  • In the 1990s, The Gold Club in Atlanta was the place to be. A mix of Vegas meets Studio 54, The Gold Club provided its guests with bottle service and a plethora of beautiful, fully nude women to look at. In this episode of I Was There, Jacklyn “Diva” Cook recounts her wild and crazy time working at The Gold Club during its heyday in the 90s, making upwards of $5k an hour, until it all came to a screeching halt when the club was raided by the FBI.

Since Covid it’s never recovered. Clubs have stepped away from theatrical performing, and implemented prostitution. Wow, hearing this makes it seem so glamorous, so exciting and fun, and the fact that she was stated as the number one girl by the club owner, made 6 figures a year, upwards of 400k a year is a very high paying job. I don't care what anyone says, that's a damn good income where you can build any type of life you want especially in the 90s that kind of money was unheard of. Lucky lucky girl. She worked hard for it and it's commendable. Good for her.
Wow, this is an insane story, the fact Steve paid for all 17 of their lawyer fees, that man had a lot of money and used it to protect his people. Even if they had money of their own he paid for them because they worked for him. He paid 5 million, did 13 months in prison so that they could walk is truly commendable. Why did she lose her 1.2 million net worth? Is that what they took because of her charges? I don't get why she couldn't keep her own money.

also have to say that she dropped a jewel at the end, two actually, when she speaks on how she adjusted to such a drastic change of circumstances (change the way you live) and how she viewed her past (lucky to have lived it and grateful for the experience).
i moved to atlanta in ‘96, turned 21 in ‘97 (pretty sure it went highlander, cheetah, tattletails, backstreet)-and by virtue of my job-was a gold club regular in the VIP semi-private mezzanine seats across from all the gold rooms.
i went every night for about a year (except sundays when everyone went to the pony cuz all the other bars were closed). i was on someone else’s tab and the youngster of the group so i just drank free drinks and hit on the cocktail waitress (hey chasity) whom i later got a bartending job for, and had a good time.

Get home from school, turn on the TV and it's on Jerry Springer, Jenny Jones, a lot of the talk shows except for Oprah featured strippers. And they'd be in sparkly bikinis and perform. We were little kids watching it on regular network tv channels and our parents would've never guessed that nbc or any big network was showing that.
