  • CCTV has apparently captured the artist Banksy and an accomplice at work in Bristol in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The street art work Phone Lovers was posted on Banksy's website on Monday and discovered on Clement Street earlier.
Hours later, the nearby Broad Plains Boys Club removed the Banksy - believed to be on plywood - with a crowbar.
    Jon Kay reports.

I think Banksy may have actually gifted it too them, How do you know that these people did not help Banksy at some point when he was younger? he might be trying to give back to them.

Banksy's artwork should be for the public to see. It should not be used for personal gain. The purpose of art is to open as many eyes as possible, and the only price to pay is your attention.

it would have been vandalized or stolen by someone else..

i used to enjoy being hated for graffiti and people thinking i was on drugs and some sort of lunatic mentally ill person for doing graffiti. now that its called street art and you have kids from families with real nice lives doing it and it's more acceptable and actually called art now leaves me socially frusterated and in a situation where I need to find a new outlet to piss the world off.

Banksy always works with an accomplice/minder. He was snapped full length and a lot more clearly than this, photographing graffiti in Spitalfields in 2014, by London Dada's Art Axis. The street artist's hubris in turning up to the famous Balloon Girl shredding auction stunt at Sotheby's in 2018 ended up with his accomplice's video of the event momentarily showing Banksy's face in close up. Good on them. I think the last person who would give a shit is Banksy himself. Reminds me of his famous remarks about advertising and that we the people own it, once it is forced upon us in the public domain. He'd be a hypocrite to say his art is any different.
I also remember many years ago in London, I saw one of his fairly average oil painting works in a gallery and scoffed in disbelief at the price. Then I emailed the gallery agent and asked if he's taking the piss. A few days later I got an email from Banksy himself with one word. Yes.

Besides its not the person that's famous, its the name, he's a massive nobody when he's walking down the street going to the shop or whatever, how shit is that? if i did something like that, id want people to know it was me and not hide away cos i think its cool and mysterious because it isn't. whats so good about spray painting some stencil cut outs?

are you handicapped? like seriously? because 1. he is properly one of THE most famous graffiti/street artists in the uk, perhaps the world. 2. he is a smart guy he knows that if he remains anonymous its build as you said the "name" or Brand" and also this way its hard for people to tell if something is an a original peice, also 3. his work could potentially continue after (if it is just one guy) he dies and the "name/brand" would live on.
