My husband's grandmother once told me that cleaning and maintaining their home was her job (she was a stay at home mom, like me) and she decided early in her marriage that she would complete her job during the work week, just like her husband did. Weekends were for family time and visiting friends. For all the cleaning routines and schedules she had implemented, she promised herself that if her husband came home and said lets go to XYZ, she would lay down her cleaning tools and walk out the door. Cleaning and maintaining her home would never get in the way of spending time with those she loved. The sticky floors would still be there tomorrow.

My dad loved going fishing, and very early on mum decided that if she wanted to be with dad, she would have to go with him. They had a lovely hobby together for decades. This was possible, because grandma was in the same household and was babysitting. This was in the distant past! Good old days!

I decided a long time ago that we were not allowed to clean on Saturday and Sunday. So Friday was called Fast and Furious Friday because we got everything done that we needed to get done. The only chores we had to do on Saturday was to take out the dogs. We have done this for almost 20 years.

Love it! Saturdays in my youth were eaten up by all-day housecleaning. I remember it was never clean enough and we were all exhausted by the end of the day. Because of that, I leaned to HATE housecleaning and as an adult, I struggle with cleaning house. I also want to teach my kids how to clean without hating it so we do a weekly "power hour". When the timer stops, so do we and "good enough" is great 👍

Yes! My top tips for making the biggest difference:
    1) Clean all dishes after each meal and wipe any counters that were used. If you’re cooking, clean dishes as you cook when you have moments here and there so there’s not a bunch at the end.
    2) Trash only goes directly into a can. If I’m watching TV, I’ll set my dishes and trash beside me and then the next time I get up, dishes get washed (takes two minutes) and trash goes in the garbage.
    3) When the garbage is full, that’s when you pull it out, put it in the outside garbage and replace the bag.
    4) Dirty clothes go in the hamper, NOT on the floor! It literally takes the same amount of energy to toss them in the hamper. When there’s enough for a load of laundry, I run a load. I’ve gotten lazier with folding. I hang shirts, fold pants, and then bras, socks and undies just get put in their drawer section without folding.
    5) I use a stick vac to do little vacuums here and there as needed, but I only dust, vacuum and mop once every two weeks. Now I don’t have kids so a family with kids may need to do more than that.
    6) I change my bathroom hand towel daily and use the old one to wipe off the sink and then the toilet tank before it goes in the hamper. Just keeps the dust away so then I can do a deep clean of sink and toilet once a week without a bunch of dust.
    7) I keep a Magic Eraser in the shower and every few days I’ll wipe the walls down while I’m in the shower (the Magic Erasers work much better with running water) and I’ll use my foot to use it to clean the tub floor so I don’t have to bend over. Takes three minutes tops for the whole thing and barely any energy because there’s no build up to sit there and scrub.
These really are simple habits and once you get into them, you’ll save so much time and energy (mental, physical AND emotional energy!). This takes care of dishes/counters, clothes, trash, sink/toilet, shower, dusting and floors.

    • @xradelox
      @xradelox Před 2 měsíci +7

@RC: Absolute game changer! Using chemicals while you’re in the shower is so bad for you because you’re naked and your skin is absorbing all that terrible stuff and you’re breathing it in… but IN the shower is the easiest time to clean it! So the Magic Eraser solves that problem! It’s not chemicals so there’s no danger to you.
      A few side notes:
Be careful on shower floors that are really textured because rubbing the eraser over that will shred the eraser. So do all the smooth surfaces with the eraser and then do the textured part with a brush. But if it’s a lighter texture or all smooth, no worries.
Keep the surface wet (which is very easy while you’re taking a shower) and use circular motions and you’ll feel “snagging” when there’s still soap scum but once it’s clean you’ll immediately feel the eraser slide slickly over the surface.
Be careful when using your feet to move the eraser around the drain because it’s very easy to slide your toes right into the hard plug and hurt yourself! I learned that one the hard way!
You can either do the whole shower twice a week or so, or you can do one section each day and rotate them: spout wall, side wall, back wall, tub walls, tub floor. Takes like 30-60 seconds doing just one section.
The first time you do it may require some decent scrubbing if you haven’t really cleaned the shower recently. But frequency equals ease of cleaning.
Get the name brand Magic Eraser. I’ve tried many store brands and they just don’t hold up like the Mr. Clean one. I’m all for store brands when they work.

My mom (4 kids) worked about 50 hours per week outside the home and was super involved in church. Our home “magically” stayed clean!! I realize NOW… she MUST have stayed up late and gotten up early… for everything to function. She occasionally had someone to come in and do deep cleaning, but our home was always tidy. I felt like SUCH a failure as an adult, wife, and mother FOR YEARS…
I’m now in my fifties and have learned to do about 30 minutes of daily tasks and have DRASTICALLY reduced my inventory!! Be glad you discovered the “secret” while you’re still young. Love your videos!!

As a solitary creature, I quickly realized that if I wanted to maintain order, I needed to be consistent every step of the way. I never had a riot because I never let it happen. For example, if I eat, I wash the dishes immediately after eating. If I spill something, I clean it up. If I break something, I'll fix it or just throw it away and buy a replacement. Every thing in my house has its own place, and I know exactly where it is. It sounds boring, but I've been living this way for over fifteen years and have never done a massive "half-day" routine, instead I do it through a series of small, repeating actions throughout my regular day.

Once I told them they literally stated how canned food canmt get spoiled - so I was glad I could double down on that lol.

its much easier to be mindful of how much mess you make doing things around the house. But people don't clean up the mess right away and wait until later. for example, spilling some crumbs on the floor when they eat chips or cookies. thinking "ill clean it in 5 min after im done eating it", then when they are done eating they put away the cookies or throw the chip bag in the trash but forgot to clean up the damn crumbs on the floor because its very smalll and tiny bits thats hard to see unless u step on it or look down cuz they remember they left crumbs there to begin with.
If they were mindful and just pick up the crumbs they dropped on the floor and eat the cookies using a plate or paper towel to catch the crumbs, there be no need for cleaning and sweeping the floor. That is how you keep a house clean and require less maintenance.

Preventative cleaning is such a great skill to pair with this. I'm chronically ill and cleaning, even in small doses, is so difficult that it's practically impossible to stay on top of. For me what does the trick is to be conscious of preventing messes so I don't have to clean as often. For example, making sure the soap bubbles rinse down the drain in the sink or bathtub drastically slows the buildup of soap scum, in the shower I give the walls and floor a quick spray before turning the water off. I never wear shoes in the house, in fact I step out of my shoes into slippers, so I'm not tracking dirt and only need the occasional vacuum. As suggested here I wipe down counters as I cook, and unload the dishwasher while waiting for things to cook. I made sure all my dishes were dishwasher safe (my home didn't have a dishwasher but you can get a countertop unit for a few hundred which saves me), and only allow myself a couple pots and pans so I can never procrastinate cleaning them or I can't cook lol. Covering your dish in the microwave also prevents the need for so much scrubbing! There are just so many things you can do to slow down the intervals between deep cleaning. I'm living with a room mate right now and it's so difficult that they pay no regard to how much mess they make, but still expect me to do an even share of the chores... Every day they fill the sink and dishwasher with dishes, idk how they even use that many dishes, like they snack all day and use a fresh dish each time, it's awful. The counter is always sticky!! But nobody cares how much mess they're making if someone else will clean it up huh.

  • @esm1817
    @esm1817 Před 3 měsíci +155

I hate these facts so much! 😂
It's WAY easier if you have good mental health and focus. See, for a long time I was so distracted and exhausted I couldn't make myself even wipe down a counter. Then I'd have all kinds of people coming along and offering obvious and helpful advice and then I'd be so heartbroken that I couldn't implement it properly. If you know, you know, I guess.
If you're like me, don't feel bad, just keep going and know perfection isn't the standard. If all else fails, lower your expectations. 😅 I'm not saying to give up. I'm saying, "Feel free to implement only the advice that works for you and ignore the rest." ❤

For me it helped to just say: Better done poorly, than not done at all.
So I got a wireless vacuum, that isn't very good, but will take the worst very fast. And on days I fell good I'll take out the good old wired one, that really gets into all the cracks. I even vacuum shelves and lamps in order not to have to dust. (My wired vacuum has a headpiece with brushes for this)
I got wipes in every room, so I can easily wipe dovn stuff, to keep up with dust.

I hate waiting, so I learned a long time ago to wipe the stove or counters or sweep the floors after putting something in the microwave. I never wait. If I’m cooking, I put things away, chop the rest of the onion and add it to the bag of chopped onions in my freezer, set the table, wash the cutting board and knife, etc. I also cut up carrots and celery to freeze for the days I’m in a time crunch to get dinner made. It also keeps them from getting old or rotten and allows me to make space to buy fresh ones for salads. So it saves money too, because my fresh food doesn’t rot. Wrinkly apples become applesauce (super easy) or pies or fried. If you don’t have the time to cook then, prepare them for cooking and freeze them. To freeze things so you can easily use only what you want, fill a large bag only 1/4 to1/3 full, spread out in a thin layer and freeze flat. After it’s frozen transfer to a smaller bag and use the larger bag to freeze again. Also, always label.

Growing up my mom would have us frantically clean our whole house before company came because she was embarrassed that it was cluttered. Consequently I now will clean for company, but I try really hard not to agonize about peripheral clutter or waste my good energy on frantic housework. Problem is, now I agonize because I almost feel like it's a requirement to either be obsessed with having a clean house or anxiety ridden because of having a dirty one. I also have issues with inconsistent energy levels
So I work steadily when I feel good and take it slow and easy when I don't. I don't have a great system. I just plug away. A great man once said, "I don't keep up. I just keep going."

I'm a 40-year-old mom of 3 school-aged kids and these are FANTASTIC tips! If you work the small tasks into related or nearby tasks throughout the day it's amazing how much that helps. Plus putting in 1-5 mins here are there doesn't feel burdensome. I like to challenge myself to see if I can get the dishes done in the time it takes to microwave Easy Mac or see if I can get the dishwasher loaded in the time it takes to air fry some fries or chicken nuggets. I've been amazed how quickly I can get stuff done!
I have adhd, so maintaining a cleaning schedule is not something my brain will really do... I'm more of a binge-cleaner, but I have learned to lean into it. With a good audiobook or podcast, I can clean for quite a while without knowing how much time is passing. My kids know that if mom is cleaning, don't interrupt her, cuz it might be a while till the next cleaning binge... Haha!!
I do this sometimes, but it could work daily... We have a visual timer on the side of the fridge we can see from the living room. So I'll set a timer for 10 or 15 mins and we'll do a family pickup... Put things away, dishes in sink, put clean laundry away, dirty laundry in hamper... Whatever you see for those 10/15 mins and when it dings, we're done even if not everything is put away/picked up yet. Sometimes I'll sneak a couple more mins on the timer... 😇 But it's amazing what you can get done if everyone works together for just a few minutes. And my kids don't feel like 10 mins is very long... It's the length of 1 CZcams video!

When does it become automatic? Because I try to do things this way but it does consume a lot of mental energy to try to think about everything all the time. And even when I get used to something, if anything special happens in my life (e.g. a relative needs some help, the pets are ill, or a part of the house needs to get fixed), there's a good chance I'll totally forget about all these good habits until my house is a huge mess. I remember my oldest daughter calling and asking me, not long after the birth of her first son, "Mom, how tired can you be before you die?" I held my tongue and just sympathized and offered encouragement (which was hard! LOL). Your suggestions in this video are very good. Thank you for helping the newbies figure it out because not everyone has the advantage of having an organized, energetic, loving mom to teach them!

One thing I like to comment is what I learned when studying to work in a clean room. You mentioned that you clean the dishes after every meal. There is a benefit to that, because it is actually easier to clean surfaces quickly after they get dirty, rather than let it sit there for a while. When I don't clean something right away, I always wash off the dirt with water when I put something in the kitchen sink.

I asked him why do that extra stuff, he said one day your going to want to live with someone and you have to keep everything clean. Growing up on disney of course im looking for a prince charming when i get older, so i started to practice this habit. Its so routine i cant understand any other way of being

My relationship with cleaning is complicated. The short-short version is this:
    1) I've suspected for a while that I'm neurodivergent in at least a couple of ways.
    2) Dealing with a lazy narcissistic father made it worse when I realized his lazy housekeeping was driving **me** bonkers.
    3) Moving into my own place via Section 8 housing assistance taught me my intolerance for unwanted intrusion wasn't just about my father being how he was. It was about other people trying to impose their seemingly impossible neurotypical standards on how my brain actually works.
    4) I also realized that neurodivergence + narc abuse can sometimes equal constant clutter, and I had to get at the root of things and change s*** up for my sake.
    Then....
    5) **favorite boss ever (and one who I wish was my dad) enters the chat and teaches me, however subtly, that being tidy need not be a mentally exhausting thing.**
It is because of that favorite boss ever that I have been able to really sort things out the way I need/want to. **happy tears**
(Like I said, this was the short-short version. 😅)

      @a.katherinesuetterlin3028 Před 3 měsíci +4

@@wendyduncan9084 Wow, good question. 😅 I think it would have to be the following:
      1) Identify the pain points: which are the most challenging/annoying areas of my apartment to keep tidy, and why they are challenging.
      2) Identify ways to keep those areas tidy that suit how my brain works but also satisfies cleanliness codes for the Powers That Be. For example, training myself to pick up my dirty dishes and trash as I go, and put dishes and trash where they go immediately after I eat. I haven't always been successful at this. Sometimes I backslide due to fatigue, but I'm getting better at it just because I like how it feels.
      3) Training myself to put my clean dishes away in the cabinets after running the dishwasher (that idea came from Mr Favorite Boss. 😅). A visual reminder such as one of those "clean/dirty" magnets on my dishwasher door helps a ton! They may seem like a "no-brainer," but coming away from a household full of toxic vibes, trauma, etc, such a simple thing can mean a big difference to someone like me.
There's more to the list, but those were the biggest ones I could think of off the top of my head. 😅

I absolutely agree! It’s better to do small, easy, and quick tasks throughout the day than procrastinating and having to do long clean for hours.
I’ve also realized that the key to easier stuff management is to have LESS stuff to begin with. And the smart and convenient organizational system does the trick: if you want to be able to accomplish a certain task regularly, it needs to be convenient to do because, if it’s too complicated, and there’s a lot of obstacles on the way, you just won’t do it.
Oh, and finding ways to do less work is also helpful: for example, I put 10 garbage bags into the trash can at once, so every time I take the trash out, the new bag is already there, and I don’t need to add a new one - it’s a simple thing and seems like it wouldn’t make a difference, but it sure does!! The less actions, the better!!
And last but not least, don’t wait until something becomes so dirty, that you have to scrub for hours to get it off!! The longer you put off the task, the more work will have to be done!

OMG you accurately described my childhood! It felt more like all day Saturday even though it was probably only 3-4 hours. My SAHM sort of kept up during the week but I'm sure she did the best she could with 5 kids. I think my mom believed the lie that EVERYONE'S house is "company clean" ALL the time. That fueled her feelings of inadequacy that put a lot of pressure on all of us because the house was never clean enough. She was constantly trying to come up with new routines--chore charts, rewards systems, checklists, chores written on popsicle sticks in a jar, etc because she felt like other moms "had it together" and were more organized. And this was all in the days before social media and Pinterest. Because of all that, I grew up hating to clean. Sure, I liked a clean room and as an adult, I love a clean house, but I hate cleaning. I don't want my kids to grow up hating cleaning so our family does a 1-hour cleaning power hour once a week. Everyone has their assigned areas of the house to clean and we set the timer for 60 minutes. When the timer stops, it doesn't matter what you didn't get done, we'll get it next week. The only thing I clean everyday is the kitchen. Throughout the week, the only other things we do are a 10 minute tidy before bed, empty/load the dishwasher, and folding laundry. The big thing that helps with the kitchen chores is that I run the dishwasher everyday whether it's full or not--half full is good enough.

This is also how you get to people saying they get their stress relief off cleaning. Once you fill all your off moments with cleaning activity, venting out to yourself without doing anything else feels off, so you start cleaning while doing it and since it feels productive to your cleaning week, it makes you feel better. It's not actually that cleaning helps you destress, but rather venting puts you in a situation where you can be cleaning productively and being productive because it benefits future you, feels good. So if you ever wonder why your aunt claims cleaning helps her stress, this is my take.

100% true. In fact, scientists say that any other manual activity, like gardening, laundry, cooking, these kind of activities don't require a lot of concentration to do, and you can go through all your thoughts (negative and positive) and solve your problems. Cleaning surely is all about daily maintenance. I can't imagine spending half Saturday to clean the house. I have other things to do (and my wife, too). It sure is a good practice for the kids. That way you learn how to clean from a young age, because I believe many don't actually know how to do it properly. What agents to use and for what, and which you should never use when cleaning certain things.
What also helps a lot with maintenance is e.g. a vacuum robot. You can have it clean different floors of your home. We usually turn it on when we leave the house. It keeps a base level of tidiness, even and especially if you have pets that lose a lot of hair. Modern ones can also wipe the floor, but often that does not work that well.
Dishwasher for the dishes if you really still wash them by hand. Been there, did that, but a dishwasher is such a blessing really.

Kids do make a huge difference. With 3 tween/teen boys and our dishwasher breaking down (it took almost 2 months to have it replaced), I felt like I had just become a dishwasher. I would wash till it was time to cook again, then cook, eat and wash. It was a temporary thing, so I just did all the dishes myself, but the skin on my hands was so tight and dry and cracked at the knuckles in spite of putting on lotion and salve multiple times a day (probably doesn't help that I have eczema and a latex allergy, so I washed bare handed). I spent every last minute just trying to keep up with the mess. It's also close to the end of the school year so the kids have been swamped with homework. Had this been in the summer, they would have definitely been helping out more!

    • @sugarcandy243

This is very true. On a daily basis, I only need to load the dishwasher (unload next morning), wipe down the kitchen counters, clear stuff off the dining and coffee table at the end of the day. That's it. Weekly chores include laundry, vaccuming, bath/kitchen cleaning, and dusting (takes about 2 hours coz we split the chores). Rest everything is done when needed like washing windows at the start of the summer, appliances when they become too grimy (happens about twice a year).
The 3 things that will help keep things going so they don't pile up:
      1. Daily routines - we pick up after ourselves, plates and cutlery go in the sink until after dinner when we load the dishwasher. Clothes go in the laundry basket in the bedroom, shoes go in the rack near the front door etc. Neither of us are slobs so it's farily easy. It helps if you have a place for everything like coats, shoes, keys, mail, etc.
      2. No excess clutter - I'm very mindful of what I buy or bring into my home. That way I only have what's needed, nothing extra. The only 'decor' items I have are my books and board games lol. No multiples of stuff like towels and such coz why? With online shopping, even if there was something I needed urgently, I can order it ASAP. My home is for living, not a Costco warehouse!
      3. Small home - No matter how big your house is, it will eventually get filled up with stuff. I keep at least 20% free space in any room/closet/shelf. Not only does this reduce visual clutter but it also mean if I have to bring anything temporarily into my house there's room for it (like toilet paper before the last few rolls are used up).
Trust me, no. 2 and 3 are more important to a clean home than 1 will ever be. Or rather, it's almost impossible to maintain a clean home with just daily habits if you have a large home with too much stuff.

I agree with your realisation of doing it a little now and then - I do the same.
However, I fully realise now that in the past, all the time I was cleaning, it wasn’t primarily a cleaning or routine problem. It was always a problem of things and projects. I don’t and didn’t have an excess of things but I still have too many things - and as a result of that and my creativity I also had too many projects.
The solution: Downsizing the amount of objects and the amount of projects/diy/building/painting etc. Now I am happier in my home, that is on its way to a minimalistic place. I will still keep the things that make my home cozy but the excess is almost gone. I will also still do projects but only the actually necessary.
I never thought a minimalistic environment was ever on the agenda, never ever! But the feeling is actually amazing. It took time but it was all worth it.
And as a bonus, cleaning takes less than half the time it used to. A truly huge win!

Looking around I see so many things I've been just walking past for days and weeks. If I just took something with me every time I went from one side of the house to the other, this place would be organized in no time. If I just did a little task every single time I walked into the kitchen I wouldn't need to have a scrub down cleaning marathon. If I cleaned my bathroom just a little every time I used it, I wouldn't be embarrassed for someone to come over.
I think this might be a game changer if I can stick to it. I'm going to try to watch this video once a week until it sinks in.

I grew up in an extremely disorganized and dirty home. Dishes and laundry were a nightmare. We would spend a week cleaning if we had any guests over. Every single surface was cluttered. Our house always smelled. The shame and lack of basic cleaning skills I had was embarrassing.
My husband (he was raised in a more organized, tidy home) and I moved in to an apartment together for the first time and struggled. Things were a little easier, but I still would go a week before washing dishes and would run out of clean laundry.
We bought our first home in March, and I was determined to love my new home and make a functional space. We both work full time and struggle with ADHD. Thanks to your videos, I created my own schedule and I've stuck to it since we moved in.
    Everyday, no matter what.
    *Make my bed
*Make sure my floors are safe for my rooma
*Wash dishes, wipe counters and sweep kitchen floors.
    Tuesdays I vacuum and mop.
Wednesdays my husband cleans the bathroom
Thursday is a celebratory movie night
Fridays I scoop dog poop, mow and tend our garden.
Mondays and Weekends are for whatever we feel like.
I own the kitchen. My husband owns the laundry. We don't have the cleanest home, but this is the most comfortable I've ever felt in any home. Ever. I'm so proud of my new home. Thank you for your videos. Your personality and communication style makes cleaning more approachable. They literally changed my life.

    Like you Ariel, my
Mom cleaned through the week but, she never ever had us kids clean or cook. So guess how uneducated this girl and her 3 brothers were when we moved out? Thankfully, one of my neighbors became a mentor for me when it came to cleaning and meal prep. I am a big “clean as you go” person, I have a routine, similar to fly lady, that I do daily and Friday is a big clean and our laundry (I am now an empty nester with a career outside the home) day so the weekend is just for us and if we are home, we still do a minimal tidy and “clean as you go” daily. Doing this pretty much eliminated once a week deep cleaning, actually gave me and my family more free time each day and pretty much Saturdays and Sundays stressing about what to do on the weekend for fun. And if we stayed home to binge movies or shows on the weekend, there was no guilt about cleaning because my home is always tidy and I do t have to stare at messes on the weekend.

It's interesting how you said it's mostly a women's problem. I feel like well, it happens to be true but I also wanna stress that cleaning *shouldn't* be a responsibility of women by default. It's scary how many men rely on their moms or their wives for cleaning. Sure, if you have a partner, and agree to clean for them, and they agree to do something else, that's perfectly fine.
I'm especially writing this because I'm a man and this video resonated with me regardless. Saturday was always cleaning day at home. I remember moving to a college dorm and suggesting to my roommate, "Hey, at my home Saturday was always cleaning day, how about we do something similar?". Since then I realized that some chores should be more than weekly.
Welp, now there's also the problem of how most of my roommates didn't really wanna clean and it was mostly I who cleaned our room. I feel like at least a little bit of the explanation is connected to how gendered our societal view of cleaning is. A lot of my roommates called me a "clean freak" even though I myself might sometimes stop cleaning for weeks especially if I'm busy or feeling down. What doesn't help is I'm allergic to dust mites and I would have my nose run all the time (thankfully I have medication now at least). I'm not saying women can't be messy, especially college students, but I think after having 6 different roommates it's gotta be more than just bad luck.

Thanks for the memories! In the ‘70, the ladies group at my church did a Side-tracked Home Executive (SHE) book chat. Pam and Peggy were hilarious! It was then that I realized my hated job of unloading the dishwasher took only 5 minutes. I stopped putting it off. So many housekeeping chores take under 10 minutes. I still have my job cards, although I don’t need reminders of jobs that need to be done.

My mom was a single mom and she worked in a factory. She paid one of her friends mom to come to the house once a week. Patsy didn't clean our rooms though. Mom said she was the one who worked so Patsy was there for her. Patsy would collect our things and put them in front of our bedroom doors 😂 but she did teach us to do laundry. I remember thinking I was going to fall into the washing machine. In the end we never learned how to clean. Mom would come over to our houses and apologize for the way our homes looked because she never taught us how to clean. She was really bothered by this. We would say it's ok. But I'm 39 , my 3 kids are 21- just had the first grandbaby, 19 & 17 and no one knows how to clean! I've been binge watching you for a while and a cpl months ago I finally realized that it's maintenance that keeps a home tidy. The little things throughout the day make a big difference. I always have a donation box, I deal with the dishes while my coffee is brewing and Swiffer away the dog hair several times a day. I've learned so much from you. My home is finally in an acceptable state. Not perfect but perfect enough.💚🤓

After doing Flylady for 3 years, my bathroom keeps itself fairly clean. Swish n Swipe is genius, because I always do one extra small task while I am at it.
My biggest struggle is our livingroom. We live in a very small space. The livingroom is also an office, a playroom and a mudroom. Everything that comes into the house is left there for days. It is very overwhelming!
Bedrooms are also fairly maintained. I have young children who nap during the day, so bedrooms are cleaned not quite as often as I like, but they are cozy.

its not just about making cleaning route but simplifying the job so when it does need to be done on a route basis its fast. the easiest way of pulling this off is by downsizing the amount of things you own. if you have a hallway with many pictures on the wall you would need to carefully remove them to clean the picture frame and wall behind it just to wipe down the walls, instead just dont have a lot of pictures on the wall and use a simple layout. clutter makes cleaning complicated and slow, if you throw out and minimize as much as possible it becomes much easier to mop an entire house fast. if you have a lot of paperwork digital scanning then redundant archiving practices can allow you to throw out or burn yet still keep important data. in many jurisdictions you can scan legal documents and the digital copy of the document maintains validity as legal evidence as the original copy. meaning at least for my case i can scan a room of boxes - declutter the entire room and pack everything into a verbatium gold archive blueray disk then make a few copies of that for safety. as you get older you have a lot of paperwork and this makes the hardest task of cleaning around clutter.

I love your vids and, I really didn't know until more recently that so many people struggled to keep things tidy. For me it kind of comes naturally, my sisters too, but recently I found out some of my friends struggled and part of the reason they never had/have company. So I think your videos speak to a lot of people especially those with children in their dynamics. :)
We (my husband I) had a conversation a few nights ago about my cleaning. Unless you go to the laundromat, I don't understand people who have wash days on their day(s) off. Like I told my husband why would anyone want to give up one of their days off every time to doing laundry... Like I understand using your day off for bigger projects, or even a hardcore 2 hours of your time every other week for something like shampooing rugs or exterior home maintenance. If you can do a load of every other day of laundry, you'll be in pretty good shape unless your family is huge it might need to be every day. I was practicing the 10/15 minute clean-up my whole life. I instilled it in my boys as well, I would have them clean in their rooms for 5/10 or 15 minutes, the rule was they put everything outside their door that was trash, clothes etc. after their time was up I would then have them deliver all of their things to the garbage, laundry. You can do a lot in a little time if you stay focused.

I know why it never worked for me, and it was that I couldn't seem to remember about the load of laundry. I'd take it down and then forget it was there. Then once I remembered and moved it to the dryer I'd forget again. One load would take me three days. By then I was behind. So for me, if I made it my sole focus I could remember it better.

Each day has a room that gets cleaned, figuring out that simple and easy to remember schedule helps me keep my house clean. Friday is my day to create, Saturday is for rest and fellowship with God, family, and friends, and Sunday is the beginning with church and the kitchen. Keep it simple and easy to remember that helps me the most.

I'm doing regular chores without even noticing exactly as you told in the video. Carrying food into the living room, then when i go to the bathroom for a pee brake i take stuff with me on the way to the bathroom, put it in the dishwasher and turn it on if it's full. Then on the way back from the toilet i might take a dirty towel on my way back to the livingroom (the laundry room is close to it). And wiping the sink and cleaning the toilet takes less than 5 minutes. And i only clean the floor like once a month and sometimes not even that. Between those times i just take a 1 minute sweep if i see a noticeable amount, dust isn't harmful but rotten food is. I live by myself with no pets so doesn't get that dirty.
But all in all it just comes down to efficiency and logistics, be as lazy as you can. I got tired of pairing socks so i threw every socks i had away, and bought 50 identical socks, so when i'm doing 60 degree C laundry i just open two drawers for underwear and socks and dump them in unfolded and unsorted.

I also do mostly matain routine.
    - Always swipe sink and shower after use.
    - Simple swipe of windows when I open them to to get air.
    - I have a manual floor wiper with water/soap tank for bathroom and one for kitchen for everitime i see a stain or someting.
And for my arch nemesis, the dust I'm allergic to i use the technology. Vacuum robot and a cyclonic battery avuum + an air filter.
I have seen that if robot clean the floor and the filter clean the air, there is less dust around so also on other surfaces it takes much longer to build up. So a manual cleaning once a wee for 30 minutes is generally enough. Plus obviously to add some time for filer maintenance.
But I have not kids or pets. Those increase drastically. Also a girlfriend with long air mess with the robot :D
