  • It's 2004, and the Sacramento Kings and Minnesota Timberwolves are in the final seconds of a prolonged, testy battle to determine who advances in the playoffs to face the mighty Los Angeles Lakers. Poetically, the deciding moment -- either overtime or game over -- comes down to a fascinating, longstanding matchup: Kevin Garnett vs. Chris Webber. To appreciate this moment, we should understand the intertwined history of those two revolutionary players.

Now, nearly 20 years later, after combined 30 year playoff droughts, they both appear to have rebuilt themselves into serious contenders once again.

@@Sticktothemodels I think there's a couple of issues with that..
1.) Kobe at minimum should have had 2 MVPs in the 00's and there's a damn good argument he should have had 3. It's completely absurd that he only had 1, but as we all know that award isn't actually given to the MVP it's given to whoever the media decided to push a narrative for that year. The same reason that Robinson got it over Hakeem in 95, Malone got it instead of MJ in 97, and Embiid got it over Jokic last year...
      - Even if you insist on including the 99 title to make it 4 each when we're only referring to the 00's (even though it was a weird, flukey lockout year title and if we are gonna do that why would we not also include Kobe's 2010 title to make it 5-4? Talk about arbitrary) the Lakers just beat the Spurs head to head in the playoffs more (Kobe was 18-12 in the playoffs vs Duncan). Watching Kobe's complete and utter destruction of the Spurs in the 2008 WCF sealed it for me - I just can't put Duncan ahead. Incredible player... Thank you for giving the world the context these two teams needed. They’ve been so bad for so long, many viewers of this channel weren’t alive to see any of these series play out.
To allow fans to see and understand when these two franchises weren’t the laughing stocks of the league, that’s special. From Sacramento, with love. Thank you.

Depends on the team during the height measurements. A team might measure with shoes on, another team with no shoes. A team might also list a player a few inches shorter to avoid that player being the center for the team.

This was a more interesting time where players would score a basket in an intensely difficult defense which made me believe that NBA players are superhuman for such feat. Nowadays, there's no defense. The rules are leaned one sided to the offense that playing the game no longer separates NBA players from casual pickup games.

I mean, there's a reason why Rip Hamilton ripped Kevin McHale to his face live on tv a few years ago over McHale passing on him in the draft (and hinting at several other bad moves McHale made). He damn well knew the Wolves could have/should have been way better, and he is a prime example of it. Thank god KG did win a ring somewhere, it would have been depressing if he never did.
