- Today I learned that tiling a floor is SO messy!!! Jay & I are tiling the downstairs bathroom and the results are amazing!!
Hey there! My name is Abby and I recently bought a MAJOR fixer upper house. I am SO excited to work on fixing it up this old house and turning it into my dream home. I can't wait to take you on this journey with me! I am planning to DIY as much as I can and learn so much about home renovations along the way. Amazing how many trades that you have accomplished during this remodel. Jay is a great man with lots of patience to teach these shills. Everything looks so easy watching you both, but being married to a contractor for 53+ years I know how hard this work is. I've never heard one complaint from you! Yes, I have heard that sealing the grout periodically will keep it nice. I love the white grout! Sealing it will keep it looking fresh, new and beautiful.

I’ve had white grout in three bathrooms for 34 years and it still looks great. Clorox foam is what I use and definitely seal the grout.
I don’t recommend tile with any color grout for a kitchen, go with a solid surface. Looking good!😮
Agreed. The grout in my kitchen floor tile is disgusting and bleach doesn’t work, boiling water and brushes don’t work. Solid surface all the way in kitchens!

Hi Abby, try using a piece of wood to remove the spacers. The hammer will scratch your beautiful tiles. Love the colors you picked. You may want to use a matching small tile around the sink, it will protect the walls.
FYI you are not supposed to be walking on your tile when laying it down ,you are supposed to work your way out of the room.❤ looks good

The style of laying is never an issue when learning on your first project . Tradies would lay them so the lines follow right through both ways love
Is there anything Jay can't teach you to do? My gosh, he's amazing. And so are you for learning so many skills during this journey. I hate that term, but it applies here. 😄

You are probably a better housecleaner than me. I wished I had used a darker grout in my kitchen years ago instead of the white. i do realize I can regrout but wonder about the cost. At 77 years old I sure wouldn’t do what you are doing. You should be very pleased with the fine job you are doing.
They have grout stain . My daughter used it on her tile and it has held up great. You can get it at Home Depot and Lowes.
Abby, your floor looks amazing. Jay did a great job cutting the tile, especially around where the toilet goes. Even though it's not a pleasant job to do, which I know first hand, it looks great in the end.
Look at all that you have learned. As things come up while living there you will have the skills required to accomplish the tasks. Not only saving you money, but also adding to the long lists of things you can do for yourself. Congratulations to you. Kudos to Jay as well.

Great job Abby! Very easy to keep clean. Just seal the grout very well & reseal every year. Mop often to keep dirt out of the grout. 😊❤😊

I was a nervous wreck when you used that hammer! Be sure and seal your grout. It gets dirty so easy. Looking great!

You did a great job Abby and Jay! I find wearing disposable gloves makes for a more enjoyable tiling experience. Also, a toothbrush is your best friend for cleaning the thinset out of the grout lines as you are cleaning off the tiles.

Yeah.. it's starting to look like a bathroom now Abby!! Tile patterns you chose looks great. Feel for you, it was in the 90's here in Ohio last week. Sure it wasn't Fun working in the Heat then. Tube faucet & handle bar are a nice touch to the bathtub. You did excellent work on the floor, you must be proud. 😊

Please make sure you seal all your grout. Even if it's the type of grout that says there's sealer in it you still need to seal it because mine look dirty after a while.❤❤
You are going to get "tile shock" in the winter, tiles are very cold on your feet in winter 🥶 but they look very nice. Best wishes from England UK 🇬🇧

You should wait 15-30 min. before wiping down. then wait another 24 hours after first wipe. to let it cure. It does look so nice.
By the time you're finished with your home, you'll be able to get your General Contractors license. Your skillset is becoming professional.
Well done, Miss Abby!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 You and Jay have done such a wonderful job together creating your showcase bathroom!!! Definitely seal the grout. Plus, there are little grout pens you can purchase that are basically paint to freshen up the grout lines if they get a bit dingy looking, down the road.
Our tiles are put directly on the cement floor. So we simply empty a bucket of water with soap and scrub them with a hard scrubbing broom, and later, we wipe the water off with a "rodo" (don't know the name in English). In Brasil, tiles are the most common flooring. Several times, the whole house floors are tiles plus tiles on the walls in kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry rooms.

The tiles look good with the white grout. Makes it pop! I thought you did an excellent job. Main thing is using spacers, which you did. You should be proud of your work. Keep it up. Thank you for your videos.

Don't worry about the grout and upkeep. I use household latex paint on mine and it works just find. Keeps my grout looking brand new throughout my house, even shower.

That floor is really pretty. Make sure you seal the grout as often as they tell you to. It is hard to clean once it gets dirty.
Abby….you’re just a great woman. Seeing you work that hard just says you want it and I can appreciate that so much. Plus a lady that’ll get her pretty feet dirty and never stop is a winner in my book! Workin barefoot should be common practice, the flipflops just tangle ya up. Hope y’all have a great week!
Awesome job Abby! You are fearless! We are in the planning for redoing our small master bathroom. I’ve noticed the showers in some high end hotels we have stayed in for the showers, they use porcelain slabs that cover wall in one piece, because I fight with cleaning grout in shower areas…. Anyone on here have this! Would love an opinion! - watching from Lake Wales, Florida

It looks so lovely Abby, well done! Love the white grout too, and you're already looking into sealing it so definitely do that. It's not so much soap scum as foot dirt that makes your floor tiles grubby, like when you come in the back door to wash your hands. Sealing will make it a breeze to mop and keep clean!

I had ceramic tile in my old apartment and it never had to be sealed. I'm not sure if it was sealed to begin with.

You have done a great job Abby! What really amazes me the the relationship you worked out with Jay. He is SUCH a patient and expert teacher. You were incredibly lucky to get him. I, for one, would be interested in knowing the back story on how you were able to find him and talk him into helping you. It is absolutely NONE of my business, but i would be curious as to what the pay arrangement is -- by the hour, by the project, etc, etc. Anyway, my compliments on your progress!

I am so proud of you Abby, you have attacked every task and it has come out stunning. Jay is a really hard working guy, master carpenter handy man to have around. he has been a tower of strength and such a great teacher too. Maybe he should start his own you tube Channel. How about it Jay? Everything you have done in this house together is amazing and i am so so happy for you both. you turned this house upside down ripped out walls ceilings and shook it to its foundations literally and she is coming to the best part and soon this adventure will be over before you know it. i cannot believe its two years since you started this adventure and you have gained new skills to go along with it. so very proud of you Abby i think your Mum and Dad would agree. Some people do not know what they are looking for in a house but you do and Jay is right there in your head making it happen brilliant! You two make a great team. What is next for Abby and Jay when the house is all finished. i know there is landscaping to do but that is a labour of love trial and error. and it is a lifetime of work. You guys are an amazing team.

Great job Abbey 👌 we started renovating our house almost 16 years ago, our main bathroom is tiled, super easy to look after, just seal it and you'll be fine, I use a steam mob works perfect... One thing I would have suggested is under flooring heating it makes walking on the tiles in winter so much nicer... the cats love it!! 😄 So do the humans by the way 😉
And I'd personally put a white toilet in... Ours are white and they look fine. Any other coloured toilet to me would look not clean etc. White doesn't date.
