I’m 65 and as a kid we often used twisted strips of paper bags as rollers. Roll and tie for perfect curls💜

I am in the same age range. In the early 1960's they used to sell a version of that roller made from leather strips with wires inside. My sister had a bag of them-they were easier to sleep on.- better than the alternatives .

I'm not black at all, I've done my genealogy and I'm very German lol, but my mom did the rag curls on me. She would tear old t-shirts into little strips, roll them up in my hair, and tie them closed. I'd wake up the next morning with Shirley Temple hair lol.

I think the Catholic thing is because England in this period had long transitioned into Protestantism, since King Henry VIII and the whole Reformation thing with the Church of England, hence the preference of Protestants instead of Catholics.

They’re exactly right! Also it was illegal for a royal(especially the heir) to be or marry a catholic since the monarch is the head of the Church of England(which is Protestant)
