, Arenas, and Jameson. Anytime the Wizards made the playoffs they'd be against Chicago guaranteed. Those games were crazy at the MCI center.
If you watched basketball back then you know bout it. They watched up first round like 3-4 years in a row
the highs are so low and they still came up short. to be a Wizards fan lol
@@Hi-NuAetherling lol man oh man you took it back to the MCI Center! Before Capital One Arena and Verizon Center. Good memories.
Gilbert's 3 to tie the game has to be oneof the most underrated clutch shots of all-time
Loses a LOT of value because it essentially meant nothing
Gilberts 3 and Ben Gordon's 3 in 2009 are two of my personal favourite forgotten clutch shots ever
Yes because he has a way unclutcher moment after

As a Cavs fan I remember watching this shot live. Damon Jones forever was etched in my memory for that shot, and funny enough he also had a championship ring with the Cavs as an assistant.
My favorite childhood memory of Damon Jones is still him covering his face after young LeBron posterized him.
Considering Damon Jones "shot a hideous 8 of 37 from downtown" at his worst, Miami Heat should resign him to improve their shooting.
Those mid 00s cavs teams hit different. Those teams had a tight bond. They were pretty mediocre outside of bron, but made do.
What’s funny about that?
& got dunked on by LeBron too
Damon had had such a rough year that year that one Cleveland radio host started referring to him as Amon Ones, because he played no D and had no J! 😂 But he’s forever a Cavs legend for that one shot!

The definition of staying ready. Damon Jones hadn't played 1 minute total this game. Takes and makes his only field goal attempt; the game winner
You can’t do nothing but respect that

That Wiz team was so dope with Agent 0, Caron, Antawn, and the unforgettable Deshawn Stevenson.
was totally expecting this video to build up to the reason LeBron said "you know who's going to make it", which was that Gilbert Arenas had regularly beaten Jones at cards and would constantly taunt him about it and play in all his minutes and dominate him while trash talking. Arenas has told the story in a really entertaining and open way on several podcasts. Makes the whole moment so much more *perfect*
i was really surprised they didnt explain the meaning behind those words. it kind of ruined the video having to read comments for the full story
But also, Agent Zero is a great storyteller but a less-than-reliable narrator. Enjoy the entertainment of what he says, but take everything with a giant rock of salt.

Absolutely love the love for Cleveland and the Cavs. Incredible video as always boys 👏
Those Wizards teams from 2004-2008
I always thought should’ve been better than what they were finishing.
They had a prime Gilbert Arenas, Antwan Jamison, and Caron Butler. A solid center in Brendan Haywood, plus eventually got a great defensive specialist in Deshawn Stevenson.
Yet were always hovering around 41-43 wins every year under Eddie Jordan.
Jordan is a bum look how good the team became once his parasitic influence disappeared. He signed Kwame and got rid of Hamilton for some old man. He was ruining the squad for no reason other than self promoting his overpriced $20 cost of manufacture Nike shoes
They could’ve won more I think all they needed was a good come off the bench guy like Jamal Crawford or try to get a better scout in 06 they selected Oleksiy Pecherov over guys like rondo, Kyle Lowry, PJ tucker, and Paul millsap who all know their roles and would definitely do what’s best for the team winning.
LeBron was that dominant. Really though. Sometimes I feel people forget the playing style that the 20-25 year old LeBron had. Absolute killer. An explosive animal who slashed the lane at will.
Hey, the last three got a ring with Dallas though
lebron kept beating our ass, if not for him we might have more than multiple 1st round exits to show for that era
I heard the story behind LeBron telling Gilbert "you know who's making one" was about Damon the whole time because Gilbert wouldn't stop making fun of him or something

What’s crazy is there is still missing context here. When Lebron tapped Gilbert’s shoulder he was talking about Damon Jones. On top of that, Arenas had told Cavs coaches that he’d play above his norm if they even PUT Jones in the game. It’s one of the reasons he believes Jones had only played 4 secs since Game 4.
Whenever I hear that sound clip when a REWINDER starts I get chills.
I don’t think anything can really compare to that 2006-2012 NBA timeframe. The talent was elite and good teams were missing the playoffs. It was still semi physical, the 3 point BOOM was in it’s infancy
