      Shane O Mac 0 Assassins Creed Unity wasn't downgraded. They most likely downgrade a lot of games because, of how Assassins Creed Unity's release was; buggy and unresponsive. Unity was a good game but had a horrible start which made it get bad reviews. Which is probably why they downgraded this one. I'd honestly like a buggy game that'd be fixed upon a week or so of the initial release rather than a completely downgraded game but, that's just me. I personally love The Division but, it's sad to see it become downgraded so much.

Which means artists can make it look very very good and have it run 60 fps on shit hardware. But as the game develops and as more mechanics and scenery and whatever calcuations are added that same shit hardware can no longer get 60 fps. So, a whole video on the diferences between both versions, yet you don't say a word about the downngrade on a piece of the gameplay that is supposed to be a key element in visual experience: animations. In the E3 demo, they look fantastic and organic like it was really a step forward in gaming animations, whereas in the current versions they still look clumsy as usual. IMO, this is symptomatic: nowadays, players and media are way too concerned about resolution, frame rate, textures and other minor elements that are important yeah, but shouldn't be as important as either physics or animations.

But since the entire gaming industry has been bought out in the mid / late 2000's, and now they don't give a fuck about the law because they have gotten away with it so many times, many developers (who are now owned by giant media conglomerates and do everything they are told to do) secure millions of pre-orders based on false advertising.

      +The XXI well it's important to understand that it's an RPG and that's why enemies are bullet sponges. Wouldn't make much sense to have an rpg where all the enemies can be one shotted except for bosses and elits. I do understand your opinion though and I also doubt that stealth will be any more of a mechanic other than having friends taking fire and you sitting back with a sniper avoiding bullets, if you wanna call that stealth. Also as a side note, it's not post apocalyptic, you're playing in an ongoing pandemic, like 2 weeks after the outbrake.

      Yeah but see, in Bethesda games, stealth is feasible, by having damage multiplier etc, that really could be applicable in The Division with the upgrade trees that we saw.
      I really think they fucked up, instead of sponges they could've gone for higher number of enemies. You just don't put bullet sponges in a hyper realistic environment and more so in one that exist in the real world, it really kills it for me.

    Wow, I wasn't too fussed about the graphics and the like, but the changes to the HUD REALLY disappoint. It was far more immersive and fitted the world and game a lot more. Now it seems to be casualified and lazy. Took a lot of hype out of me.

      Exactly. As if they wanted to cater to noobish players and thought, "Hey, let's make the health bar three times larger!"
      I'm also not keen on the minimap, to be honest. I liked it being kind of spontaneous. Like you could only navigate with your map and your curiosity. If you see an apartment building, go have a look. And if you suddenly encounter enemies, than either improvise or high tail it and come back later.
      I don't know. They definitely dumbed it down to sell it to a more casual fan base.

      +Crona „Thunderhaz“ Gorgon Look at the extent of the stuff that is in the menu. There are like 12 skills, all with around 12 talents? that can enhance them. You got several slots to equip armor and weapons and each weapon has around 2-6 mod slots... and now try to manage that with a menu that emerges from your watch and only shows 2-3 rows at all time.. horrible. It takes you out of the "immersion" but you have everything you need at one big screen, and I think that was the intent with the UI change. Same with the map, it looked cool but hell, you can't see anything on the 2013 map, and there are not even markers or anything one there. Think about finding one PoI or a vendor on that map *shrug*

      I'd prefer the immersion, simply when you click an option on the first menu, it takes you to the next and it looks much nicer. Also there was FAR less UI clutter on the build we saw at e3 2013, I mean why is it 1/3 up the screen now and why does it look so much brighter?

    • @RoyalAviator
      @RoyalAviator Před 8 lety

      +Chris P. Bacon It leads to disappointment by the developers as well. A lot of the time developers will have amazing ideas and dreams for their games and as time progresses they reach more and more roadblocks. The developers may have imagined a game very similar to the E3 demo but with a more larger scale but once you start moving away from that small vertical slice things start to go down hill. The tiny map they may have actually had developed in the demo may have ran perfectly fine looking like it did then but as they developed more and more they could realise that current hardware just wont be able to handle it well (not necessarily the consoles). They may reach a point where the game takes titan x' in sli to run it well which just isn't feasible for the average or even most hardcore consumers so they will downgrade a lot of the fancy lighting like you see in this video.
      I'd much rather see the game downgraded than see the game so demanding that 99% of the people interested in the game couldn't even play it.

    @PatrykPonichtera Před 8 lety +50

    I'm a game developer so I'll try to explain the differences you see here.
    Reflexions usually are quite expensive to render, they might be full blown on a high end pc but they have to be blurred on consoles as they can't handle that rendering power.
    When making a video game usually the high poly stuff is ready first and you create LODs (level of detail) meshes which are lower in poly and they are displayed when further from the camera, on the e3 demo they used high res meshes for everything while in the final one you have LODS kicking in.
    HUD changes are for user experience. You wouldn't want a beautiful hud that you hate navigating.
    If I recall correctly consoles can have a max of 2k resolution textures, PCs can even have 8k.
    If the game has a day/night cycle then it means it uses dynamic lighting, which is expensive to render, you can have low poly models and low res textures but with good lighting they can look stunning, so the quality of lighting is what will give 80% of the visual beauty. That's why the Xbox one version looks more washed out and boring.
    The pc version might be better because of more horsepower, but it might also not be too far from this as they might have toned down everything to have just one single build for all the platforms

      +Jori Diculous not really, over promising is never good. I pre-ordered the division, but now my pre-order is cancelled because it doesn't seem as I expected it to be. So it's not good marketing.
      Also studios and game developers are the ones that are most disappointed when they find out they can't ship a game as they planned and they have to downgrade it. No one likes that part. Also downgrading has a cost, since you have to rework on stuff.
      Indie games usually look better when shipped than in alpha versions, that's because indie devs often use placeholder models. Big studios usually show with their high res meshes so the final game will usually look worse, unless they make lighting improvements

    • @JoriDiculous
      @JoriDiculous Před 8 lety +2

      Patryk Ponichtera And yet, they always do it. Every single AAA game its the same story. E3 trailers looks amazing! Come release day, "poop".
      To be fair though. Looking at the E3 trailer and the gameplay i have seen so far, the graphics doesn't look that much of a downgrade. Its more the eye candy like reflections, lights, shadows etc, the lack of rubble "street candy". One can only hope this is better on PC who got the power to handle more rubble, cars etc. But for the lights and that. wait for the ENB to (hopefully)be coded.
      A indie game trying the same marketing tricks would be the death of that dev :P

    I doubt this is because of Xbox's hardware, we've seen much better looking stuff running smoother than what the Devision is like now. This is just Ubisoft putting more money into an initial reveal, only to pull back when it comes to the full game. They can't put all the assets into the full game or else it would quadruple the cost of development.

It could, but due to budget it was likely scaled down, and even further for consoles. But look at The Last of Us, its a last gen game and arguably looks just as good. Mad Max is better looking, Infamous is better looking, Killzone is better looking, there is some serious optimisation that could be done but Ubisoft doesnt have the budget to perform.

  • @TheAdamacy
    @TheAdamacy Před 8 lety +31

    Was very hyped for this game with all the cool things I saw back when it first aired to the world. I thought MAN. With all the Tom Clancy games I've played, I surely HAVE to have this.
    Then as time went on, I got to see the walkthroughs and demos and saw how the game changed from Great... to good... to ok... to something stupid. Yeah, the core of the game is still there which is... you're an agent and you're killing stuff... with guns and tech. That's it? But it feels a lot like Destiny rather than a Tom Clancy game. If you had played ANY TC game, you'd know that it has style(graphics, customization, etc) and it had substance(meaningful encounters, decisions- ammo management, etc) together with enemies that seemed endless but actually weren't. They felt endless because you could feel the intensity of the firefights and you felt the thrill of your life as your ammo went down while bullets whizzed through buzzing and cracking wood, concrete and metal as you struggled getting from one cover to the next. At some point, you knew that your shots mattered. Every bullet counts. You weren't a sponge either. Every hit you take counts. You know, like how it is supposed to feel like?
    So. What did they do here?
    They gave you bullet sponge enemies and A LOT of ammo. This killed it for me. In a TC game, you are supposed to be a bad ass, the 1 shot killing, stealth ninja super soldier of doom. Here, you're a spray and pray agent who has a hard time taking down 1 nameless "mob" soldier who takes 30 bullets in the face and still finds time to fire a few bullets before he goes down. Give these super enemy soldiers some aim and outnumber the players by 1 and there you have it, the so called challenge. Instead of making the enemy retreat, you'd be the one retreating with your tail between your legs. Then you regroup with the only viable tactic this game has: luring them to choke points.
    The only real thrill we get here is running for your lives because the enemy charges you or outnumbers you by 1. WAT. Not buying into this shit. Very sad Tom Clancy died; but happy he didn't live long enough to see them murder his work. FML. They should just rename the title to Tom Clancy's Bullet Sponge: Unlimited

    • @TheAdamacy
      @TheAdamacy Před 8 lety +7

      I mean honestly. They could have things realistic with 1 shot kills and just had everyone go with very little ammo to work with. But no. They had to cater to a massive audience who they can't trust to enjoy a game that was meant to be set in a world of a tactical survival genre. Now we have Destiny clone painted with TC's name.

    • @oxykilldone5113
      @oxykilldone5113 Před 8 lety +5

      +The Adam Confederacy Tom clancy games did used to have the best gunfights. They were the shooters that made you think about every move you make, more of a strategy game really. That bullet sponge shit is completely out of place in a T.C. game. Strategic combat is always better than run-and-gun, too bad that genre is a dying breed. I 100% agree with you.

    • @DomsBlading
      @DomsBlading Před 8 lety +1

      +The Adam Confederacy Yup. It's the cold hard truth. From playing the Rainbow Six games, to the Splinter Cell games, to the past Ghost Recon games, all of them were truly great. But this game just looks atrocious in its current form. It's just so hard to believe that why would Ubisoft put in all that effort into making the game so vibrant and only in the end to strip it all of its former beauty when they knew they'd most likely have to downgrade it. It's such false advertising and I don't care what anyone says. At least the guys over at DICE still made their battlefront game look absolutely gorgeous upon release despite its lackluster gameplay, so why couldn't Ubisoft do the same to its textures? Doesn't make any sense. As for gameplay, yea I'm not clicking with the "rpg" style hit marker numbers. Maybe a few would be ok as like indicators, but too many and it just becomes unrealistic, especially in a potentially realistic story setting/environment.
      Well.... here's to hope that Ghost Recon Wildlands doesn't fail us. Cheers~

    • @ladyofolyas
      @ladyofolyas Před 8 lety +1

      +The Adam Confederacy but you're forgetting that TC: the Division isn't a tactical shooter per say as its predecessors like Rainbow 6 and Splinter Cell; the Division is an RPG, which is why the enemies take so many hits, you can see the damage indicators when you hit them, and don't begin with the you-can't-one-shot-anyone-in-this-game either, because you can... oh, and by the way, the Division is honestly nothing like Destiny, sure people will want you to believe that, but it's not

    • @oxykilldone5113
      @oxykilldone5113 Před 8 lety

      Madison Bjerre His whole point is that those mechanics are completely out of place for a TC game, games that used to focus more on realism. Just because its an rpg doesn't mean that the enemys have to be bullet sponges. Gta online is an RPG, but it doesn't take almost 2 magazines to kill an opponent. If The Division had better, more realistic gunfights, it would be a lot more intense, and the damage indicators ruin immersion. It's marketed as a tactical RPG, but tactics go out the window when you get rushed by swarms of bullet sponges, it just turns into spray-and-pray. They should've changed the games' name and did their own thing. TC games set the bar very high for realism, and this game lowered it to the point that this is hardly a TC game. Sadly this isn't the first game to tarnish the TC brand.

However, the pirate was somewhat bugged, and had around 100 times the health of his fellow pirates. He pushed us back so far we might as well just given up. Tons of effort, wasted for some copper and karma( which I never found a good use for other than rotting away in my pockets). If the enemies in this game have lots of valuable loot drops, it might be less discouraging to take them on, but from the gameplay that I've seen, The lack of a class system( and thus, no useless loot) might make it much more playable.Hopefully.

      It's consoles and the penny pinching idiots who don't want to upgrade anything even though their computer is 10 years old and they can afford it combined with a great many people not knowing how to set up good computers (that's fine) so a great many greedy companies bait them into buying 10 year old computers at full price anyways making them think it's the shit.

    Over 2 years of development happened since that footage. How can you possibly expect there won't be any notable changes? Also, the reveal was obviously on a PC; why would they reveal their game at lower than best graphical fidelity? I understood from the beginning that the console release would be subpar to the gameplay reveal, and many changes are bound to happen over a course of 2-3 years.

      Almost 3 years time....well i expect a graphical upgrade NOT downgrade because they had 3 fuckin years! time to learn how the consoles archticture works! Sorry but they are just to lazy to do the work.
      Even the almost 9 (!) years old Crysis 1 had better graphics than this :D

    • @NJPwN
      @NJPwN Před 8 lety +5

      +DerHalbeEuro 3 years of development means more content, which means more optimization to meet asset budgets for consoles. When it comes to developing for multiple platforms, there are limits and boundaries on how detailed (asset/polygon count) the content can be. A game like Crysis 1 was built and released for only PC, with little to no limits on the engine's output. The game was ported to consoles years later, where you can see what limits the game became plagued with in result. No doubt, if the game was exclusively developed for PC release, we wouldn't have seen any graphical downgrade. But the simple fact is that more content means better optimization is required. It's a real thing that goes on in game development. Ubisoft just makes it clear to consumers because they show the game's full potential at reveal, then the optimized version on console.
      But in all honesty, although the game's console version suffered graphicly-- it still looks incredible compared to most console games. Most of you are just being overly dramatic.

They may not want to isolate people with GTS 450 by making this seem like one would need a 980 to run it. When I first saw reviews for this game I though ok it's another medicore title with 6/10 score. But after I bought full version of it two weeks ago I'm having a blast with two of my friends. For me it's strong 8/10. The game lacks sometimes with depth or having some crash issues but it's a really nice team shooter. And if you can max it out like I did the game looks sweet :)

    Ubisoft E3 builds to retail builds are basically when you add too much objects, effects and scripts in Arma 3 to make your scenario “immersive” only to end up in a laggy mess so you are forced to downgrade 90% of it just to get 30FPS
