  • On today's Continental Club Xtra we take a look at Julian Nagelsmann, recently sacked by Bayern Munich and now the favourite to succeed Graham Potter at Chelsea!
    If he takes the job what can we expect from him in the Premier League? Will his tactics suit the Chelsea squad put together under Todd Boehly's ownership? Are the problems he faced at Bayern something to be worried about? And if he isn't appointed, who would be a good alternative?

    I agree with Henry, I like Nagelsmann but Enrique would be the smarter choice given our situation. He would also command respect from a crop of players who've thrown several managers under the bus

    I believe that Julian Nagelsmann would be a great appointment for Chelsea and Im a Manchester United fan. The thing is Chelsea seem to be extremely inpatient and are signing to many players without selling the ones who don't have a future. For Nagelsmann to come there and be successful I think Chelsea would need to allow him to first allow him to sell whoever he feels doesn't fit his style of play no matter how long player has been on the playing squad. And then should be allowed to buy who will fit his style and philosophy. I think having Nkunku coming in will help him have someone he knows and then he would definitely need a striker that can be efficient because Chelsea don't have anyone who can regularly score. The main problem I see is Chelsea create and defend well but it all breaks down once a through ball is put or cross in.

    Honest question. Why would u feel sorry for potter? He’s been given multiple chances over the season. One of his main excuses at the start of his time was lack of players due to the injuries to players then after January window the excuse is he had too many players. Without Tuchel’s points at the start of the season potter would have been in a relegation scrap

    Of the available Managers, Nagelsmann is the best overall. I also really think that Nagaelsmann is the type of coach who can potentially keep "Tuchel Ball" going, be it with a significantly improved team. Nagelsmann can be the EXACT manager we need with the mix of our leadership as well as a long term core. Has been consistently managing for a while, was wanted by Madrid AND Bayern, as been in rebuilds more than once successfully.
    Enrique was a manager 8 years ago in club, and though very successful, we have to consider that he coached Pep's team but in it's final form - an y truly competent manager would do that. His SPain stint has been underwhelming (1 win in regulation type).
    Does Nagelsmann have cons? Yes, as do all of them - but he has the best upside

    • @r.i.psteez929
      @r.i.psteez929 Před rokem +2

      It’s very different tho when you only work with players a few times a year as opposed to working with them everyday. Like they said, Nagelsmann is great for Chelsea but Chelsea isn’t great for Nagelsmann. Spurs is the better proposition for him, Luis Enrique could definitely do something with this Chelsea side, especially when you have someone like Enzo who is in a similar mold to the old Spanish midfielders and there’s not many of those around anymore.

    • @mdn6554
      @mdn6554 Před rokem +1

      @@r.i.psteez929 Enrique hasn’t coached club football in 8 years If I’m not mistaken, and that was possibly the greatest club side to ever kick a ball - a team moulded by Pep, with the addition of Neymar in what clearly is now his prime years.
      Any Competent Manager would’ve done bits with that squad - added also that he didn’t introduce anything special, he just looked at what he had and said “yep, keep this going”.
      Nagelsmann has what it takes, age ain’t nothing but a number because Pep was 36/37 when he took charge at Barca, a young squad FULL of potential.
      We don’t have a messi or Iniesta etc, but we do have a collection of players who could be the core for years.
      Also, he wants this. If Luis comes in cool, but Nagelsmann would be a much better fit.

    • @r.i.psteez929
      @r.i.psteez929 Před rokem

      @@mdn6554 yea he hasn’t coached club football since 16/17 but he’s still a bit of unknown entity. At Barca he worked with what he had for the most part, same with Spain, and Chelsea have a lot of players on long contracts who the manager will be expected to work with… which is what Enrique would probably do. He also knows how to manage ego’s, Nagelsmann apparently doesn’t, that was his problem at Bayern.
      Either way it’ll be fun to see them both in the prem but if Nagelsmann goes to Chelsea then Enrique won’t go to Spurs. Nagelsmann should go to Spurs, get rid of kane and make that team his own. He’d love a player like Son.

  • @1981ledzep
    @1981ledzep Před rokem +1

    Well I would say Nagelsmann can do a better job than Potter. But he needs some time for it. He has to learn and develop his idea of football and his coaching style. He is already a great Manager, but he is not at the highest level yet. It depends on what you expect from him and what the board an the owners expect from him. What is the goal for the next season? What is the goal for the next years? At Bayern there is the pressure to win every the Bundesliga and more...This pressure and the very high goals of Bayern where to much for him yet.

      @ntutamokhatholane6215 Před rokem

      The new chelsea management are clear... They are willing to be patient for one to build his team and they showed that with Potter. But for a big club like Chelsea patience means finishing 4th, 5th or even 6th and show progression over time. Potter didn't show any signs of progression, so they were absolutely right to sack him now

    • @nicolaszan1845
      @nicolaszan1845 Před rokem

      I'm pretty sure the board and owners don't expect immediate results with Nagelsmann. They hired Potter and stuck by him for months even through the fires and critics because they felt he was a younger manager that could build a longer term project at Chelsea. I see no reason why they would switch up their objectives just because a new person is coming in.
      If Chelsea does better than they have done under Potter, which is saying very little, it will buy time for the club in the eyes of the fans for Nagelsmann to develop his plan for the club in the mid and long term.

    • @nicolaszan1845
      @nicolaszan1845 Před rokem

      Probably both. Enzo and Kante seem to be pretty good at getting the ball to the forwards, but the position of those forwards is often all over the place. That's a tactical problem.
      Even when they are in the right place though, they wouldn't score against a rainbow. Havertz flunks or loses the ball by being too slow, and Joao Felix is yet to adapt properly to the Premier League by the looks of it (if you are hopeful about his future development). That's a problem with the players not having good games consistently.

      While it is definitely true that female coaches would increase the manager pool massively, at the moment there is a _massive_ gap in skill in football between male and female teams. Managers of both sexes coaching teams of either sex likely would have to start in lower rated clubs and slowly, over time, work its way up to larger, more competitive clubs
