I am a writer for over 17 years from Miami I am in MSG 28 crew .. I met Banksy in Miami when he first came to paint wynwood for Basel ... the person I would first meet in this story starts with Ben Eine (an acquaintance of banksy) my first clue and an small entourage of people visiting .. so my crew was contracted to buff the walls for the artists coming to paint for basel in wynwood... we were painting his wall for him when they pulled up .. my crew mate told me that he was a "special person who he could not name but I figure it out" .. they got out of their suv and I shook hands with them and they thanked us for our work we chatted for a bit... what stood out is that when they introduced themselves Ben said "this is my special friend" and we all just smiled.. right there I felt like I was in the presence of a deity .... then when they left my friend said "he is him" .. "now you know"... I was quiet .. I just said thank you to him.... later that week I saw them walking around one night just in the sea of people in wynwood .. nobody knew he was hidden in plain sight .. he was just another face in the crowd (just like me).. but I knew... I just nodded and smiled as I walked by.. and that's what real graffiti writers will do. We are ghosts in the machine... I share my story maybe nobody reads this shit .. but I lived it and Im a real person .. but I will tell you this .. how banksy operates is not how the general public thinks... and still to this day .. I know what he looks like 100% ... but what makes you deserve to know. you aren't one of us... just an outsider looking in .. EDIT: he isnt in this video

Banksy isn't a graffiti guy though. He's a stencil guy, a street artist if you will. He's no writer though

    • @JasonJebezSam

I agree. I sort of respect what he does, but he's not a writer. Its a whole different world out there as a writer hittin tags and throwups. Banksy couldn't do that shit and I couldn't do what he does. Banksy is street art. I am graffiti

Banksy used to tag a lot before he became who we know today. He used to tag with a group, until he found that stencils were faster and easier when he once almost got caught. At that time as well, Bristol was going through some governance/political problems so he used his stencil political work to get the message across. And people around Bristol loved it and use his images during protest. Of course he created his political style that made him popular.

Well... having been around Bristol for years and East London everyone knows Robin Gunningham is Banksy. So much supporting evidence it's undeniable, but never truly revealing his identity keeps the mystique going.

Not a secret on the graff scene, but who's gonna officially admit that they have 'vandalised' ( media term, I think 'improved' is more apt!) All these locations, buildings etc???? I wouldn't!!!

Well the guy that’s in the interview with his face covered that “supposedly banksy” has straight hair the guy in the photograph with the stencils and spray paint that also “supposed to be banksy” has curly hair, and both have different face features from what you could even see in the pictures, definitely NOT the same person.

Stencil art with political takes is boring and all his art works are commodified by the very people he seems to mock which he profits from, not to mention that much of his career is attributed to stealing blek le rats work. There are thousands of people who paint graffiti out of passion alone which outshine him@@owlpelletstew
