  • The Toyota Yaris has had a facelift and I got to drive the GR Sport HEV. The Yaris GR Sport has the sporty styling queues of the GR Yaris but has a hybrid drivetrain. What is new and how does it drive ?

I have seen so many people review this car and moan its not fast enough or does not handle like a hot hatch and this is the first one I have seen that is actually reviewing the car for what its aimed at. You seem to have realised that its not a sports car but a nippy car for round town that is fun to drive when on the open road. Nice review and nice to see you seem to have grasped the market it is aimed at.

Looks good. As with other manufacturers I wish the higher end models would be available with smaller wheel options. Take the new C-HR for example. Want the GR version of that and you have to have the 20" wheels. The wheels on that Yaris seem a bit too big too. Very nice but even if the ride is okay, smaller wheels are preferred by some people.

Problem is when you do that your greatly limiting your tyre options as there's a lot of tyres that don't get made for smaller cars

    • @user-xu5vl5th9n
      @user-xu5vl5th9n Před 2 měsíci

@@charlesmcwilliam8727 There are no options now, that's the point. The only option is tyres that look like little more than black paint on the absurdly over-sized wheels designed to ride like crap and trash the wheels on UK roads (that are like a moonscape). The only "option" if people don't want that is a larger vehicle like a RAV4.

II think you are pretty much spot on with your report. I have one and would agree with what you have said, although it can be a little too stiff and “crashy” at times for our roads in this country. Having previously owned a GR Yaris, it could easily be considered as a warm version of the GR Yaris and for a lot of people, a more sensible choice. The mpg of the car is quite exceptional, usually 60mpg plus most of the time, even with some brisk driving! It is equally at home on the motorway or city driving. It certainly surprised me.

The EV range is literally leagues better in this; my car literally couldn't travel ONE league before the ICE had to start up. I'd like to see a 3 door version of this, but say having a 150 - 170 bhp none turbo version of the 1600, 3 cylinder. For some the GR Yaris is a little wild so maybe a detuned version would sell very well 🤔

Hello Pete. Can you compare it with a Suzuki Swift Sport or didn't you drive a Swift Sport yet?
Last weekend i did a short drive in a Swift Sport, a version with 140HP, no Hybrid. The road holding was fantastic, even much better than my Mini F56 JCW Y2015 with DDC suspension from Mini.
But the Swift i drove has KW V3 suspension and Michelin Cup2 tyres .
    Maybe not honest to compare....
On a B road the Swift that i drove was a lot of fun, i think you don't need more.
Mini call their cars a go-kart, my R53 GP that i had was but the F56 is much less go-kart as the R53 or a Swift Sport.

They should have made it -150bhp+ - 130hp isn’t enough. It looks pretty smart though. It’s a bit like VW and their ‘R-Line’ range - it’s a bit daft really given the Passat R-Line for instance mostly only came with the same awful hairdryer 1.5 tsi engine (150bhp) used in basically every bloody VW from the Golf upwards. All show, no go. I drove one and given the weight of the car it was painful. This little Yaris may be lighter but still, a little more oomph would at least make it a bit more fun surely - excellent review though thank you

I really don`t get why manufacturers of smaller cars have almost all gone to 5 door only? it may just be the angle of your camera but to me it looks as if the B pillar is very much hindering your view to your right, something that with a 3 door car would be greatly improved by bigger front doors, perhaps they should have based it on the 3 door GR shell??

I like the exterior styling of these but If that screen is pointing the wrong way that would be a deal breaker for me. How annoying.

I don't think it's a good looking car but how you say it's reasonable value at nearly £30000 for a small city car is beyond me. I think you need a reality check though I appreciate that this is your livelyhood and you need the support of the manufacturers. Haveing driven e- CVT cars I can say it would drive me insane listening to the crazy revving each time you put your foot down.

I don’t dictate the market. It am comparing with other cars out there. It is a crazy world we live in but £22-29k is about the range for this type and quality of car. I don’t ’support the manufacturers’ I say it as I see it. Look back at my videos on eCVT and you will see I’m not a huge fan of the noise but appreciate the good job it does.

One word INFLATION.your money as been devalued substantially over the last few years.Toyota offer better value than most manufacturers given their warranty.

Here's the problem, why would you buy the top of the line sport GR when for a couple of $k more you can get the full fat GR Yaris? Because the GR Yaris is not going to suit everyone, it is a little bit compromised in terms of comfort, NVH etc. Some people are not going to want a car with the unsubtle nature or rough edges of the GR Yaris and the huge difference in power is not going to be so important. I agree with PP, it would be a great city car with a little bit of cred shadow from it's homologated brother

I fit my bicycle in a smart for two with one wheel off. I'm sure you can fit your bike in a Yaris without taking both of them.

What! You can jump into a year old 3 Series for that. We need more CZcamsrs to call out manufacturers in their reviews of these cars as too expensive. £29k for a sporty Yaris is definitely not ok.

The car charges the battery from the engine and regen brakes as you go along 👍
