I love how he drove all the way back to the pits on 3 wheels basically at normal speed, he was powering that car with pure anger
JaffaCakeGecko just Schumacher things...
ImpulsiveRacer really broh just schumacher thing brother....😂😂
Given that he was basically faster than everyone else on that day combined, maybe he could've won that race on three wheels 😅
Just imagine him finishing the race on three wheels in The points. Would've cemented the greatest drive in the history of F1 lol

Can you blame him though?
Not at all

Lewis team would hv uttered just 2 letters PR
Totally lost the championship here.
Thanx Couldhard...
“Let us not forget that David Coulthard in these appalling conditions- OH GOD! MICHAEL SCHUMACHER HITS DAVID COULTHARD AND IS OUT OF THE BELGIAN GRAND PRIX!”
Classic Murray
You're right there Murray.
There was definitely contact between the two cars
Live on french TV (Commentators : Pierre Van Vliet, Jacques Laffite and Jean Louis Moncet) : "Regardez les meilleurs tours des 2 pilotes, Schumacher tourne en... EEAAAAAARRGH ILS SE SONT ACCROCHÉS !!! C'EST FINI !! SCHUMACHER SUR 3 ROUES !!!"
And Schumacher was definitely out.

Jordan's 1-2 is one of the greatest underdog victories in racing history.
Ahh the good old days when you could drive in rain without pointless safety car deployments. And of course with 3 tires and without a rear wing.
Thats why Alonso is leaving.
All the bulls...
Bet he could have still won with just three of he'd been allowed
So it's better now, Alonso on two wheels in Baku
The good old days where the backmarker could just take out the race leader? Sorry, don't sign me up for that shit. Besides, if you're driving with 3 wheels and/or without a rear wing, your best bet is to retire mate. Don't do anything fishy. That was one of the worst starts in F1 history, that start should never happen again with the safety precaution we have today.
@Nanderlizer Nanderlizer I don't know under what or wich rock you came from with that statement of yours.
Between 1990/2003 were pretty damn good.
98/99/2000 Schumacher vs Häkkinen.
2004 was great for a Schumacher fan but still entertaining as a whole.
2005/2006 Schumacher vs Alonso.
Senna/Prost/Villeneuve/Damon hill/Jean Alesi.
So..... Yeah......??????
Remember watching this and being furious - being a Ferrari fan.
Michael had lapped most of the field and was coming up to lap coulthard, it was at this point that Jean todd team principle of ferrari went to Ron Dennis of mclaren and asked for co-operation in Schumacher passing him in the terrible conditions - coulthard was asked to just let Schumacher pass and this caused the incident! Coulthard slowed down to let Schumacher pass but Michael did not know and could not see until it was too late! Michael thought coulthard had deliberately lifted off to take him out as he did not no about it at that time.
It was an unbelievable race due to the start. And I think Micheal even drove back faster on 3 wheels!
After coulthard caused the crash at the start and then the incident with Micheal - mclaren fixed his car up and fitted a new rear wing and sent him back out many laps down - coulthard finished the race and just missed out on the points!
Kalem Gamer okay, I’m not blaming anyone here, just a question because I don’t know. Was the visibility so bad that Schumacher had no idea where Coulthard was ? Could he not at least see the rooster tail and move to the left before hitting? Or what. Just seems like he would have been moving to the outside sooner.
@@SDA7337 - visibility would have been extremely poor in them conditions for the driver behind etc - obviously he knew coulthard was there but did not expect him to lift off on the racing line on the straight and was not expecting to overtake just there either. Unfortunately the chain of events was triggered by ferrari themselves and if you look at the end of the season Michael would have won the championship with this win!
But I guess that's formula 1 - one minute it can be boaring and predictable the next it can turn on its head - German gp 2018 for example!!
no one understood what Coultard was trying to do on that day.... He was never getting anywhere in this race and what he did over there felt nothing like letting the car through... It felt intentional in many ways....
Coulthard said in an Interview it was on purpose.yes he slowed down but didnt move from the fast line
Coulthard destroyed both Mikas and Michaels Race!
"What an unbelievable win". As I listen to those words, I'm like "wow, that vibrant voice makes me feel so emotional". He's just himself, simple. No futile technical descriptions, just an uplifting commentating performance.Thank you Walker for your incredible company throughout those years.
1:37 just look at that guy in gasmask helmet, he stopped red army alone. No words can describe how awesome that man is.
Red army? Ferrari people were trying to stop Schumacher dude.
Murray and Martin's commentary of the first start is pure gold and really sticks in the memory. So ironic that Damon benefitted from Schumacher crashing into someone in this case. 20 years later i like to think Schumacher's Good Year is still orbiting in space. Like the 1999 European GP Belgium 1998 still lives long in my memory.
This is why we love f1. It's more than a sport.
Yep that was then , now it's just a televised business and completely shit .
Paul Thomson then was also a televised business.
Was more than a sport.

Wow, this makes me cry. Remembering what F1 was like 20 years ago.
Belgium 1998 in HD, Nice!!!
This race sums up our beautiful sport. Drama, emotions and greatness. That‘s why we love Formula One!
I can't believe it's been 20 years since i watched that race. Propably the best race of that season along with the Canadian GP. Contrary to the popular belief those seasons had many boring races and races like this one were the exception. Of course there was no social media back in those days for people to complaint about every little thing like they do today. I find F1 much more exciting the last decade but i guess that's just me.
constantine Thank you!!
It's not only you, I think the same, and I started wathing F1 around 2000, don't remember exact season, I was small kid, I knew who were Schumacher brothers in grade school.
Right now way more races are great to watch, but it's strange that Kimi is last the guy in f1 who raced in V10 era, when he will retire Hamilton will be one of the oldest drivers on the grid, that's realy strange.
It was around this time I tuned out from F1. It was so fucking dull almost every race.
british GP 1998 was good to and don't forget the lead change twice for 400 yard Italian GP 1998
It's true that things are more exciting now, Ferrari Schumacher Era was extremely boring to watch.
Anybody here after collision bet max and lewis in Saudi Arabia 2021?
You could mention some more facts about this crash. I also saw it live.
Schumacher saw the spray of course but didnt think that there is a car THAT slow. Schumacher stated that Couldhard shouldnt be on the racing line if hes driving so slow, but still producing that spray, but Couldhard said he did nothing wrong.
However many years later, as Couldhard had mostly the same situation like Schumacher, Couldhard said, that it was a failure to stay on the racing line if the racing opponent cant see you.
Schumacher lapped almost the whole field on this day, just to be fucked up by that. The box entry was also kind of funny, because Schumacher, still driving with 3 wheels, was still in front of Couldhard, who could drive faster than Schumacher now, but Schumacher didnt let him overtake ^^
He was really ultra pissed this day...
if michael had done it to Mc larens, they would have called Michael a cheat...(
Probably thus race ruined Schumacher's championship, that was a gold opportunity no only because overwhelming speed, but Hakkinen's retirement.
@Andrea Toni yes he really paid through the nose for Adelaide 94
It was obviously just a cock up. Coulthard had slowed to let Schumacher past but he shouldn't have stayed on the racing line if he were intending to let him past. It would be far too dangerous to do that deliberately. I never liked Schumacher so I didn't feel very sorry for him, especially after this display but it was a giant bollock up so I can see why he was pissed off.
Coulthard had no rear wing. Car was near impossible to drive

Very Nice! Thank you. Nice color fix,,audio cleanup was spot on. Took us back. Crazy Eddie!,,lol. cracks me every time.
Believe it or not, there was even more drama after the chequered flag. Following Michael's crash, Eddie ordered Ralf and Damon to hold position instead of allowing Ralf to attempt an overtake. When Michael found out about this, he stormed into Eddie's office, and Michael then argued that his brother was being held back under Jordan's leadership, so what did Michael do? He only went and bought Ralf out of his contract! Thus Jordan got a tidy boost of cash and Ralf became a free agent who later joined up with Williams.
That's interesting. Schumacher never had problems being the beneficiary of team orders at Ferrari though.
Interesting tactics being used by Mclaren

Not really tbh

The growling sound of today turbocharger engine is not that different than the one back in the 70s-80s. But I guess you are too young for that, and as a result being too accustomed to screaming banshee of 90s-00s engine.
The golden years of F1 - when my uncles and dad sat together, drank some beer and smoked a pack of cigarettes.
😂😂 Especially the cigarettes, they were everywhere in 90s F1.
Before getting in their cars and starting the race.
You mean they smoked Marlboro?
Wasn’t that golden Schumacher won all the time, it was pretty boring
Jeddah
Im pretty sure Coulthard was trying to stay out of the way and slowed to let him past but oh well ^^
You have to leave the racing line when getting lapped. Slowing down showed he tried to let him past, but he stayed on the racing line.
he was on the racing line
@@TheHunefer Well you do not HAVE TO, but it is usual.
It is totally fine to slow down on the race line in most conditions.
But here in these raining conditions this sure was a mistake.
@@TheHunefer is that some sort of gentleman’s agreement or is it in the regulations?
One of the greatest moments in F1 history. My personal favourite. Couldn't believe it watching this epic race live with everything that happened... Missed the similar Senna/Mansell incident 11 years earlier at this track. So I guess this made up for it.
The best years of Formula 1!
It’s crazy that this was the first formula 1-race I ever saw. Sure, I saw some glimpses when I was younger but not interested. But this was the first time I was really interested after playing the F1-game on Nintendo 64 back in 1997. After this I was stuck for life watching formula 1. Only wish I had started earlier. I was 16 in -97. Glad at least I got to watch Schumacher in his prime!
It was all downhill from there unfortunately. This was peak f1.
Hearing Murray Walker narrate this race just makes this video that much better to be honest.
Those '90s and early 2000s cars are still the best looking ones in the entirety of F1 history my opinion. They feel the most natural to me.
But that's probably also because I grew up with them.
Best times where drivers show emotions and fight...🔥🔥🔥
Keep Fighting Michael!
6 days legt HYPE!
Getting to watch Schumacher race at the Indianapolis USGP in 2003 was one of the biggest honors of my life. I was actually a Montoya fan simply because everyone else seemed to be a fan of Schumacher (I was all about punk rock as a teen so I went against social norms). But I can’t lie; I was there to see Schumacher in living flesh because he was Superman as far as I was concerned. It was hilarious to see Schumacher fans cussing in German and Italian at Montoya fans who were cussing back at them in different dialects of Spanish depending on which part of the world they were from, with some Portuguese thrown in for seasoning. Normally you see a lot of blue and red because crips and bloods want to fight at the mall, but that weekend there was a lot of red, white, blue, green, and yellow throwing them hands. I was saddened to hear about Mike’s ski injury years ago but it sounds like he’s making a comeback of sorts, and I hope he comes back enough to enjoy his retirement with his family instead of being confined to a hospital bed. It’s mind-boggling to think he won almost 20 championships unscathed at 205mph only to be laid low while vacationing on skis :(
The time when f1 had guts. And a engine with amazing sound.
It was his own fault lol
What a race
These videos are great!
The music at the start is perfect!
Leo Goria what’s it called
Vortigan Gaming i have no idea
0:28 That guy in green totally focused on his camera oblivious to the wheel flying towards him.
Shame they didn't mention the fact Jordan did team orders to add a bit of extra information for younger F1 fans.
thats why Ralf was not so happy on the podium
Well it was like the Mercedes team orders in Germany. Jordan had an unlikely 1-2 and seeing the Coulthard-Schumacher shunt they decided to ensure the points (More valuable at the time because less cars got points.). It gave them a big boost in the championship. There was no point having them crash and having 0 points and possibly another team around them take the points.
of course they did. do you want the experienced world champion to lead the team home or do you want them to race in terrible conditions where even micheal Schumacher couldn't see a slowing mclaren in front of him and ploughed into the back of it.
Also at that point ralf was known for taking team mates off.
I'm not usually a fan of team orders but those were the most logical in f1 history
Yup, but when your team didn't score a single point in the first 8/16 races that season and you only had 10 at that point you'd be crazy not to issue team orders, especially when you know Ralf would be desperate to get his first-ever win in F1. Although if I remember right, Michael was pretty ironically upset that EJ would use team orders.
@@brendanwhite1822 they only call team order in the last few laps. Because Damon Hill threatened Eddie Jordan that He and Ralf may crash if he lets Ralf catch him
Most unbelievable race of all time and I think will forever be!
"Ok Ralf, this is a team order you cannot overtake Damon, do you copy... you cannot overtake Damon" and EJ has since become a vigilante against team orders LOL...
I think we can forgive him that one - never won, cars running 1st and 2nd, imagine if they had hit each other? 🙈

To put some context : Schumacher and Hakkinen fight for the title, and it is Hakkinen's team mate who put Schumacher out of race after also causing the race start pile-up, (Hakkinen retired too but not because of that)

What isn't explained in this video was how angry Michael Schumacher was at Eddie Jordan for not letting his brother Ralf win that race. Ralf was quicker all the way through the race, but in order to preserve the 1-2 Ralf was ordered by the team to stay behind Damon.
When "The Michael" heard about this, he immediately went to Eddie to tell him what he "should have done".
Eddie promptly told him to "f*** off."
Well put by Eddie...

Is this the race that Jordan gave team order to prohibit ralf schumacher to overtake Damon Hill?//

Yes after telling Damon to let Ralf pass
yes, and no one should have a problem with it because no one could race that day and ralf was known for shunting his team mates and not being very good at overtaking even in the dry.

Eamon Ahern yeah that Irish anthem thing was annoying 😂
And that, Ladies and Gentlemen, is how Michael lost what could’ve been his 8th championship. Then he would lose 2005 which could’ve been an astounding 9th.
I wonder how things would’ve changed had that happened, that’s what I love about this sport, the sporadic nature of everything
"are you trying too ffffing kill me ? . . "
Including walkers commentary makes it even better
It wasn't Coulthard's fault. Essentially because of the rain Coulthard would have had a hard time seeing Schumacker. Coulthard stuck to the racing line. Schumacker essentially drove into Coulthard.
He lifted the accelerator, slowing down, on the racing line.
The same rain made it hard for Schumi to see Coulthard, by the time he can see DC, DC is already in front him, noticeable slower than anyone could expect.
And then collision.
Exactly, that's what I'm saying
Coulthard did it for the rock
He did it for the people

One of the greatest races i have ever seen. When the sport was still pure. Kinda boring nowadays.
if you want to say that nineties F1 was great (which it was) you shouldn’t use the words “was still”, because nineties F1 was vastly different than the eighties, so “was still” as compared to what? The second most important reason why late nineties F1 seems more exciting is because of the controlled narrative; this is true of NBA and Premier League in the late nineties as well. This is a time when the broadcasts were pushing the envelope with dramatization and the narrative was controlled by the major TV network broadcasting. Narrative matters a lot, it creates characters out of racing drivers, and a viewer can relate more. Nowadays the narrative is very fragmented and the broadcasting is a lot more focused on factual, stylistic, and technical considerations than on narrative. The most important reason why nineties spectator sports were is better is nostalgia.
Imagine saying this when the 2021 season had the Hungary GP, the Imola GP or the Russia GP
@@johnnysecular Well i grew up in the 90s. So for me that was pure vs now.
