Any one is allowed to criticize Emma Chamberlain, and they are free to spend as much of their time as they please doing so. Emma makes her money as a public figure. One possible consequence of making your money as a public figure is backlash from the general public. No one is guaranteed constant praise and adoration in this life. I think this whole notion of "Emma Chamberlain isn't college educated so i'm smarter and better" comes from people feeling insecure and Emma not being relatable anymore. She went from relatable CZcamsr to a large public figure who is now at the Met Gala and part of the eliteness of Hollywood, so she's lost that relatability factor. So, people have been projecting their insecurities by feeling better than her because of her not going to college.
It's all so pathetic, Emma has made herself a career where she can be financially free and focus on things she's passionate about, bullying her because her ideas aren't "novel" is so stupid because humans have been around for so long and thinking about life for so long there are almost no novel thoughts anymore.

Emma’s charm is that she’s humble and relatable. Her podcast is there to just be like having a chat with a friend. I find it comforting. And she’s also expressed that she might want to go to college in future if she finds there is something she’s interested enough in to study for three years, which I think is totally fair enough and makes more sense than committing to being in severe debt at 18 to study something you felt forced into studying. Emma’s a breath of fresh air, and her podcast doesn’t need to be erudite or groundbreaking to be enjoyable or thought-provoking.

The "go to college" insult is so disgusting. It doesn't matter if they are claiming to not be classist - their actions are having negative consequences on those who didn't go to college. Unfortunately, a large portion of those who don't go to college are poor folks, thus, the Emma shamers are classist (and privileged). What they don't understand is that this kind of talk leads people to think poorly of themselves and to genuinely think that they are less smart if they don't attend University. A degree means nothing if you can't hold a shred of empathy for another person.

I’m in my 30’s with 3 degrees (including a Masters) and the things you showed Emma talking about in her podcast are things I thought about in my 20’s completely outside of higher education. Since people seem to be belittling her philosophical musings, I think it’s important to note that the majority of university/college courses are more practical rather than theoretical (unless your focus is specifically targeting the latter - such as a philosophy major). Not to shade education that is theoretical in nature, but I’ve found that classes that focus on the practical are far more helpful in the long run (the class you mentioned was a good example; for another example - I took a Conflict Resolution class taught by someone who fought to end Apartheid in South Africa and have used methods from that class for almost a decade now). Education is helpful in different ways for different people, and is not always necessary. More importantly, anyone can have philosophical thoughts and it should always be encouraged to be curious, to think critically, and to question your own beliefs. That’s how we grow.

I am privileged enough to be able to pay the tution fee and did well enough in the exam to get into top uni in my country. But I see a lot of people shaming the lower ranking uni and said that a bachelor degree from such universities (let call them X) will be nothing but a plain blank a4 😀 I’m just furious. The audacity to assume such thing. There’s no guarantee even if I graduated from my uni now I could be more successful than people graduated from X uni 10 years from now. I mean I know the biggest thing you get out of a college/ university is knowledge, being independent (live alone). But there’s still so much to learn and to grow. I was taught to respect everyone’s differences and uniqueness unless it’s illegal and unethical to do so. Internet makes people closer but somehow more cruel and judgmental.

Higher ranking equal higher tution fee in my country. The average wage of blue collar workers is about $300 monthly here and tution fee is about $2.3k/a year. That’s why a lot of smart young people who did well in school still choose not to go to college. Their families can’t afford it. I feel really blessed because my parents can financially support my tution fee but I also work part time for living expenses. It’s crazy expensive. A waitress is paid around 80 cents/hour and you would need $250/a month for living expenses 😂 I’m lucky I can tutor at $15/hour. And people keeps asking why young people don’t go to college. Sometimes they don’t want to and sometimes they can’t literally.

As a young person in college:
People saying that is cruel, because of the implications of people who don’t have the opportunity to afford a college degree.
Being from the US, college specifically is very expensive and puts a lot of students in debt. I think it’s a very close minded view to say someone is stupid just because they couldn’t afford college.
It puts a gross and bitter taste into my mouth when people say shit like that. And to people in Gen Z saying that: educate yourselves and be more empathetic.
Ignorant comments won’t help the larger issue: people who hardly have the resources for food, let alone an education.

The rising number of degree holders makes my own degree feel worth less and it’s god damn hard to find a job now bc of it. Trades make the world go round, please, we need more people in most blue collar areas. Media and art doesn't need to justify its existence with a deep or full intellectual meaning, and Emma doesn't need to express the most revolutionary thoughts to have her work be valid, but I just personally see this stuff and all I can think is "Sometimes introspection should remain introspection"

I think people forget that it's okay to pursue your dreams and still go even just a community college as a back-up for if your career isn't jumpstarting yet.

@Ks-101 You have to keep in mind that the videos we see here are hand selected by Cooper and are the ones that either he saw first or the ones that he felt best showcased his issues with the topic (it's probably a mixture of both). The videos that came up on my fyp about Emma that also mentioned her going to college, all specified that it wasn't because they thought she was dumb or anything, but because the college environment would be a really good place for her to have these conversations and actually expand upon her thoughts rather than her just talking alone to an audience via podcast. I'm one of the people who do think that she should pursue higher education, she clearly has an active/curious mind and has all the means to go to school. Saying that someone should go to school so that they can develop their thoughts doesn't mean that that person is currently unintelligent by any means, if anything people are pointing out her intelligence by saying that she would thrive in higher education. It really isn't intended as an insult to say that someone who is coming across as though they are seeking deeper conversations and understandings should go to school because that's the exact place that fosters that.

You know you are saving so much money because the Universities don't actually help grads find appropriate jobs anymore like they might've back in the 80's. It takes a smart person to realize Universities are basically a extremely wealthy corporation who wants your money. The most knowledge-gaining school experience I had was community college, getting that associates degree. Students and experts start to get too much education, and their minds start to close up.

It’s the fact that people think she needs to go to college so people can challenge her ideas.. I promise you, college is not the place for that. Go to a peer group meeting or something 💀

I think the sentiment “to go to college” to make her podcast better is meant more for her thoughts to be challenged and interact with her peers to know what she could add to the conversation - it’s not necessarily about her intelligence. She’s in an echo chamber of her own brain. Her podcast adds nothing but the general knowledge of a topic topic, but presenting it as deeper. Before it sounded like a sleepover with a bestie, and now it sounds like you’re talking to your out of touch friend who you get coffee with every so often

@strippermilk360 the sentiment shouldn't be to "go to college" rather it should be to explore more things and talk to other people to gather different opinions. but even if her podcast is just solely her thoughts and nothing else... so what? it should not matter this much to have so many people making tiktoks over it. if someone doesn't like her content or doesn't have any genuine advice to give, then they should just move on. being rude and mean but disguising it as "being helpful", like most of them are doing, is gross.

I love these Film Cooper's videos, they make me laugh so much and feel like I'm at a comedians show. I honestly feel like if someone were to take all Film Cooper's funny clips together we'd have a movie.

You make ads so entertaining and tolerable. Raid should be grateful.

I don't even see the point, honestly. Like yeah, it can be annoying, but if you don’t agree with her, don't watch her podcast. Do something else with your time. People just love to hate lmao.

Ya seriously. And if these people have all this time to hate on Emma, then they should really be using that time to call out other social media influencers that are genuinely doing bad things. I'm not even a fan of Emma, nor was I ever, but this whole "drama" just seems so stupid. And truly a waste of time.

I love how much of your commentary is DEFENDING creators' space to be expressive and creative without justifying themselves with some sort of "purpose". A lot of times content feels inaccessible but you consistently encourage people to create for the sake of creating and the effect that has, to be someone who created something. It's so good! Thank you

She’s 22?! I had no idea. I’m 36. Been there done that. She’s doing exactly what she’s supposed to be doing. She’s growing.

Most of the time the most educational, thoughtful, and insightful people are people that have lived a long and challenging life. I worked in the restaurant industry and I’ve met people who have been through some of the most challenging situations and came out with a smile on their faces. College so far hasnt taught me any of that apart from a select few professors.

as someone who recently graduated from a very good university, i’ve constantly had to address my internal elitism. just bc someone who didn’t go to college doesn’t have the same rhetoric or vocabulary to describe concepts you’re familiar with doesn’t mean they’re dumb. i can hold normal and complex conversations with people who are “less educated” than i am bc i’m not a pretentious asshole. especially when it comes to social issues, why do some feel the need to gatekeep certain terminology or ideas? is it bc you don’t want to waste time explaining those concepts? or is it bc having to explain those concepts forces you to address that you don’t really understand that hashtag in your instagram bio as much as you’d like others to believe 🤷🏾‍♀️
