Why is everyone acting like a video analyzing different humor is a personal attack? We all have different tastes in humor, and we all think other people are cringe, and we think k of ourselves as cringe. Who cares? What matters is how you act based upon that. I find this humor not to my taste, and cringe. So anytime I get a video recommendation that has this type of humor, or an Instagram post, I will block the account and move on with my day. However, if I was in the comments of every video, being mean to the person making that content, or anyone who agreed with it, that’s an entirely different story. But for a lot of these comments taking it personally, when she’s just talking about it, says a lot about YOU. If any one of you haven’t ever had the thought to criticize humor you didn’t like, or havent cringed at yourself, or anything, then please, cast the first stone.
It’s bc she used the work pick me which is always used as a derogatory term

Older Gen Z here (Born in the late 90s). From what I can tell, Gen Z mocking Millenials for being "Cringe" demonstrates a lack of self-awareness on their part. EVERY Generation is Cringe in one way or another. It's just a part of being human. We all do cringy stuff, especially in our youth. Gen Z mocked our parents Gen X for being cringe and Gen X did the same to their parents the Baby Boomers. I can guarantee whatever Generation comes after Gen Alpha is going to mock Gen Z for crap like Tik Tok Dances and this whole Stanley Cup obsession. It's just a cyclical part of life.
I'm a millennial, and I think the Stanley cup thing is way too much. It's just the life cycle to think older people are weird
Sorry, but that statement is cringe, and cometely tone deaf. Once again, you speak of Gen X without ANY FACTS!!
First of all, Gen X didn't really raise anybody. They are less than 15% of the population. Furthermore, 80% are childless!! The housing and job problems you're whining about only now were the reasons. We were too poor and traumatized to reproduce!!!
Furthermore, over half of GenX was raised by at least one Silent Generation Parent. The majority of the Millenials were actually raised by Boomers.
Gen Alpha is Stanley cup obsessed as well.
Who generalizes an ENTIRE generation😂😂😂😂
the stanely cup obsession is by the gen alpha.
As a millenial, I found King Bach, Lilly Singh, Liza Koshy, Lele Pons especially and other popular creators that time cringy and not funny even back then. So I guess it depends more on each individual's sense of humor and not on generation
I did too. They weren't making content for us. It was for Gen Z.
I HATED that type of humor. Weirdly enough most of them emerged around the time when Vine was around which tiktok was once very similar to.
I’m 31 and never even heard of them lol
Yes! Their content is so annoying. I couldn't believe they actually had so many followers.
Excellent point. I'm a younger millennial and honestly hated their content 😅
My sister is a millennial and i'm a gen-z. The fun fact is we both feel our generation is hella cringe and consist of a lot of "wanna be adults".

Yeah I remember people talking about how annoying that obnoxious humour was back then and it was understood millenials were doing that to appeal to kids, not their peers
Umm that is a COMPLETE lie. Millennials most def watched Liza…I’m one of them. Gen z was not a thought sorry y’all was still young af when Liza was at her prime prime & her audience is definitely millennials just like she is. Being silly is not something that automatically means they trying to attract super young kids as a audience
To me, this screams of people being too chronically online, to that point that they spend time making fun of others. THAT’s cringy to me 😭
Oh my god thank youuuu most of these “millennial cringe” videos are just people being happy😭😭 so glad you understand

I think the point is that Millennials online are stuck in the past content wise and Gen Z make fun of that… Every generation before us is also stuck in the past and we made fun of them. Everyone gets a turn to be lame lol if you can’t laugh at yourself and move on then it becomes a problem.

Millennials can’t catch a break. This generation had experienced 911, the O8’ recession, housing crisis and pandemic. All while being the first to share our experiences online. Not everyone is cringey but the storyline of everyone acting that they’re better than is really exhausting.
The thing about generation wars is that it’s a cyclical. Soon it’ll be Gen-Z’s turn 🤷🏻♀️
i mean its the truth 🤷♀️
Couldn’t had said it better myself 😂
I agree with the generations, they make no sense except another way to loop a group of people together in a wider general way. A 13 year old is not going to have the same experience in their life that a 26 year old 13 years for gen z
Damn near 30 years for millennials and then another almost 30 years or more for gen x makes no sense
Nah, because millennials have been insulted since the 90s. Some Boomers don't know the difference between millennials and Gen Z and use the word "millennial" to mean "young and stupid" not even understanding that some of us millennials are in our 40s with grandkids. We get dragged by the elders and the kids. At least Gen X was the forgotten generation. Nobody bothers them.
@themanifestorsmind Exactly. My reply to this comment didn’t get posted, but I feel the same. The older generations try to drag us, and some Gen Z people decided they wanted to join in and wonder why we are ready to buck. 😆 The generalizations are ridiculous, especially when it comes from Gen Z who I feel like picked up some of the worst millennial stereotypes and amplified them.
As a millennial I didn’t watch any of these creators or gravitate to that type of humor. So it’s mind blowing how Gen Z loves to make fun of our generation and put everyone in a box when all these clips I’m like I have never watched this stuff or recreated it. My problem is Gen Z acts like what they’re doing on the internet now won’t be scrutinized by younger generations. I can’t wait to see it. lol

@@corncobbob2326 no I agree with you! I’d do anything to relive those times again. just pointing out the hypocrisy with the side of gen z that hates on millennials so much yet raves about the 2010’s. 2010’s were shaped by millennials 😭

@@kataraluver that’s not the consensus from what im seeing. it’s gen z wanting to be party age in the 2010’s and I feel the same but the 2010’s was so great because of millennials, so I don’t understand why they are such haters. I could name a lot more embarrassing things gen z does than millennial “cringe”
i feel like majority of millennials are not represented well on media because out of those who are constantly online, majority are “pick me” or “gentle” parents, however a lot of millennials who are too busy working jobs or raising kids get misrepresented since they are not online to defend themselves or they do not post content

As someone born in ‘96 on the cusp (makes me a Zillennial I guess?), I definitely can admit that some millennials are try hard pick-me’s, but it kinda baffles me how Gen Z calls out Millennials for being cringey & unhinged because it very much gives pot meet kettle. And this is coming from someone that was born as a tail-end Millennial but grew up more in the Gen Z era. Even though Gen Z culture is more familiar & relatable to me, one thing I noticed is that they actually lack a lot of self awareness and embodied the same, if not more, cringe with their own habits & millennial mocking lol. Plus a good chunk of gen alpha’s problematic parents are also Gen X, not just millennials 🫠
Yes!! I’m also a Zillennial (98 here) and I agree. I found the “random XD” humor so funny back in the day. But because I was in middle school when that was at it’s peak, high school was when I started seeing the shift into other humor and grew into a more gen z based humor in my late teens and early 20s. I feel like a shapeshifter or something. Whether I’m around millenials or younger gen z I can understand both so well and blend into them. Being a zillenial has its drawbacks (everyone assuming you don’t know what a CD is and treating you like you grew up with an iPad in your hands) but it also has its advantages
92 baby millennial here and I absolutely agree especially about the parents of the gen alpha in school right now. I was so confused about all of the videos putting down millennial parents because I’m like I just had my first baby and all of my friends also just had their first babies between 2020 and now and I realized the parents they’re recurring to are likely X and 80’s millennials. But that just goes to show that you can’t just put blame on a single generation when ppl are having babies at different times in their lives. I know a gen z who had her first baby at 20 or even Kylie who had her baby at what 19/20 those babies are alpha and she’s not millennial so the specific generation blame game is flawed. But all of this divide between the generations is a lot. I honestly don’t remember it being like this years ago so I wonder what’s sparked the debate.
@@Sideshowbrooke Definitely agree!! I feel like Millennials(but specifically Zilliennials) are the most adaptable generation there is. We had some sense of normalcy during our childhood but the world advanced before our very eyes when it comes to technology & social media during our teenage & young adult years. I relate to characteristics of both gens seamlessly even though sometimes I feel like both sides almost dismiss or ignore us completely. But I guess there’s strength in being a chameleon 🤷🏽♀️😅
@@Iheartyt5596 Exactly! I knew some girls a few years younger than me back in high school that were having babies. They are Gen Z and their babies would definitely be Gen alpha. I know a 45 yr old Gen X with a 13 yr old, so idk when the blame was solely pinned on Millennials when the oldest are barely past 40 and some have kids, but some don’t. I also noticed this trend of other generations blaming Millennials for pretty much everything and it’s getting weird. Especially after the pandemic 🤔
Nah girl you are millennials... Zelenials has nothing to do with birth years it's more about identification.

Millennials are not the most “self absorbed” generation. That title goes to our parents the boomers, who had life much more easy than their parents in the silent generation of the Great Depression. They pushed consumerism and excess wealth to the extreme at the expense of their own children and grandchildren. Most millennials didn’t start having children until late 20’s early 30’s because we can’t afford them. And as far as gen alpha not being able to read, again not us. The American education system changed from phonics to sight words aka memorization PRIOR to the gen alpha existing. I know this as I was looked at as crazy when my daughter started kindergarten this year and I said I don’t do sight words at home. They said she didn’t know enough sight words to be placed 😢in 1st grade as I homeschooled her for a year because of a late birthday. Now fast forward to quarter 3 of the school year and she is ABOVE grade level in reading BECAUSE I do phonics and breaking down words instead of memorizing words or looking at pictures to guess the words. Gen Z needs to pump the breaks on Millennials cause they have a good 3 years before the Alpha’s start calling them cringe as the eldest Zer’s start to hit 30 and become “old”.
The conversation around Millennial media is fascinating. I'm a millennial, 34 and my daughter recently asked me why all "popular people" are mean. I was so confused and said if all popular people were mean then why would they be popular? She said,"I dont know movies and shows always show them as mean. The popular girls in my class are really smart and kind."
Then I realized that all of the media I consumed as a yound person always depicted popular people as mean, dumb jocks who were more often than not rich. I can't speak for everyone's experience, only my own, but the popular kids in my school were smart, kind, attractive(of course) and athletic. They also went on to have successful lives and so far successful families. The most important thing that we can remember and pass on to the younger generations is to be kind, kindness transcends. 😁
Cool perspective. I'm glad to know her classmates are sweet & kind. That's a good start
Mine too. I'm almost 36
I'm an older genZ the popular girls in my class were the typical mean and rich girls (BUT there was not much bullying going on which is great), they were just kind of mean spirited and in clicks. So I don't think it's a millenial thing.
yeah no most popular kids in school are very rich, privileged, and treat everyone else like the ground they walk on. good your experience wasn’t like that but your experience wasn’t normal
@@illicitveniceb Tbh I feel like it’s more normal for the popular people to just be athletes and nice. Rich people don’t rlly go to public schools, and the schools in rich neighborhoods are not the majority
I’m a millennial.. born in 1990. And I agree, we CAN be annoying. 😭 What generation doesn’t have its flaws? And I bet the term “pick me” is a term that was probably created by Gen Z. Just because you don’t wear makeup or like sports doesn’t mean you’re a pick me.
A person is not a pick me if they don’t wear makeup or like sports. A person is a pick me if they constantly say that to “distance” themselves from other girls for men’s approval.
@taissavallery9456 and even then it's a slippery slope. If makeup comes up in conversation and you say you don't wear makeup, then someone inevitably labels you a pick me. You haven't said anything about other women, only that you personally don't do xyz.
@taissavallery9456 clear is kind, TY. I think some women are feeling shame, because they realize they may have had insecure behaviors. Process it to guilt, learn, forgive yourself, be authentic, practice gratitude, and move on. We all got this. - Millennial 💚🩷🩵😇🥰 of course
Pick Me is an AAVE term and was a phrase long before social media and the internet in general.
@@elle.roiproductionsthank you! I’m 23 we’ve been saying this since I was in 5th grade. Not that that’s when it originated but it’s BEEN around
It’s so ironic how Gen Z thinks millennials are the most self absorbed of the generations…they literally post what are essentially diary entries on the internet like they are pieces of art and think that they are actually discussing or bringing awareness to such PROFOUND topics…all the while every other generation is watching thinking, “uhhhh that’s literally what every generation before you has said about other generations…yours is just set to a bad sound bite”. Such a lack of self awareness.
This!!!! Lol
Don’t worry Gen Z, Gen Alpha will be complaining about you guys before you know it.
We know and we dont care 😭 Ive seen many Gen Z tiktoks making fun of the fact Gen Alpha will make fun of them in the future
I think it's healthy to call out some bad behaviors that are quite common in certain generations. Like the way some millennials are raising their kids, the obsessions of some of the GenZ with aging, and all the awful things Gen Alpha is already learning because they are chronically online. I personally try to absorb the criticism and be better and of course, laugh at myself and my own generation. But I think some people get a little too offended and take this criticism too much into their hearts. I think it's completely fair and funny when the younger generations make fun of us for being cringe and not liking our humor. Young people always do that, and we did/do this to boomers. I just think sometimes the criticism of older generations can get a little unfair. There was a time (in the late 00s) when boomers were accusing Millenials of wasting too much money on Starbucks and avocado toast and according to them that's the reason we can afford to have a house and a car. That's just stupid and obviously completely untrue.
Lastly to call Millennials the ultimate pick me is insane considering the conversation of the generation after looking a lot older is because of the stress of chasing perception, fame, numbers and everything else trying to be accepted and included. Yall are bringing back things that were gone for a reason
💯💯💯💯

Hi there! I'm a Black millennial. I think we need to be really specific about what we're talking about when discussing generations. I lot of the time the decades are told through a white lens, leaving out the experiences of different ethnic groups.... because this is not my experience as a Black millennial. I feel that this video is discussing a specific white, chronically online millennial. The comedy that we grew up on was a lot of sketch comedy (In Living Color, SNL, Mad TV, All That, Amanda Show, and Chappelle Show), but idk what that has to do with being a pick me. A lot of the media you featured was mostly white people . Is Liza Koshy even a millennial?? She was born in 96, and I don't listen to Taylor Swift nor have I seen most of those shows/movies. We watched Fresh Prince, Martin, Moesha, One on One, ATL, Bring it On ... I mean its too much to even mention lol. We listened to 90s/00s R&B and Rap (TLC, Trina, Ashanti to name a few). Also how can you not mention Beyonce???? She makes the ultimate pick me music lol.
Last thing.... that pick me trope has been a trope for decades. Its not just a millennial thing. It is something that movies from 90s/00s repeated from earlier movies. I mean... it was Boomers and Gen X telling us to get married and stuff. I feel like Millennials and Xennials were the ones that championed a lot of independence but I could be wrong 🤷🏾♀
Hey, yes I can see A few of your points. However, in terms of comedy, I was speaking on content creation and social media skits. Most of the stars back then, and even now were white hence why I put mostly white people on there when I was explaining the type of comedy.

The generation wars display so much division and negative opinions about each other. I am a black millennial who loves and dislikes certain parts of my generation. I truly think parts of Gen Z’s generation is problematic as well but I also admire other parts. To me understanding and unity amongst each generation always wins.
So from a millennials perspective I think we could seem self absorbed by previous generations because we are the first generation that has decided to live life as we want (not having families early, not going in to forced career paths, etc.). Also, millennials didn’t invent the selfie, this photo style has been seen as early as the 1800s. Some of the content shown in the video I think could be considered cringe but it also was a very specific demographic of millennial who consumed and made this content, not all and arguably not even the majority. I find the subject of pickme interesting bc 1. Is Kendall Jenner a millennial (since she was in a lot of the reference)? and 2. We didn’t consume just content like mean girls there was also the era of the independent woman especially through music I.e. Webbie’s “Independent”, Neyo’s “miss independent”, Drake’s “Fancy”, Destiny’s Child “independent woman” to name just a few. Growing up with Trina was the opposite of pick me 😂
Millennials definitely popularized and made the term “selfie” a thing. That was not happening in the 1800s. Yess I’m sure there was one taken prior, but it wasn’t coined “selfie”
@@ToniBryanneTV We might have made the term to describe the action, but the act of taking pictures of oneself has always existed especially at the dawn of new inventions. When Millennials became of age, the first camera phone was invented which is why Millennials took interest in capturing themselves. This was similar to when the camera was popularized in the 1800s. People started taking pictures of themselves more and more because it was a novelty.
Yup, there's a demographic of kids prior to millennials that were doing selfie pics with disposable cameras and there was the polaroid that made on the spot self photos extremely popular. Time magazine has a pretty iconic cover showing a bunch of GenX kids holding camcorders as that generation was heavily criticized for being self absorbed because teens were making video selfies and recording everything (despite people in general just getting excited and popularizing new technology regardless of the generation).
@@ToniBryanneTV so does the act of taking a photo of oneself or the term of taking a photo of oneself make a whole generation self absorbed? Like are millennials self absorbed because they coined the term “selfie” or because they took pictures of themselves (like people had been doing as early as the 1800s)?
You're right. My mom has an old military photo of my grandfather taking a bathroom selfie with his Polaroid camera back in the 50s. 😂
The younger generation always thinks the older ones are cringe... it's just inevitable.
I'm a millennial, and I thought the actual millennials were cringe.
RIGHT. Like...can we make this individual and not generational ...cause folk are annoying cross age....baby boomers, millienials ...gen zers, xers..... Let's be honest here....😂
Yep. The generational pick mes my age (GenX) run around belittling older folks for pointing out our differences, basically telling young people to not care what older people think. But they failed to ever include the fact that while elders say this every generation, you will grow up to be the older people one day, and by evolution, the human development stage of middle age hits almost everyone. It's our job to be cranky. Youth's job is to push boundaries. Elder job is to use hindsight to nudge the babies back inside those lines too close to cliffs. Elders have been usurped from that job and now all the loose lambs are falling off cliffs, eaten by wolves, joining wild dog packs, forgetting how to be lambs and sheep.
I tried telling M's 10yrs ago the next group will not like them, but they didnt want to hear it. I tried telling them theyll be the bad guys one day, didnt want to hear it.

I'm an American and this shit is not on my side of the internet either 😂
This must be about yt millennials or something cause I can't relate, AT ALL!!!
Just some observations: I'm an (elder) millennial professor who started out teaching younger millennials and now teaching the current Zoomers - mostly computer science/AI subjects. I also see a lot of Gen Z bullying their professors (both IRL and Online) due to a sense of entitlement that I have seen quite a lot in Boomers.
My point is I've been watching the evolution of how different phases of the generation have interacted with social media and technology in general. Millennials created the social media that Gen Z have capitalised on in ways we were not empowered to do at the time. When facebook started, it was only available to certain universities, so our interactions were largely constrained to our friend groups. Before facebook, we just had myspace and early internet meme videos. It was kind of more of a chill time in many ways because the pressure to post our entire lives wasn't there. Because we didn't grow up with tech in the same way gen Z - it's hard to understand what Gen Z feels in terms of the pressure they feel when they're online. Millennials as a generation "coming of age online" took on more a cynical, self deprecating humour that Gen Z seem to find cringe and offensive, whereas alot of elder Millennials find the current obsession with online image that Zoomers have very disturbing and concerning. I read somewhere that millennials had to "climb through myspace and facebook so that Gen Z could thrive on Tik Tok." Who knows what Alpha will bring! This is ultimately the result of late stage capitalism rotting our minds and causing these battles. I just wish that my Gen Z students would understand that millennials are not trying to be "pick mes" we're just trying to survive basically everything we have gone through since 9/11 (**see financial crisis etc). Most of us are debt ridden and burned out from interacting with neoliberal societies under the guise of "freedom". Have a good day!
I think Gen Z was very privileged where they grew up in a time where there wasn't as much of an expectation to "be like other girls". Whereas many Millennials actually grew up before the dawn of the internet age where there weren't online communities to run to where you could be yourself. It's a sign of progress and privilege that Gen Z can look back at old movies portraying Millennials and be like "what?". Gen Z has never had to worry about fitting the mold the way previous generations have had to. Whereas Gen Z might find it easier to make other girl friends that play video games like they do and watch anime, when Millennials were growing up you were considered a lame or a loser and other girls would bully you for it. This is why you see the "not like other girls" tropes. Some of it was exaggerated in the movies, but some of it many Millennials related to because if you weren't like everyone else, you were ostracized. Even your own family would make fun of you. At least this was my experience in school. This especially happened if you were black in a school with other black girls whose interests was by and large definitely not video games and anime back then. Gen Z also had the hang loose parents (Gen X) and gentle parenting that allowed them to express themselves in ways boomer parents would have NEVER allowed for Millennials.
I find this to be incredibly false. Gen Z and Gen Alpha are literally living in the time where social media is everything. Everything is curated, everything is filtered, and everyone has to live up to society pressures. Every generation has its issues but let’s not minimize one’s experience in order to highlight another.
@@ToniBryanneTV I'm specifically talking about the narrowness of one's social world pre-internet and why that led to the "pick me" or "not like other girls". You'd only have to look back in time to see how women were treated in comparison to today pre Me too and pre 2010s feminism. Never did I say that Gen Z doesn't have issues. Sure, the internet gives Gen Z it's own share of issues. Even Millennials are subject to that because we also live in the digital age now. Let's not get that twisted. But one thing that the internet has done is 1. Given younger generations a platform to speak about issues where those things would have been more gatekept by men in power of the media when we were younger. 2. Given them opportunities to find communities from all around the world and gather a following to rally behind ideas 3. Allows you to access information that many in the past would have had to seek out more formally or be taught it in school if possible.
Every generation that follows usually does have SOME more privileges than the last due to advancement. It doesn't mean it won't have it's own share of issues. Both can be true. As we get older, we start to see where we were privileged and how others have actually paved the way for many to be able to do the things they could do. There are many that had to bend over backwards in our day to get on tv just to speak a little about feminism compared to the opportunity to have the platform you have now. We had to do a lot more sucking up. And plenty were ready to exploit our desperate need to speak as well. Whereas you can be more independent in making content and there are plenty of places and options to express your opinion online.
We get berated for being "pick me" but if you lived in a day and age where youtube or social media did not exist and your opinions about things could only be through a network company of men in power with a lot more censorship than you will ever see online today of women, poc, and LGBTQ+ people, you would have no choice but to try to please white men just to get ahead or survive and our parents encouraged that exploitation. Harsh parenting was not considered abuse of power. Even to get a job, there was no "working from home" internet jobs that paid enough to get by. And they would OPENLY discriminate against women for certain jobs. I'll never forget a hiring ad said "men preferred" for a kitchen job. Even acting jobs used to openly say "white preferred". There wasn't this greater understanding that diversity of thoughts and ideas are important. It wasn't in the consciousness. If Black Panther came out in the 90s and 2000s the majority of the cast would have been white with one female love interest that is played by a white woman. Gen Z by and large will not have to experience that same level of discrimination. It is what it is. Gen Z likes to make fun of us, but a lot of them are not understanding why these things existed in the first place because they are not experiencing what we experienced (which is actually a good sign that some progress has been made). If you can look back at former generations and wonder why they act the way they do, that is usually a sign that you no longer have to.
@@ToniBryanneTV Hear them out - Growing up in the late 90's / early 00's exposed a lot of us girlies to a lot of weird systemic misogyny that just isn't around anymore. Being feminine was a bad thing. Liking pink and dresses and pop music and makeup was mocked. We were subtly taught to seek out approval of boys, and that girls were competition. We didn't know about gender as a spectrum and feminism was a dirty word (I was embarrassed to identify as a feminist until I was like 22). The world sucks so much now, in so many ways, but when we're laughing at millennials, especially feminine millennials for being "pick-me's", understand that it's coming from a place of embedded insecurity and de-valuing our own gender. Young folks today are fortunate in a way for having more exposure to feminism, gender equity and freedom of expression / identity. It's still a work in progress, but miles ahead of what it was just a couple of decades ago

I'm confused. How is a woman being who she truly is being a pick-me? I understand how it would be pick-me behavior if the woman changes who she is to get approval from men, but I don't think that just naturally being that way is.
I think she means that a pick-me is someone that intends to put other girls down to make herself appear more “authentic” or “unique”, therefore more favorable to men by comparing herself to other women either directly or indirectly

As a millenial and high school art teacher, I can say media and film makers who market their stuff towards teens don't realize the responsibility they play in shaping cultures and how kids choose to socialize. I even find myself sometimes looking back at movies I used to watch and using those as a blue print for how high school and school should be. I would love to see more nuance in characters instead of jock, artist, bully stereotypes. Absolutely not a pick me, just teenagers are already trying so hard to figure out where they fit in and now we are creating all these extra rules of how to be and not to be. And don't even get me started on the most toxic thing I hear highschoolers/gen alfa say: "nobody likes a snitch." I am THAT teacher who pauses class and will get on my high horse and talk about how snitching about something could possibly change somebodies life for the better and is not always a negative thing. (We literally have an anonymous speak up app too, like c'mon) Also the kids are just as cringy as my the "rawr" generation! They have their moments!
I think one Netflix show Ive seen recently that deviates from the typical high school character tropes/social hierarchy is Ginny & Georgia. Definitely worth checking out if you haven't watched!
The term is thrown around so much now, that you can't even express an opinion or interest publically that varies from what's conventional, traditional or considered a gender trait for your own biological sex or gender without being attacked and usually it's by other women. Some of the examples shown, even support my point. Simply stating your interest or considering yourself "nerdy" or "geeky", is not putting down other women or females in order to obtain attention from males (as stating in the definition). It's literally just expressing your interests and a lot of the time, how it is different from other people's lives, expectations or how people would perceive you due to your career path or family and nothing more. I see people getting attacked that don't deserve it at all, all because they have stated publically on their platform that they like comics or playing sports and they are finding it hard to form connections (which I completely understand). If someone is truly bringing women down to try and lift themselves up in order to solely gain attention from men, then sure, call their bullshit out but people (especially women) need to stop attacking women just for sharing their interests, because that is incredible couter-productive and really, makes them no better than an actual "pick me".
Agree!
Gen Z are criticizing millenial women for being pick me's and NLOGs, while they themselves are doing a much more horrible thing - reinforcing gender stereotypes. I mean, Jen Z literally gave us the tradwife trend and the redpiller craze.
I think something that doesn’t get discussed a lot about the early 2000’s is how women who weren’t traditionally feminine or didn’t have feminine interests were ostracized in many ways and made to feel like outcasts.
I think this whole pick me thing started because they wanted to feel ok with themselves and that they didn’t have to be like everyone else in order to be valid, but unfortunately it turned into them putting other girls down in order to feel superior because they were insecure about themselves.
It’s kind of like the bullied becoming the bully situation.
I mean, feminine girls got bullied too. femininity is seen as weak.

All generations are cringy, millenials arent any worst than Gen Z. In my opinion the genz age range is worst in a lot of ways, the self righteousness , the way people act on social media, constant judging, etc. so I find it ironic for a gen z to say millenials are self righteous, cringe etc etc since this generation is even more over the top than the past one in a lot of ways, Gen Z is always criticizing something as if we're the smarter , funnier , more self aware group. I think there's a pattern of every group saying the previous was "the worst". Young adults always talk about the past generations before them, even if it's not true. Just like the older generation talk about how different the younger one's are. Nothing new.
I am a millennial …. This is really sad… not all of us are like this. The millennials being talked about are the ones whom are stuck in their second childhood.. their adult transition didn’t go to well and it shows 👀
Damn, I guess the kids still aren’t going outside. Gen z clearly spent too much time online. I had to skip through some of those GenZ videos because they were really annoying.
So what if I actually do like watching basketball and eating steak with my friends? Does that automatically make me a pick me? If so, oh well. I would rather be that than someone sitting online and making up new terms to attempt bullying people because when you boil all of this down, that’s all it is.
Making a video that's trying to humiliate people who like different things than you/grew up in a different era of entertainment is probably the most unoriginal, uninspired, and un-self-aware form of content making I've seen in a long time. I was telling my mom a few weeks ago that technology and trends are so fast paced now compared to the 1900’s that even a 5 year age difference can really impact how you relate to someone. Trends were consistent by the decade before (60s, 70s, 80s, 90s). Now how people speak, dress, etc. is A LOT different in 2010 vs 2019. We’re not even listening to the same music artists now that we were in 2020 (aside from the big mainstream artists like Drake).
It's like damn if we do, damned if we Dont. Millennials and Gen Z are both pretty cringe, social media & content creation in general can oftentimes be very cringe, regardless of the generational humor… as far as being pick me’s, both display this mentality and I think it’s largely due to socialization and what we see in television, film, and media, much of it has to do with our capitalist society and fostering a competitive climate that divides people more so than it unites them. Millennials had Vine, Gen Z has TikTok which is also mega cringe, so the cycle continues. We usually see older generations hating on younger generations, but why do we see a reversal between Millennials and Gen Z? Millennials have plenty of ammo when it comes to mocking Gen Z, but don’t seem interested in perpetuating the hate, makes me wonder why Gen Z is so hateful when they are every bit as cringe lol. i feel that the people that are chronically online not even talking about ages here, just scream for attention, they do anything for likes and views . they do trends they don't really like just to feel that they are part of something .. well i feel that's the cringe , no individuality or anything they just follow what others do. just weird to me.
If millennials are so cringe why is Gen Z copying everything we do Gen Z is the most unoriginal group ever
As a zillennial (born in 98) I experienced both the “random XD” humor in my middle school years and also was young enough to catch on to the humor of Gen Z. I do find myself cringing at the millennial humor, but I always chalked it up to cringing at middle school me and how awkward I was lol. Younger gen z just had to be there to see the chokehold that this humor had on the youth I guess
Lol thank you for the Fred clips! A fun memory :)
Ok but every old video you showed, idk if it’s just nostalgia but you had me DOUBLED OVER… the new millennial tik toks will never hit like the vines did😭
I used to take my glasses off in school cuz we were always told that they were ugly and made you look nerdy
Gen Z is the most critical generation. Criticism screams low self-esteem. It’s funny how the criticism coming from them sounds like “pick-me” rhetoric. “We’re not like the others”, “everyone likes the same things but I like different things”, etc., the pot calling the kettle black 😂
Why are y’all obsessed with us
Hating on other generations is very pick me
"Gen Zers are making fun of millenials and heres how Millenials are pick me's"
"Dont come for me Im just a messenger"

She is just saying the reasons why it has become a trend not that they actually are.
