- Today Jay & I are building DIY Custom Laundry Room Cabinets for my future stackable washer & dryer!! It is so exciting to see my laundry room coming together just as I imagined it!
Hey there! My name is Abby and I recently bought a MAJOR fixer upper house. I am SO excited to work on fixing it up this old house and turning it into my dream home. I can't wait to take you on this journey with me! I am planning to DIY as much as I can and learn so much about home renovations along the way. I am starting out totally clueless so I am sure it will be a grand adventure! You know Abbey, if you go to a locally owned home appliance store instead of a big box store it is entirely possible to get an awesome deal on a scratch and dent washer and dryer. Since you will essentially be sliding them into a cubby, so to speak, who cares if they got a scratch or dent where you can't see it.
The same can also be said for the cubby that you'll be sliding your fridge into.
Even though they are scratch and dent the warranty is still good and it does not affect how well they run.
My own fridge has a dent and huge scratch on the side of it. It fits into a cubby exactly how you have your kitchen set up. I got 40% off on the fridge. It has been running great for the past 10 years and I can't see the defect since it's in the cubby.
I've bought appliances using this.
Nobody cares about scratch N dent.Just what it saves in wallet!!
Color is always fun, white is just there.

I can tell you from someone who built a house...you will never regret adding all the storage area's you have put in the house. They are looking fantastic and will be so useful in the future.
Wish I had done so much more in my house.

It's a laundry room. Paint it an easily washable high gloss white.

I just keep thinking about you wanting to put your ironing board on top of the washer/dryer space….that’s a lot of space, in my opinion, being wasted. You could use it for totes, spare toilet paper, paper towels, laundry detergent when it’s on sale….. maybe rethink it and put up some hooks or even specialized brackets made for ironing boards and irons, maybe on the side you are building??
Wow looking great. Have you thought about a pull-down or lift up ironing board that attaches to the wall maybe ?
The ironing board laying flat on top will catch lots of dust. A lot of dust collects in a laundry room.
Putting the ironing board onto over time will scuff up your paint. Could you hang on a wall, behind the door to the laundry room.
WOW is all I can say for the laundry room....Jay is such an asset to you Abby. You two have done a great job in the laundry room...God bless you both and keep you safe...

I was thinking the same thing storing the ironing board on the wall. Easier to get to and still out of the way. Plus they sell hooks that also store the iron as well...is that what you were referring to?
@@dianepereira1860 a Butler was commonly a mechanism that was attached to the wall. Usually stored flat then swung out to take hangers with shirts or trousers.
Could be used in a closet also for choosing tomorrow's outfit and making sure it was pressed, etc

I agree, hopefully once the Reno is complete, she and Jay will build the Master bed and bath AND delete the old sheds and build a carport and tractor barn 👍🏼👍🏼

Hey Abby….why not hang your ironing board on the end of your shelving unit you and Jay have just installed. I guarantee you will not put the ironing board up over the appliances on top of the shelves. Carol.

A washer and dryer can be pretty problematic. It can sometimes require room to maneuver. You may want to make that center board removable. As to staining the closet, it depends on where you live in the country. It used to be a tradition, now, not so much. Some locations want it while some don't.
Lots of little things being done. And I like the all white laundry room. 😊

Abby, I've been following you since the 1st walk thru. You and Jay are doing a great job. The transformation is stunning so far. I am so glad Jay showed you the proper way to use the table saw. Those things scare me. LOL My uncle, with 35 yrs of building cut off 3 of his fingers because he didn't use a push stick. Bravo Jay for having Abby use one. Can't wait to see how your adventure unfolds.

I liked to see more depth, using the angles, like maybe painting the shelving a slightly different color, like light grey or light beige. It won't take away from the size of the room but will give it an interesting contrast. Just a thought coming from an artist. Looking good guy and gal.❤

I love watching all of the many improvements you are adding. It looks great! I think "sand" type color for the W/D is an excellent choice by the way esp. if the woodwork will be white.
PG here, Wonderful. Each little piece just keeps coming together. I am also shocked by how quickly the built in are getting done. I can not wait to see the built in center pantry and closet! I did not think about stain in the main floor laundry room either. It would cause the bathroom and laundry room to look like they match. Staining the same color in the laundry room that you used on the shelves in the bathroom.

We fabricated a copper tray underneath the washing machine with a drain.

If your laundry room door swings in towards the outside wall, could you hang the ironing board behind the door? You have an outlet nearby to have a fold down ironing board. This will "hide" the board too. Keeping the tide look!!
HI! Long time watcher, first time commenter. :) Just wanted to say watching this whole process has been amazing and everything is coming together so nicely! Thanks for sharing your journey and Jay's expertise with us! I am a fan of stain especially the dark stain you are using in the bathroom. I think it will look beautiful whether painted white or the same stain as the bathroom. I get painting it white so that it blends in more with the wall. If you end up with white appliances, i think stain would look better as a contrast and if the appliances are silver/chrome or any other color then white would look better. I think you said you plan to stain the counter and will probably use baskets on the shelves and if so i think it all sounds good to tie in a little with the adjoining bathroom. Looking forward to seeing it all come together and applause to your ideas for the design of it all, the laundry, the long shelf in the bathroom, and the closet spaces! Looks and functions great!

From my own experience. I am handicapped and I had my washer and dryer elevated. The one thing I want to share is both machines vibrate and will make twice the noise if the space under them is hollow. They are heavy and need additional support underneath.

I purchased from Amazon an ironing board hanger organizer that has a shelf on top for the iron. It would fit nicely on the side of your beautiful washer/dryer closet, out of sight with easier access.

Yes the wash room should be painted white as you said they are somewhat a wall and it will be more cohesive. Where as the closet will be seen more often and contrast and look great.

I would go with white trim and wood work. It will make your house seem much brighter and bigger. Love what you have done so far. Keep up the good work.
Oh I would definitely stain, there are so many different colors to pick from and it lets you see the real beauty of the wood😍 painting can chip easily 😢

The dryer won't be bad, but the washer is quite a bit heavier.

The angle is perfict . Cause the way you had it the first time the sun light was good . An is that lumber your Dad made ?
The ironing board could be hung on the side of the washer/dryer cabinet, unless of course it would be in the way. I believe you had talked about a sink in the laundry room, so maybe that wouldn't work.

light plus seems like my clothes

Oooh my sweet girl...A Drill and a Dream is coming true! 🙏💞 It depends on how often you use an ironing board but a small one would fit perfectly above the machines and you could use the machines for a counter top. 🤷♀️🥰
I never iron any thing and haven't for years , I really think a top of the range washing machine treats clothes better ,and last longer, mine is 20 plus years and still going strong. Best wishes from England UK 🇬🇧
