Chris Paul's last-ditch, stigma-shattering moment against the Spurs deserves a deep rewind

- “Chris Paul can’t win big games,” is a sentiment that haunted Chris Paul from his time as a baby-faced Hornet all the way until his robustly-bearded Clipper years. His inability to lead the Clippers to a conference finals allowed the critics to go off, and keep going off.
And while the opening round of the playoffs doesn’t, on its own, grant access to the conference finals, the 2015 Clippers-Spurs series provided Paul with a chance to prove that those critics wrong.
A seeding system that has since been scrapped gave us perhaps the best opening round ever. The Spurs and Clippers were separated by just one game. It was a series of veterans with a proven track record (Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili) vs. young guns getting desperate to win together (Blake Griffin, Chris Paul, DeAndre Jordan). It was old knees (Duncan, Parker, Ginobili) vs. young knees (Griffin, Paul, Jordan). It was the confident reigning champs Spurs vs. the “we have good regular seasons” Clippers.
And what do you know, the series went down to game seven. The final moments of game seven, in fact. It was time for Chris Paul to win a big game, or cement his legacy of coming up short.
Let’s rewind.

" The All-Star who dunked over a car " is such a great summary of Blake Griffin's career smh.
its sad cuz looking at his stats his injuries are gonna add him to the "what could've been" list
Injuries and underwhelming performance is pretty much Blake Griffin. When he eventually did start looking like what he was envisioned to be, the injuries knocked him more than a few notches down. Very unfortunate.
This was a pure marketing stunt by sponsor KIA - many believe that the NBA rigged the dunk contest, so Blake Griffin can win it (since the All Star Weekend that year was at the Staples Center, which was the home for the Clippers).
The Kia dunk has always bothered me since that night. One of the best Dunkers in the NBA, jumped over the hood of a car 😒 Nate Robinson who is listed at 5’9, but really around 5’5 maybe, dunked over 5’3 Spud Webb & then 6’11 Dwight Howard.. What’s the front of a Kia about 2-3 feet off the ground? 🤨 I think that made me dislike Blake Griffin at the time.. 😂
@@ivaneurope Just cuz many people think something doesn't mean there's evidence. Like how everyone was "sure" about Stern and the frozen envelope.

Edit 11/27: I definitely understand the replies about not mentioning other Clippers meltdowns in the past in specific playoff games. I was thinking more about Clippers playoff series as a whole where they were in firm control (i.e. a 2-game lead). The series I listed above were about being more than the cliche of “it’s only one game” that lead to their demise towards a playoff exit.

This was an amazing video! This was an amazing series!
The most underrated moment in NBA history.
it’s the Spurs so I think it’ll be underrated
I remember being in a bar for that game. I think the moment isn’t glorified more because it was the 1st round & the Clips were eliminated in the next round. Had it lead to something or if CP wasn’t still looking for a ring, it would prob be shown more. Although, we constantly see Dame’s 1st round clinching 3’s & they haven’t won either, so I dunno.. 🤷🏻♂️
It was the same day as the mayweather paqciou fight I remember it so clearly
& you can say it’s one of the most underrated moments, but THE most underrated moment in NBA history is a little much..
I’m a Knicks fan. I don’t have a dog in the fight & I don’t get to watch playoff games anymore, so I have to discuss other teams lol.
Most people kind of forgot about it when they just remember this Clippers team for what happened in the next round.

Great video.. You should do a deeper dive into Isiah Thomas last ditch effort to save the bad boys against the Knicks in game 5 of the 1992 nba playoffs, it was essentially the last playoff game of the Detroit bad boy Era, and Isiah went out on his sword the last few minutes of the game..
A lot of people forgot how insane cp3 was... at a point in time when he was the best pg in the league
Chris Paul was /is overrated. 0 Championships, 0 MVPs. He's definitey a good PG.

The only edit I would request in these Rewind videos is a a replay of the final shot so we can see it from a few vantage points. Pits it into a better perspective on the difficulty and impact.
I’ll never forget being at work and listening to this game on the radio because I was busy. Man.... that shot CRUSHED everyone in the kitchen.
Seriously guys, every other one of these Rewinds is about the Spurs losing. WTF?
Ray Allen’s dagger, Derek Fisher’s 0.4 second shot, this. It’s weird how many iconic clutch shots the Spurs have had hit against them.
@@Hotmanlion12 look at what you have to do to beat them! It sucks seeing them losing but at the same time it literally took miracles for them to lose.
I’ve watched about 15 beef & rewind vids since last night. Great channel, great content. Only 2 complaints.. 1. The deep rewinds do a great job building up to the moment. Then we finally get to the moment & we see a 5 second clip & the vids over lol. At least give us a minute! The malice in the Palace rewind showed 1 punch. How is the whole brawl not shown?! Day 2 of asking Secret Base to do a video digging up the most ridiculously impossible to happen but actually did, long odds big winning sports bets. ❤
One topic that you could definitely get a lot out of: Emma Meesseman's buzzer beater for Belgium against Spain in the 2018 Women's Basketball World Cup.
My arguments as to why it could be included:
1. International basketball plays slightly different rules. Both Belgium and Spain were guaranteed to advance, but Belgium could take first place in the group - and get a direct bye into the quarterfinals with an extra day of rest - if they beat Spain by eight points. When Meesseman made her shot, they were inbounding the ball with a seven-point lead and 1.2 seconds on the clock.
2. Belgium wouldn't have been in that situation in the first place if they hadn't missed numerous free throws, especially late in the game.
3. Emma Meesseman was born with only 50% hearing in both ears.
4. Belgium was making their first appearance in the Women's Basketball World Cup. They won bronze at EuroBasket Women 2017, which allowed them to get in for the tournament. If you had asked Belgium fans in 2015 if they'd be in the tournament, most would say absolutely not.
5. Spain was ranked second in the world at the time of the game.
6. Spain was hosting the tournament.
7. Many felt like Belgium tricked Spain with a perfect decoy - shooting guard Kim Mestdagh, whose sister was on the team and dad was coach, had been the hot hand with 25 points that day, and many thought she'd take the last shot. When you watch the footage, Kim Mestdagh is right under the basket at the start of the play. Instead, Belgium set up a perfect pick-and-roll, with Mestdagh setting the pick instead of getting the shot.
8. The Mestdagh sisters and Emma Meesseman are from a lesser-known Belgian city called Ypres, which was hit significantly hard during the First World War. Five separate battles were fought within the city. Many felt that Ypres never recovered from it.
I see you with that Season 1 music in the first couple of segments
I remember this game. This was hype as hell to dethrone the defending champions, but too bad we couldn’t finish off the Rockets the very next round
When Clara narrates you know it will be good
Nice vids!!
After Paul hit the shot the Spurs called their final timeout to draw up a play. As they were inbounding the buzzer mysteriously went off resulting in them showing their play without a timeout to draw up another one. The only tome I’ve seen that happen in an NBA game in crunch time.
I love your content, but could you please at some point release a Spurs-themed video that doesn't highlight hurtful memories for Spurs fans lol
