Following along with this, makin a lil acid sequence to learn things. Literally sold all my euro to afford one and every day I spend with it I have less regrets. (don't worry there is some money leftover for other things lol)
The sequences at 8:48 might be the most intelligent I've ever heard in a synth demo and I've been listening for over 20 years. Steve Reich and John Adams' influence never sounded so good. The pandiatonic harmonies are as fun as the periodic lines starting at different places in each sequence to give the effect of changing meters with only four sequence slots. And you did it all on a 16-step sequencer x 4.
I think there is only 3 other things I would love the Pro 3 to do. No idea if it's possible but would love for Wavetable number to be a modulation destination and that way you could do wave sequencing with different wavetable for each sequencer step. The other thing is to somehow be able to route each oscillator to a single filter. This would be insane when in sequencer mode as essentially you could have 3 different sequences going, each with their own note, filter, env (using the 2 Aux envelopes). The other is the ability to "arm" the sequencer slots. AS it stands right now, it's changes on the fly when you press them as the sequencer is playing. It would be nice to be able to click "B" and have sequence A play in it's entirety and then switch over to "B" once it completes.
I guess the second one is not possible by design. The first one can be done using wavetable position, but afaik not the wavetable selection itself, which would be really cool. Since sequencer tracks can be used as a modulation source, there are already some pretty neat things that can be done with it. The last one would be cool either, but only if it can be switched on and off.
Julian shhhhooouullld probably mention there isn't any real-time recording (inputting notes) for the step sequencer. I assumed there was, and was bummed when I found out there was no way to yet do this.
I did too but caved and got the standard version. It’s still cheaper than an OB6 module and way more fun imo. There’s something about it’s character and immediacy that just makes you want to keep playing it
@@mortovivo1534 I caved too :) I got to thinking that sequential doesn't seem to do more that two variations of their products. Since there was a standard and SE, I figured a desktop wasn't going to be made. I have the OB-6 module--I think it is worth the cost. OB-6 is in a league of its own.
For whatever reason, it seems that, with the exception of one iteration of the Evolver, Dave Smith / Sequential never makes desktop versions of mono synths. And Dave himself probably only created that one in the throes of his comeback. Man, I wish he could come back. I wish he was still here.
Can you have complex time signatures? I write a lot in 5/4, 7/4, 7/8 and 9/8 mainly and sometimes mixing stuff like 3 bars of 1 time sig followed by a bar of a different time sig before resolving again...?
As on my Subsequent 37, the envelopes loop, but unlike the Moog, you cannot sync the different settings on the envelope to clock. BIG difference in the results. On the Moog you can easily make the looped envelopes "swing". I have both synths, so comparisons are daily!😉😉😎
The whole sequencer thing in this thing s a game changer! There are couple of small things though that are not perfect about it. For example not all knobs can be recorded in sequencer. And the main disappointment for me personally is that Attack and Decay automation doesn't record well - they get stuck at 0 values and are not editable after that. I think after that got fixed the synth will be 100% perfect and the best mono synth ever.
Thinking of replacing my Novation AFX Station with this to pair with my Rev2. Or maybe I'll just keep the AFX Station since it's a collector's edition. 😆🤔
I've owned one since March 2020 and that's really not how I'd characterise the Pro 3. It's an incredibly versatile monosynth that lends itself to a wide range of applications. The great thing about the sequencer is that you can also use it just to sequence modulation rather than notes (with each modulation stream having a different length if you want), giving you constantly shifting sounds and textures as you play. I would agree that if you simply want a monsynth for soloing with simple waveforms in a 70s jazz fusion sort of style then what the Pro 3 offers is overkill, but to suggest that it's just a 'set the sequencer going and twiddle some knobs for 20 minutes' sort of machine is well wide of the mark.
This series is one long advert. And it worked, I've just bought a Pro 3.
And when do you sell it?😉
And so was this comment, only shorter…… see how advertising works ? 🤷🏾♂️
Now we're talking! This is where the power of this machine comes through 👍💯
Or, when we turn it on 👍🏾🫠
we need a in depth episode on controlling Modular ...
My best mono synth everrrrrrr!!!!😎🥳😎🥳😎
Love the Berlin School style patch at the end.

What a great arp and sequencer demo. Thx!

Well articulated comment. I stopped to enjoy reading it twice, ratchet style.
ridiculously good demo

fantastic demo 👌🔈 i love the sequencer and guess there’s no way to not get a pro3 after seeing this 🤩
I'm still torn between the Pro 2 and Pro 3, but the tuned feedback on the Pro 3 might break the tie.
Thanks for an excellent set of videos. I'm wondering if there's a way to change the sequence length of an existing sequence.

System 8
Great demo ! Can you save sequences ? 👍🏼
Is there a chance of getting a video showing how to clock this to ableton or your DAW? or can anyone link me to something that shows this process?
I really want the non-existent Pro-3 desktop module.

It is desktop, with a convenient sized keyboard attached

It really does do virtually everything one could ever want in a subtractive-style mono synth. It's not perfect, but it's the closest I've ever seen.
I agree this thing feels like the ideal mono synth. I don't know of anything I'd change.

@@saxmidimanSequencer lanes can be used as complex clock-synced looping envelopes.
Great workaround, but not the same. Can set these up in clocked increments on the Moog in seconds.@@ToyKeeper
@@saxmidimanYeah, it's not the same... but it's pretty close. A dozen clock-synced automation lanes are a pretty powerful tool.

@@reginaldbraithewaite5833 No, they haven't released any firmware updates yet.

J3PO just had to do it to em
Can it record knob movements to the sequencer?
Did you even watch the video? --> 6:41
Co0L D£mO 🎼🎹
Can you shorten the sequence to play only a few sounds looped short
I think so
It’s a great synth but ratchets in music sound awful along with swing mode
This looks more for the knob twister than an actual keyboard player
Okay, boomer

Nah. It's awesome to play. This is the thing... It's just good at pretty much everything. 💗🤘
Check out his other videos in this series. He definitely shows what a keyboard 'player' can do with this beast!
Here's a little jam of mine playing a very chilled out PRO 3.
