- Today I am learning a new skill!! It is my first time tiling, which is both exciting & terrifying!! Jay is teaching me and together we are putting a backsplash of tile around my tub. It looks so amazing!!!
Hey there! My name is Abby and I recently bought a MAJOR fixer upper house. I am SO excited to work on fixing it up this old house and turning it into my dream home. I can't wait to take you on this journey with me! I am planning to DIY as much as I can and learn so much about home renovations along the way. When we think back at the first time you gave us a tour of your future home, I only saw the mess and hard work you that was before you. It was difficult to envision your dream . You never gave up and had a hand in everything. All that messy dusty clean up and the trips up and down the stairs…. Your dream has become ours I am an 80 year old grandma and am so proud of you and I am sure your parents are too.

You have had a lot of first times. After you finish the house you will be able to fix things for yourself. We never stop learning.
I am sure Jay knows this but when you do the caulking fill the tub with water. It weighs it down. Otherwise it will pull it down if it was empty when you did it
Yes, and remove any grout before you caulk. I didn’t know this tidbit but saw a tiler mention that you want the space between the tub and tile free of grout and then you can caulk.
Yes, fill the tube halfway that way the sag is in the middle, ah ha, I don't know..., caulk is flexible. (Always something to think about.)

You keep having the best outcomes at “beginners luck”. I’m not convinced you don’t know what you are doing because you knock every task out of the ballpark and the results are always gorgeous. Ms Abby, you and Jay are a very impressive team.
Since you didn't go down the sides of the tub , I would suggest the waterproof baseboards. Also, you can whiten your tub jets by painting hair bleach on them and putting in a ziploc bag and put in the sun. Then rinse off.

I just started watching the video and am really wishing you had put a spacer between the tub and the bottom row of tile. Yes, this will be caulked, but there should be a slight expansion gap that the caulk goes into. Your thinset looked a little dry and thin layer. I hope your tile stays up. I've loved all your videos and your journey. The house is looking great.

I know you know but don’t forget to seal the grout. It will make your life so much easier for cleaning.
Ask Jay if you need to calk around the tile meeting the tub and along the top and sides.

GREAT TILING JOB, ABBY. Master of all trades. You could flip houses and make money that way. My son and daughter-in-law do it and it's pretty profitable for them.

Just as a tip they all say when you're wiping your washing You're grote off that You should always go on in a circular motion And that way you'll never white more out of any one of your growth lines, making them tender and wider.

That’s nice. The difficult part of tiling is cutting the tiles. Otherwise, it’s rather easy with the right materials.
Wow, the tile looks sooo good and went on pretty fast! Your bathroom is gonna be awesome! Jay is such a confidence booster. I mean the tiling didn't seem too hard, but you had him behind you with all the knowledge and the right tools for the job. I could imagine myself doing this too if I had someone like Jay behind me. He is the best. Maybe shouldn't say, but that green T-shirt you wore the 1st day bothered my OCD brain with the apostrophe S in "sponsors" , lol.

I was taught every step in tiling is important but it can all be for naught if grouting isn't done correctly. Gotta keep water from getting behind a tile. Looks like you did a first rate job. 👍👍👍

Abby, You did an amazing job on that tiling, i cannot wait to see the floor and the backsplash around your sink done to match. Have you thought about the ledge on the wall. You know the floor tiles can be a great option if you have the same tiles or are you going to do it in the dark wood. It maybe too much dark wood in such a small space but the floor tile is a great option and its easy cleaning too for plants if you put plants on the ledge water spills can make a mess of wood if the wood is not sealed properly. Just throwing it out there for you to consider. the bathroom is going to look totally amazing. Well done Abby! You have taken to this destruction and construction like a duck to water. You are Rocking it!

Wow, that really turned out nice and you guys were pretty fast. Looks awesome, and that's what I like about tile or stone work, it gets character if it's not perfect, if there is a tile that sets a little further out or little imperfections can add to the character and beauty. Like an old Mexican restaurant the stone work is character filled because of flaws, a perfect job is nice but there is something about the character of imperfection with stone that looks so inviting. Very very nice job, I like how you jump into a project and let the chips fall where they may, and adjust as you go, this is a very good trait of yours.
