Do you use rotten tomatoes when deciding to watch a movie? HAS IT RUINED YOUR LIFE?! thanks for watching! Instagram: mattyreal_ Twitch: mattyisstreaming
Watched this because it was in my recommended section, without looking at the numbers, and now that I’ve noticed the view count I gotta say man, you’re so underrated!
I clicked into this an assumed it was some big CZcams’s million view video essay but then I realised this is actually a small channel u have such a good production level keep it up dawg 🎉
I've never trusted Rotten Tomatoes ratings. They just seemed to suddenly appear everywhere and for some reason everyone was taking their ratings seriously. I feel like I dropped in from an alternate timeline or something
On top of the fact that I think that too many mid movies are achieving too-high scores now, I'll also add here that I'm often astounded by the low scores certain movies received in the 90's and 2000's that I feel would have easily found an 80 or 90% score now, so the system also feels very inconsistent that way. Two movies I rewatched recently that I absolutely loved were "Now and Then" and "Mr. and Mrs. Smith." These two movies are no Shawshank Redemption, but they are so well actualized and earnest, and every scene is considered and delivers exactly the type of character moments/growth, comedy or action that feels satisfying and earned. I just find these two movies to be incredibly fulfilling and enjoyable as a viewer, especially now, when I have seen more movies that have left me feeling like "did the director even want to make this?" and yet both movies achieved Rotten scores on RT. Even when I take multiple steps back and look at how these films were crafted from a more objective lens, I just can't fathom how they could have been rotten (though the reviews on Now and Then are atrociously sexist, so there's part of your reason).
This was actually fascinating! I understood that RT was kinda broken for multiple reasons, but it's cool to see how it's also broken from the math/stats side.
Incredible video dude (and it’s your first video on this channel… does that mean I got here before it was cool?) definitely agree with this. More and more I find myself judging whether to watch a movie on description alone, which seems to work just fine.
Man, perfect video on the whole rottentomatoes issue and how people shape their perception on movies based completely on scores and can’t simply find nice flicks by their own interests.
I think more people need to stop looking at review scores and letting it color their impression of a movie before they watch it. I found tons of movies that are "rated low" that I really like, and some that are "rotten" that I don't think are as bad as people think.
while i absolutely understand what you're saying, i would like to bring up the fact that RT can serve as more of a percent-chance that you'll like it, rather than a rating system.
