The equipment belt normally hooks into the hooks that are sewn into the blouse. When wearing the Zelt is the belt still able to ride in those hooks? Or does the zelt fabric prevent their use? I wonder if the Germans would cut slits into the zelt fabric so their belts could again “hook” as it would if the rain cape was not worn and would be more secured. I suppose this would be less than ideal if you needed to turn the rain cape into a shelter in the rain because there would be more openings for water to get in. Thanks for the video.

Question, if the army had this from the start of the war, how come we never see camouflage in early war photographs or artistic depictions of that period? (1939-1941)

It really depends on the division and where they were at. But my guess is the soldiers were in cities and buildings since Early war was in favor of Germany. Also photographers may have not been allowed in the Frontline at the time. But then again most ww2 photos are hard to date at times but very valid point

Camouflage was mainly used by the SS in the early days of the war. There were political reasons, but it was also costly to give all troops camouflage clothing. If you look at pictures of the German invasion of the Netherlands you’ll only see SS troops wear camo smocks or helmet coverings.
