Hey there! My name is Abby and I recently bought a MAJOR fixer upper house. I am SO excited to work on fixing it up this old house and turning it into my dream home. I can't wait to take you on this journey with me! I am planning to DIY as much as I can and learn so much about home renovations along the way. I am starting out totally clueless so I am sure it will be a grand adventure! My dad was a sheet rocker and he only had girls, so we girls learned everything about construction!! I loved it! But I never got to leave put screws in the side like you just did!! I have always wanted to!! I am 70 years old still fixing thing and tilling my son the tricks of the trade!!!🤪

Abby, your right the bedroom cabinets should be painted with satin or semi-gloss, I used satin on mine , semi-gloss has a little more shine.
Abby...you will be glad you used a semi-gloss trim paint on the wood. It looks rally nice and it is so much easier to clean.❤
This house has so much storage now!
You and Jay have come up with solutions for so much storage space. You have apparently thought of using every cubby hole for storage, and we all need storage space. The doors and drawers look beautiful. Great job, Jay and Abby!

Very nice. Small tip. If you would not have paint all over you, paint from the back out or from the middle out, depending on the application. That way you aren't dragging your hair and your sleeves across wet paint.
You gotta paint over the primer. It will chalk overtime and cover whatever you put in there with white dust. Primer is not meant to left uncovered by paint.

You mentioned only priming the interior of the cubbies. I think you should paint the interiors also, would give a more finished look, hold up better over time. You've been detailed in all other areas, no reason to cut corners now. You already have the paint. All the cubbies, drawers for the built ins, look really good, it's coming together nicely.
Saw Horses - I know Jay said he doesn't want them, but sure wouldn't hurt for you to have some, instead of working on the floor!

I have heard that the 🤔paint in the cubbies helps seal the sheet rock for moisture etc

I was surprised that you hadn’t sanded and primed the cubby before putting in the frames and doors… it would have been easier to reach and do… but it’s all looking great! You are going to love all that storage space!

Looks sooooo good! I am taking notes on you! My preference would be to use a satin sheen paint on the cabinets. And I think I'd just go ahead and paint the inside of the cubby as well even though it is more work. Just makes it look and feel finished. Jay can come to my house any time. Since he's not here, I often struggle through trying to figure things out in our own old house. You are learning so much!

I like going out with a small artist brush and an equally small bottle of weed poison and tip poisoning the weeds. It works well.

Hi Abby, the built-in storage cabinets Jay & you but in looks great. You're very strong carrying up the stairs with Jay. Funny you fit inside the middle cabinet as you painted it. Lol !! 😂
You could put some wallpaper in the cuby, you said you may use for suitcases. Just a pop of fun when you open the doors. Just because it's storage, it can still be fun.
The built-ins are perfect. Here's a cost saving pro tip. Wallpaper inside the closets and the bottom of the drawers. I'm a fan of staining these units with a nice 3 coat satin varnish finish. Perfection! All the best Abby and Jay!!

Great storage solutions for slanted walls. Pocket hole building is another skill you will never regret learning. I suggest you caulk around the inside base of middle closet to prevent bugs and possible mice. (You do live in the countryside now.)
