    Looking forward to next video about tent heater. Seen one person with a small fire, where the centre pole is (I think they had an external tripod, or maybe a ridge line- can’t remember, obviously they had it open at the top though). I was thinking about my firebox. Not many videos about these NVA tarps, even less, using them as a teepee/ Lavvu setup. Just got a third one for this purpose, I also have two Romanian ones, the oak leaf camo ones, think I’ll have to get another of those, shame they’ve no buttons, but I love the camo pattern!😁. I really like canvas tarps, have quite a few Russian Plash Palatkas also.

    • @Taromovies

      Hallo Detlef, Danke für Dein Feedback! Wie im Video gesagt gehe ich von einem Einzelgewicht von ca. 1.3kg aus (für die Aufnahmen hatte ich 4 Stk, dabei:-)
      Für lange Touren ist das nur geeignet wenn man mit dem Kanu unterwegs ist oder im Winter einen Schlitten dabei hat. Auch muss man schauen das die Imprägnierung immer i.O. ist, sonst wird es bei Nässe wirklich schwer, Ich nehme oft ein bis 2 Stk. mit und mache dann ein Lavvu Tipi vorn offen. Aber zum Bushcraften sprich sich im Wald an einem Ort aufhalten ist es schon sehr cool, LG Taro

      Many thanks for watching and your kind response. Yes i know the Kohte Tents (my Friend Ralph from Jurtenland sales them) and i've slept in them also. Really robust and durable, like also the option to have a open fire in it (of course if the size large enough). The only point is the weight, one part of four has about 3.5 kg (the size I was trying). The whole setup fits up to four people but to carry it alone on a hike is just a bit to heavy. How water-resistant is it? I've seen a presentation of a German guy and he said that it's not so good. Which is troublesome because there's a lot of guys successfully testing other tarps (like Polish lavvu, Russian palatka) and these are dry to touch from the inside in a whole day rain

    • @Taromovies
      @Taromovies  Před 2 lety

      Thanks for watching, in my experience the is no difference between them all about water-resistant, the important point is the treatment, I think the production of the NVA Tarps stops over 30 years ago, so it depending from i where you get them, I’ve they are really unused the water-resistance is very good (of course not waterproof), but even if they get wet they will protect you very well from the elements, the problem they all kind of those military cotton tarps have is that they get very very heavy if they are wet, so if you want to have a high level of water resistant i recommend to use some treatment like you use for other textiles, hope that helps a little, all the best, Taro

      @@Taromovies Thanks buddy. I would not touch it with anything else than the original treatment which used to be done with alum and one or two other chemicals. One of them may be vinegar or soap. Vinegar was probably the last bath to stabilize it. Alum is still used in textile industry for colouring fixation. Common chemicals for leather boots dont last. I was thinking about linseed oil but it could make it greasy, heavy and kinda forever dirty. Not to mention the formula for tin pants including wax, vasoline. Imagine carrying this around or wearing it. It would lose its thermal insulation too. Waxed boots tend to be stiff and cold even if they are dry

      Unfortunately the Swiss 'zeltblache' is only 165x165 so the tipi is quite a bit smaller!
      I'be been thinking about the Romanian or Russian plash-palatka, they measure 180x185, according to the descriptions on varusteleka.

    Servus!
    Ich vermute mal, daß Du neben der NVA Zeltbahn auch die Zeltbahn der Bundeswehr hast. Ich würde mich freuen, wenn Du in einem Video mal beide Zeltbahnen gemeinsam vorstellst, beide aufbaust, miteinander vergleichst und uns dann die jeweiligen Vor- und Nachteile beider Zeltbahnen mitteilst. Das würde mich echt sehr freuen.
    Und wenn Du das für mich machen würdest, verspreche ich Dir, Deinen Kanal zu abbonieren. Danke im Voraus und Grüße aus Niederbayern!

      Hallo Ralf, die Zeltstange ist 1.40 Meter hoch, ich habe das polnische Lavvu mal bei einem Freund gesehen und hatte den Eindruck das es kleiner ist, direkt vergleichen konnte ich allerdings noch nicht, LG Taro

      Zu deiner Info: polnisches Lavvu und auch das ungarische sind ALLE gleich hoch. Auch 140 cm. NUR das polnische hat mindestens 3 Größen, die nur in der Breite variieren und so manchmal anders erscheinen.

    With a stove it's the ultimate masturcamping setup.
    That's the real reason tarps are so expensive now. You could buy polish lavvu for $2 in the past. Now they are either gone or for $200 or more for size 3 tent, which is still smaller than this one IMO.
