Today I'm doing that most dangerous of things - meeting up with an old flame! In this video it's the 2010 Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT S. A car that I never previously considered, but fell in love with once I drove - and sold for reasons that turned out not to be.

I've owned a 2012 QP5 Sport GTS for almost 6 years now. Almost 76k miles on it. I drive it year-round in Chicago with snows on dedicated rims. I still love the car. I dropped some considerable coin on it last year on maintenance and did so with the expectation that I can keep driving it reliably for another 5 years. I'm a bit of a car nut, and am most fortunate to be able to buy what I want - old or new - so it's a conscious decision by me to continue ownership of this car. The sound is superb, as all know. It drives "smaller" than it is. The exterior design is "assertive" without being over wrought. It's comfortable. New cars are great, but I can't use all that they offer at legal speeds here in the Chicagoland area, nor would I want to deal with malfunctioning sensors, chips, screens, dynamic this and that, after the warranty expires. An FF/Lusso is an upgrade, but not yet ready to live in the Ferrari ecosystem.

    OMG that sound.........is priceless

I know of no other car that can touch my heart like the Quattroporte. ❤️

  • @CraigMcB68

The Jaguar XJR. The 5.0 litre supercharged V8, last shape, are now creeping under the £30k mark. I remember Clarkson's race the sun in that one, epic race. Worth a look.

    Reasons to re-aquire the Masser:

  • @chrishatch499

I own an 08 quattroporte gts euro spec and love it. Nothing matches the feeling you get when you drive it and hear the exhaust. Handles and performs way more than it should. This brand requires people with passion!

  • @stevem9307

Always worth looking at M539 Restorations. He is temporarily ditching BMW and currently fully refurbishing a GTS in his indominable style.

What a legend Jay. My absolute favorite brand and an ex owner of ghibli, every time you upload a maserati video I like you even more than before. Also, my favorite car channel.

  • @chrisgmurray3622

I'm not even (at least not in real life) really a car person, although I always appreciate the subtlety of design both in the engineering, and the stlying of cars, and so watch many car videos, and I have to say that though often the "exhaust note" is referred to in a car video, when this one began, I heard the most beautiful engine sound I've ever heard anywhere or anytime. After years of TV and CZcams, this sang to me like a Telecaster with a bridge humbucker into a cranked 18 Watt handwired vintage valve amp! I'm obviously a guitarist, and never really got that "exhaust thing", I mean I get it, it's like an old Plexi Marshall 100watt Super Lead is to guitarists what a Roland V8 is to petrol heads, but this sound is beyond a wine-taster's descriptive vocabulary. I'm amazed!

A VERY unpopular oppinion incoming, but.. what if? A Volvo S80 V8?

  • @Michael0300

As a 2013 Lexus LS600h F Sport owner I've been lusting after something slightly lighter and louder to drive. My favorites to lust after are the Pininfarina Quattroporte Sport GTS and the v8 Lexus LC500 . I think the upkeep of the QP5 would cost the same in the end as getting a newer LC500. There is something indescribable about this era Italian design and charm though.

  • @boristabacsplatt6609

Nothing you mentioned, and nothing I can think of would be as good as this Maserati. You obviously still love it, so follow your heart and buy it now. A ridiculously good car for not a lot of money.

  • @borjejohansson6805

Jay, I think that you mostly have what you deserve in an positive manner. I would have it, but my dad left me his X81 V12 Daimler, so I allready have a marriage keeper.

  • @markcompton6750

There are a couple of these in and around Burford, one blue and one silver. They both look and sound amazing. In a world of expensive 4x4 and EV’s these really stand out, they really do

  • @zak2175

Jag X350 XJR / XJ SV8 (if you can find one) would be my suggestion. You yourself have said they are fantastic.

  • @squeakers27

This was one of the most sensible purchases you made, no idea why you sold it, so yes you should buy it back! I swear you are always saying i need a 4 door car but with some flare and this is it.

  • @Mokoliini

Having 15 cars, panamera turbo s, 911 997.2 etc, need.. some Italian ... in Finland taxes eating all pleasures tho.. Still Go Go, Just got 2011 4.7 l Quattroporte s, ftom Japan, no rust but engine service 10 k ;)

    Congratulations on 350,000 subscribers, James!

  • @oggie1967

James, I really can’t think of a reason why you shouldn’t revisit the quattroporte! Sometimes cars just get under your skin, whether you are a journalist like yourself or not.
