About Gold Shaw Farm: Gold Shaw Farm is more of a farm-in-progress than an honest-to-goodness farm. We dream that someday we can transform our 150+ acre parcel of land into a regenerative and productive homestead and farm. - Zábava
A friend of mine was a music student in college, and did a project where he collected a whole bunch of recordings of cattle auctioneers to use in a composition. Ended up finding out that a majority of cattle auctioneers auction things off in the key of E major!
Your friend must be very creative.
That's awesome!! Anyway we can listen?
"Things I learnt today.."
The list grows.😊
Your friend should be knighted or something. This info is too good.
Guitars are tuned to E because that's the standard tone for the male voice.
Allison taking snacks to the pigs was adorable!
Hello deed?
Wild birds are also known to get drunk on fermented fruit.
One of our smarter parrots used to mash up fruit with his beak, then hide the mush in a corner. He defended that corner against all comers, then ate it when he thought it had fermented enough. Result - drunk parrot.
That's a hoot! I saw somewhere swans or geese were getting high on opium since they were consuming some part of the poppy plant.
One of my Acting for Non-majors students at Mizzou was a certified auctioneer--his family business. He taught the class "the patter," as he called it. So fun!
My aunt lived in upstate New York where they have weekly barn auctions. My mother went with ny aunt to one and couldn't believe what people were auctioning off. She had a great time. My aunt is a collector of crackle glass. Every part of her home has crackle glass objects from the auctions.
It's always great to see Allison.
Should point out that pigs too can ferment quite a bit of the fiber they eat into fats, much like herbivores, so they would be getting a decent amount of energy from the brewer's grains
Spent grains and milk are a pretty good way to raise pork. Harvesting protein from the left overs.
@@TransKidsMafia well, GL with that nut

I remember the last auction you were at, thinking you bought some gates? The gun cabinet was a nice purchase, good on you Morgan. Have to say I'm glad the piggies got a reprieve, but I know it is part of farm life to do what you have to do, Allison was so sweet saying hello to the girls with a treat they seemed to have enjoyed. Thanks for taking us along Morgan, all is well at Gold Shaw Farm, see ya!
I mean, he doesn't "have to do" anything. He could also give the pigs to an animal rescue, or keep them on the farm until they die of old age. I still love watching the channel, but killing the pigs is purely a conscious decision.
@@EC-jd9ejyes but they are meat swine, they aren’t supposed to be pets. Unfortunately if you’re going to keep them then you end up losing lots of money on feed that you’ll never get back in meat/byproducts from the swine.
Allison is just the sweetest. I am always delighted to see her interact with the farm you have both created. Love you both. Thank you for sharing your farm life with us. I was raised on a hobby farm with chickens, Guernsey cows, Shetland ponies, beagles, roosters etc. with both my parents gone now, watching your channel brings back so many memories (but I don’t have to do any chores)🥰🥰
It's always nice to go home from an auction with something you wanted at a nice price.
@Gold Shaw Farm , It was so nice to see Alison. She is always smiling. I'm sure that this time of the year it will start getting super busy for her at work. Please tell her hello for me, Morgan. Hope you both have a great day
I think pigs are cute too Alison ❤ Nice score on the gun cabinet it looks very sturdy and Bobcats are a heck of a lot of fun Morgan … you should treat yourself one day if you see one at a good price.
I am such a sucker for well-made wooden cabinets with lots of doors/drawers/cubbies, so even though I will never need a gun cabinet, I loved that one and am happy you got it. I look forward to seeing what you do with it. Congrats!
Too cute, Allison, "hey. No fighting"🙂
If you have a Costco nearby, you can get that same freezer brand new for about $150-200. (Oregon prices)
Oh Morgan, I think your wife may be the reason to keep getting pigs! She seems to really love them. The gun cabinet is gorgeous and matches the new barn!
How do you slaughter an animal that you supposedly love?
Is that why people name their animals food names to not supposedly grow too close? Even then your giving them a name that itself is a bond.
@@michaelmercurio5647 the farmer in this case tries to make sure his animals on have one bad day. But I’m sure you’re vegan and would never eat animals. But other people still eat meat and I’d rather the animals I eat be raised like this than on massive meat farms. You can be an Omnivore responsibly.
A rare Allison appearance !😊
It is just me or the pigs are quite gentle with allison?
I'm glad the pigs got a reprieve for now. I hope my hard copy of the TOBY book arrives this week. 🤞🏻
It would be great to see a video about how you keep organized. What system has worked for you. The gun cabinet has beautiful wood, but is also functional. I love to see Allison with the pigs.
Your Barn is insanely clear and organized
The piggies are looking good. 😊 Glad you kept yourself to your planned budget at the auction.
Prayers for health and safety!🙏❤️🙏
Never been to an auction. I enjoyed watching one in action. The gun cabinet is a beautiful addition to your barn. Thanks for the video and enjoyed seeing Allison in a cameo appearance.
We used to attend lots of farm auctions and loved them not only can you get bargains but it’s a great social time as well
Since Covid only one auctioneer has gone back to live auctions. The rest still on line. Ontario Canada
Your wife,at the end, made this video. Such a good vibe she gives off
I enjoyed this so much! Loved seeing Alison with the pigs..the gun cabinet is perfect for storing stuff. I know how tough it is to organize- very proud of you- the barn looks great! ❤
I cannot believe a used freezer that size went for $325 even during hunting season. That gun cabinet for $70 is a steel, congrats.
It's always nice to see Allison in the videos for a cameo and it's so sweet to see how pleased she is with the pigs. It's sad they're going to be gone in the weeks to come but here's hoping you'll get enjoyment out of the sheep when you get them! Not sure if you were planning hair sheep for food or wool sheep for both food and wool but I think she's going to love them very much.
Fantastic score on the cabinet, and it looks like it is supposed to be in the new barn!
I love how much Alison loves the animals. Improve my day to see her having such a lovely time with them.
I'm glad the pigs get to live. I was sad to hear in your last video you were getting ready to put them down. I'm excited to see where their story takes us since they're staying!
Congrats on your cabinet. Really looks good in your new barn.
That gun cabinet was a steal at $70!
Enjoyed watching the auction. Seeing Alison is always a treat! 😊
Thanks for sharing this!
I grew up near Eugene Oregon, we went to auctions, the guy took me back in time!
i think it is so cool how they are taking land back for you from the wilderness. Amazing. I cant wait to see the final results of the spaces they cleared.
🤤🫢🍖🥓🌭❤ I KNEW you'd never do it on the farm, especially after Allison fell in love with them. Mixed feelings. Pigs are so very bright and need an active, interesting life. Well done, you, on that count. But they sure are DELICIOUS, too!
Way to go, Morgan! It's so easy to get caught up on the moment and over bid.
That last clip made me smile, Your wife is the cutest. You are lucky man Morgan 🥰
The cabinet is beautiful. Love to watch auctions.😊
This video brings back great childhood memories of going to farm auctions with my grandparents! My grandma absolutely loved them. We also hosted one per my grandpa’s wishes when he passed.
I could never go to an auction cause even with a list, I'd still get caught up and go over before we got half way through the things I wanted
I suspect Allison is happier than the three pigs combined for the extra few days :)
Morgan, has it sometimes happened that you brought something back from an auction, and had to convince Allison of why it was a good idea ? :P
My dad used to take me and my brother to auctions. What great memories ❤️
I love it when Allison is so gracious as to be in one of your videos.
Love Morgan's "auction" videos!! SO fun to see ALL the treasures abound!!
That barn work shop is looking good. Nice cabinet find too!
The pigs are cute the auction was cool and fun and great that's a nice cabinet that you got for 70 bucks
Our great grandparents actually have a posed picture all dressed up and with their giant pigs, they were so serious too. Makes me laugh to this day.
I'm surprised that Alison is ok with butchering the pigs. I could imagine her wanting to send them to auction instead. 😊😊😊❤❤❤😊😊😊
your use of straps on that cabinet made me happy. My hubby is a truck driver (flatbed oversized loads) He straps down everything.
Please do some before and after shots of the pig areas
Morgan I'm pleased the pig are going for a while 🐷🐷🐷 I liked that cupboard too good luck👍
I thought you meant the PIGS were going to auction! But instead, you're just delaying the "bad day"? Also, make sure your new cabinet is stabilized so it doesn't topple! It's tall, will be top heavy depending on how it is loaded, and the floor is stones. If Ginny climbs it, she could knock it over!
You don’t know how farms work..move on
seadubya1, the video title and thumb nail are misleading, probably intentionally so.
@@sjbockI wouldn’t really say misleading as he did set a timeframe for the pigs that many were expecting. It’s just a delay
Great episode. Love the auction barkers too - that fast talk creates a frenzy atmosphere.
Love Allison's surprise appearance at the end. I know she's a private person. Love her smile and cheerfulness.
Congratulations on the gun cabinet! I loved this episode. And that gun cabinet was nice! Also, I always enjoy seeing Allison with the animals she enjoys.
Glad the pigs weren't going to auction! Lol. I wonder how Alison will feel about eating them, she clearly adores them. Good work on the gun cabinet, a great piece of furniture for the barn.
Prayers for health and safety.🙏❤🙏
thumbs up for Allison clip at the end, and the piggies as well!
For some reason this video made me think of the episode of Newhart where Bob runs a charity auction for the local library. Bob Newhart trying to do auctioneer patter is comedy gold.
I just realized how similar that show is to your actual life. Bob and his wife also ditch their city lives to live in Vermont, although they run an inn, not a farm. It's a great show, but maybe a little before your time.
Allison’s voice and just presence is that of pure light and warmth
Enjoyed seeing Jason Rhodes introducing your Toby Book to his family, and his youngest is in love with “Toby” the adorable stuffed animal that came with the book. Soooooo cute ☺️
Our pleasure! Im so glad they liked it!
I had to laugh when you said listening to the auctioneers is quite an art. I agreed. I actually find it hard to listen to... So it is an art to listen and figure out what on earth they are saying!
Hey, hey, Allison!! It is always very nice to see you!
Your new barn is beautiful.
Pretty cabinet you got. Good purchase!
I love the wife at 8:32 who just kept rubbing her husbands back. Thats cute
Warning with those black and yellow bins- the handles cut into your hands at points. They are very hard to break but if you ever have to move they they are a pain
That was fun, I`m glad you took us with you to the auction.
Good to see we as a species have re-learned the ancient technique of feeding pigs table scraps.
This situation seems a bit more versatile, not just table scraps but otherwise humanly inedible items.
@@SeekingTheLoveThatGodMeans7648 perhaps there's a more nuanced or German word for the term, but any food we can't eat or food waste generated in the process of making food are, broadly, tablescraps.
the file cabinet was worth more than $20 , I recognize it, they last a hundred years. congrats on the nice wood cabinet, it fits your barn and will be great to store all kinds of other stuff
I just watched the previous video earlier today & the way you named your video made me think that the pigs will live because you sold them for a decent price. Heh. The auction was very curious to watch!
Allison is such a sweetheart
Nice cabinet, can’t wait to see how you use it.
As soon as I saw that gun cabinet, I thought it would look great in the new barn!!
😍
The best part of my day is your videos!
I went to an auction when I live on an equine center. I got a horse when I was 10 years old. It was an interesting experience.
As your buddy Jeff can tell you, the spent grains you are feeding your pigs are not fermented and do not contain any alcohol. In the brewing process, sugars are extracted from the grains into a liquid (wort) which is what gets fermented into beer. The spent grains you are feeding the pigs is what is left over after their sugars have been removed.
Im like allison !! On my aunt's farm..wr had miss piggy and her little piglets ..8 of them !! They were so gosh darn cute!!
Ha! I was pulling for you to win the gun cabinet. We did it! 😁 Mrs Gold Shaw with the pigs was the best end piece ever
you can get freezers like that for about 500 new, which i can see why used would be so tempting, but i honestly wouldn't value them above 200 used even if they work perfectly, cuz you don't know WHAT coulda been stored in there
I was so happy you got the gun cabinet because it so fits the barn aesthetic!
When I read the title... I thought that you were going to auction off the pigs! Lol
I always enjoy a cattle auction. Farm auctions are even better with all of the different items
I’m like you, Morgan. I am enchanted with the auctioneer’s cadence. Also, love the cabinet you acquired. It will look great in the barn!
Auctions are one of my favorite things to do been going since I was a kid such a fun time
Those are some well fed pigs with the life of Reilly.
That was interesting and well presented! Thank you for taking me along! (I can only speak for me;)) Such auctions are non existent where I live, unfortunately!
LOVE THE BARN!!
Hello to Allison - good to see you! The barn is looking great.
Gotta say Allison's comment on the pig's ears struck me as pretty funny when I recalled baked pig ears getting used as dog chew treats. But then of course I have an odd sense of humor.
This auction footage was really cool!
A side note, you mentioned having guns in the gun cabinet, and I started thinking about how much stuff you have in the new barn, which you show off in many videos. I hope you have a good set of alarms and/or video surveillance around it (not sure if you've mentioned it somewhere), since you are basically showcasing to the world what you keep in there (and the layout, etc.).
The dogs. Good luck setting foot on property undetected.
@@tabytastick the dogs bark all night anyway, it seems like, not sure Morgan would notice
@@tabytastick i thought they had them in a locked area at night?
Reading the thumbnail, I thought you were gonna auction the pigs😂😂😂
So happy that your sharing this!! Love all your videos and info!
Thanks for taking us along. Where I live, since covid, most auctions are online only. I miss going.
Morgan, first, I want to say that those are some of the nicest pigs I have ever seen. I grew up on the farm and my dad loves raising pigs, even over all the cattle breeds we had!! There is one pig that has a gray nose that I really like it’s face, and overall confirmation!! It was sweet, seeing your wife, feed the pigs as well calling them wiggly Piggly‘s, even.
Next, I want to comment on the auction you went to in you saying that you’d like to just hear the art form of the auction you’re crying for bids. I totally agree with you. My father used to take me with him to the auction and that is where I first found my enjoyment of going to the auction but later in life, I work for an auctioneer down in Kansas for multiple years until the year 2000 when I had to move to Iowa when my mother came down with cancer. There’s a big difference between going to an auction and working at an auction. You cannot be distracted by anyone coming up to talk to you when you’re working because everything happens at a very fast pace!…
Whether you are writing the bids down, or working in the trailer, tearing the beds apart, and putting them in the right number slot as that person continues to buy multiple items, or years of person, running between the trailer that people are bidding the items from or are you running back to the clerk? Who’s telling the bids.. you can’t afford to have a “Hi. It’s nice to see you❣️ type of conversation when you’re working because just in 30 seconds you can miss a bid and the auctioneer will have to stop to tell you what it was and that involves asking the crowd. It’s more fun going to an auction and working an auction, but it was thrilling at the same time to work an auction.❣️❣️😊
I agree with you, Morgan totally about making your list and your Vance and writing down your maximum bed because way too often people get caught up in “winning the bid” & later, regretting what they spent to own it!!!😂😂 I might go one bit over what I have written down, but I never went more than that one bid over because it all adds a very quick when you start spending way over your budget.
I like seeing these Morgan. Thanks for a nice morning. ❤
That gun cabinet was well worth $70. It will look great for odds and ends in the new barn. Good score Morgan
Morgan, love your cabinet! If you don't use it as a gun cabinet, I'm sure you'll find a good use for it. Your wife is a sweet heart!
That gun cabinet was my top choice for Morgan. Looks well made, has country-flair and will be excellent for storage. Just be sure to anchor to something sturdy. While Vermont probably doesn't get too many earthquakes, errant animals could topple it. BTW is it me or do the pigs seem more calm, collected and contented around Mrs. Gold?
