Proper honest classic. The kind of car to make you buy a lockup in north Wales, and eat nothing but mung beans. You could start a new youtube channel, call it "MainBearing" or something?
Yeah… and instead of being tolerant I’ll just block everyone who disagrees with me and host a women’s day special just for men 😂
@@GeoffBuysCars Love it Geoff, I'll be your first subscriber!
You could call it 'Grind My Gears' 😁
Life was a much simpler time when that car was new. Thanks for sharing
That chrome exhaust trim will give you at least an extra 20hp. 😁
I had one of the most exiting (terrifying) journeys as a teenager back in 1967 being driven from Perth to Pitlochry in one of these Renaults prior to the up grading of the A9 road! -- 28 miles in 20 minutes as part of a bet by the garage staff! That motor was as good as a Porsche at handling the bends. Great respect for them!
Judging by that flat battery, you would appear to have a knackered alternator/ dynamo.....definitely worth testing that
I had an early 70's Renault 6, it had a dynamo, might be able to replace the brushes (I think they were called). To aid charging.
I once bought a car that turned out not to be charging, it broke down at the filling station on the way home (another problem). The AA man spotted the charging problem, said it would be the dynamo and swore it wasn’t the regulator box… turned out it _was_ the regulator! Back then (2004) you could still get them brand new from Lucas.
This was my first car in 1969, a hand-me-down from my dad I had my very first driving lesson with him - a lesson lasting less than 30 seconds and cosmetically reshaping the front end😂 Sorry dad.
No doubt about it, these classic cars bring smiles all round, nothing beats it🙂
Just checked my 17 yr old 4x4 is ULEZ compliant yet other cars which are newer are non compliant don’t make sense, cracking car Jeff 👍
She's rolled over and survived, what more can i say? ❤
Nice video Geoff, entertaining as ever. One thing I like about your channel is that the cars that you aquire are never anything mainstream or obvious
A Renault 10 so fast it deserves a Racing Carpet 🏁😂 love it Geoff and love the whole channel
Your young fella is a bloody legend he was so happy with his brief case.
Brilliant idea...Racing Carpet! Kids are brilliant for ideas!
That creativity is priceless
They had fantastic roadholding, especially when tweaked a bit. Many happy memories of amazing grip on the switchback roads of France's hilly regions around 1970.
I can remember going with my Dad, back in the 60's to see the model Renault made before this one, called the Renault Dauphine. He never puchased the Renault. went for a Morris Minor in Trafalgar Blue. In the 60's if you were British, you never bought foreign cars !!
Similar, my dad was keen on a Simca but bought an Austin 1300
Yes, I remember when I went to university in 1967 the vicar of our village exhorted me not to be tempted by foreign cars. Buy British to support our own economy and our famous, once world-leading manufacturing industries. All the adults felt exactly the same way.
And what was wrong with that? And now? Well, we can't, because [partly because we didn't bother doing it then] there's very little of that industry left now.
just about remember these from tbe 70s as we grew up on a council estate.
looks like an old Simca too
That is very nice - good purchase 😎
A standard upgrade in SA was to fit a Smiths rev-counter in the round ventilation flap to the right of the steering wheel.
The overflow bottle 😂 I remember working with those 😂😂😂😂❤
Reminds me of a Mini my Mum had. Started by a button in the floor and looked as luxurious inside as that.
Carpet should be that road/town pattern they have for kids (road map carpet) though it might be a bit thick to bend with floor. Love the wheels.
Your little boy's ace!
That Renault 10 looks beautiful
Your wheel on it looks great
A rack with surfboards on would look great Geoff, but so would a rag top considering that the roof is damaged. That roof could be knocked out and repaired still i reckon though. Cool car either way 😊
Nice hat Geoff. I have a pair of sunglasses made out of old drum cymbals. Some upcycled stuff is class.
Supercharge it Geoff, then hillclimb it, only cut the roof if it'll be a full webasco 👍
happy with a Free Brief Case, what a good Lad 👍
Absolutely love that Renault! Would love that bad boy
We like this , if you put 4x spots on , the motor will stop😁
I had this saved on my eBay! Was looking to buy it as it was from South Africa and different. Btw CFM on the tax disc, the car was registered in Somerset west
Got several of them old glass expansion bottles including the one under bonnet of my 84 talbot alpine 😂👍✌️
I think you should keep it and do it up Geoff..Gud Vid..
Geoff, just a thought here. Maybe a good Paintless dent repair person could massage the bad spots out of the roof. I had an F-150 Lightning that was could in a hail storm, and it was perfect when they finished. Good looking classic Renault, and definitely a rare find. Looking forward to your progress on the little car. BTW, I have a 1967 Chevrolet Camaro that has the original hub brakes without power assist. They will, what we in the states call "hang up" (basically the brake shoes dont move smoothly or evenly), causing the car to pull to the right or left. They will begin to operate smoothly after driving, and stopping in a few miles with my car. Worst case scenario yours might need new brake shoes, hub resurfacing, and new brake hardware. Usually that doesn't cost lot of money, but I'm not familiar with the prices of Renault parts. And while you're at it a new brake master cylinder, and brake fluid would be a good idea. Going forward it quite fun, but stopping is very important. 😃
Never seen a cool Renault... till now!
Looks like a tasty upgraded steering wheel already on it. Might be an R8 gordini one? I wouldn't cut any holes in the roof either. With the flat floor and no transmission tunnel they need all the roof strength they can get.
Glad to see the briefcase has found itself a new owner 😅💼
Gonna turn up at school like one of the Kray brothers wanting to see the maths teacher about an interest problem.... 🧮 💰 💼 😮
Cracking looking motor that Geof what a find 👍🏻 i'd bin that horrible shrek ear mirror & find some nice shiny chrome ones
I love that car! A blast from the past.
Lovin the ten..it's awesome
I like that white sunbeam,i miss my jellybaby !
Awesome mate
Love it, another rare and unusual saloon. I have a Wartburg 1.3 lowered on banded steels #mickhanic garage
Dear Geoff, that glass jar your mat picks up at the start of the video is the expansion tank for the radiator. A very common feature in the Renault and Gordinis from the 60s. Goes on the back of the car near the motor and is likely to be held up by a double wire bracing, thigten up by a wing nut/screw diagonally placed across the centre axis. You should be able to find two "slots" fir the wires positioned at the shoulder of this bottle. Then there goes another mettalic belt going around near the bottom of the bottle to help securing it in place. These brackets should be positioned somewhere in the engine bay, very likely on the side of the radiator's expansion spigot. Have a look up and tell me if you found it, please! 😊
I'll bet, each time you put the spot lights on, it stalls. 🤐 Joking aside, I do love the varying topics.
If I remember correctly the front seats go quite far forward and tilt back low to make a nice mattress. stealth camper in the making.
My first car was a Renault 5 I think it was an 86 plate and it was a wild ride, best part was when I went to parties I was never the designated driver because they were to scared to go in my lovely dangerous car.
No servo on the brakes, but they are discs all round. I remember having to change the master cylinder on mine, it was a fiddly job as it was under the car, approximately below the driver's seat I think.
Get yaself a Haines manual 😂 remember those ? 😂 that's nearly as old as me Geoff 😂 😢
Bring back memories i had a reno 10 in the early 1970
Find a new old stock Hollandia folding power sunroof, and I’ll install it for you for free next year when we move to the UK 😃🤣
It would make for a very interesting first job there 👌
Super cool classic!!
Its a pity about the roof of your Renault 10 but the other issues can be sorted and checker board carpet very nice find what else can be found in your friends workshop if it fits put it on
Spoke to some old dear this evening who 'was courting' with her boyfriend in a new one of these in 1970 - it did 100,000 miles, which I thought was pretty good going for a car of the time.
Cracking car, you can see the similarities to a Skoda Estelle, or 120 etc
very nice car
Looks like a decent basis for a cheap runner. Don't go mad and start by maintaining what you have. Even forgotten things like lubricate teh distributor weights and springs, and back flush the radiator as a priority.
I’m with your lad, a checkerboard carpet would be mint 😂✌️🇬🇧
Edit: and reskin the roof 👍
It's good to hear your son hanging out with you 😂
He was loving it. Some other commments are like ‘the kid is annoying he needs to learn he is not the centre of the universe’. Well he’s the centre of my universe and that’s all that matters. Without him we’d have no channel. I’d be dead / AWOL.
@GeoffBuysCars He's proper cute! He was buzzing over that half knackered briefcase...bless his wee cotton sockies!! I might have to hunt out those "other" comments...miserable bar-stewards!
What a beauty damn!
I've got a Vauxhall Astra 1999 parts are a nightmare to find? the hot weather makes the roof lining come off I put lots of spray glue to keep it in place at least now i only have to push it back in place!
If you drop a tiny bit of auto oil in the exhaust it'll be great for just stop oil nutters
Looks like your having a right laugh with that car.
1” down all round, set of wheel spacers and 3deg of camber on the rear. Would look the bees knees.
That Renault looks like a push me pull you car. The overhangs are the same front and back. Don't dislike it though.
You could do a What if Renault 10 in the 1972 Paris - Dakar
The more I see the R10, the more I like it. But what the hell happened to the roof? did it reverse under a fork lift truck?
Had a claret and blue bedroom for my 10th birthday present in '87 😊🙏
The glass bottle is a coolant expansion bottle a’la Renault 4 and early 5s.
Isn't the tiny 'washer bottle' for brake fluid ?
Geoff, You may not be able to OPEN the bonnet if you put those lights on the front bumper. Max. Australia.
Talbot sunbeam... i used to have one of those
Its in good nick a part from the roof Put a red and white checkered on the roof to hide it.
Helloooo Lyndon 🤩
Overheating at speed...time to check the head gasket? Probably leaking gas into the cooling circuit.
This is a HubNut steal.👀
If it had been rescued from a breakers yard, that might account for the state of the roof, which looks like it could have had some RangeRovers parmed on it at sone point in its life😂!
Interesting car that.
Vinyl roof with carpet underlay. Lol
Oh it so need a tach😀😀😀
A Smiths one fits in the air vent to the right of the steering wheel.
@@kennekam I was thinking a big autometer with light on the dash 😆
Turn it into a rally car 👍
Vinyl roof or hide it with surfboards...... 🏴☠
Wear rain gear
Did you get the Haribo voice over person?
Its an expansion bottle .I could do with one of them 👍👍
Nice.make it run on hho. Water!
I bet those spares may be off a performance Renault. Disc brakes and quarter bumper, this car needs special treatment and a road trip to London!!
If you want them I've got a pair of spot lights I've not used or need anymore
Trying to beat ulez with a54 year old Renault, what could possibly go wrong? It’s a Renault, everything!
The the only worry to me is safety. No headrests no airbags no strengthening in the doors. And I grew up on these sort of cars,TR2,austin, Renault deaphine austin 7(1938 cable brakes) ,consul,zephyr4etc
And you're still alive.
Hint rally car. These were very well known for being good at rallying.
Jissis ...you okes talk kak South African ekse ..... 😆
Sun Roof ... oh NOOOO
Electrolysis for the discs
stickers that say ULEZ Sports
A hole in a car roof leaks. I can tell you that after 60 years motoring cars made post war and pre war. Nothing will change this phenomenon bar welding the hole shut! This will also make the car stiffer noticeable because the passenger door will stay shut!
With all this Ulez shite going on how come this is allowed to happen? "In 2019 the red arrows sprayed 643000 litres of diesel and 63000 litres of coloured dye during their practice and displays" That is serious pollution folks. Geoff need to expand on this possibly?
And gvt military vehicles are exempt,!!
If they were actually bothered about pollution, they wouldn't all be driving round in huge cars, or flying off in their private jets and we wouldn't be throwing millions into a proxy war...🤔
Geoff. i am s stand builder living in Shrawley. I build a lot of stuff at the NEC. Mostly at the motorhome show and stuff for AM also. If you need any help please let me know. Mates rates at worse. Free to you for some things.
Thank you!
that car is screaming put a few hundred horses under the bonnet, of boot in this case
:-O tyres are worth more than whats sat on them.
Leave Geoff alone ffs! 😂
Just put a surgical mask over the exhaust that will beat the ulez 😆
You mean on the air intake, surely?
That'll take 20% off your top speed!
Anyone else's mind conjure up a picture of a 'massive rack' on the roof? 😂
