Happy 36th Birthday, Amiga

A quick tribute. The Amiga computer was released in North America on July 23, 1985, 36 years ago, and internationally soon after. Its multi-tasking and ability to display multiple screen modes at the same time still never ceases to amaze.

Thank you Commodore for buying the Amiga (even though your marketing of the machine was epic in its horribleness) and thank you Amiga for opening up to me new worlds of multitasking and multimedia - 3D graphics, video production, desktop publishing, pixel painting, MIDI and MODs, and of course, incredible games.

So well said. It really is amazing how fast out of the gate they were in the 80s. It didn't work out, but what a legacy.

36 years and still ticking; I am waiting for my Pistorm. It’s systems design and casedesign is timeless. Why is this not in the MoMa?

aww, AMIGA 1000 is one of my favorites... I once had a closet full of them, stacked about 15 high. heh I was a kid and I bought them for $150, was selling them for $300. :)

Holy smoke! Well, you did pretty well honestly. Hard to have any regrets about that. These days you might fetch $450 for some in nice condition with a keyboard. Finding ones that aren't really yellow at this point or banged up - now that's the trick. But they are little tanks. Don't generally need recapping and just keep on ticking.
