      True that.... Rachael H! LOL
      However, that is the most important time to do so because kids must go to school and sit next to "peers". Having a clean house that doesn't smell like rancid, greasy, old food and cigarettes... which sticks to the clothing and hair, and then sending that child off to school to become the target of much teasing... is so much more important!
      I have been involved in our local crisis pregnancy center for over 22 years, and you can SMELL exactly how "clean" my clients houses/cars are, in the first 15 seconds after they walk in, and how that smell fills the counseling rooms while there and after they leave... unless we go spray it!
      If all parents could SEE that, knowing how cruel kids can be, they would all go that extra mile.

    I love DKW!!! She literally changed my life when I became disabled. My entire life went up in smoke, I couldn't even get out of bed. Then I found Dana and I would make myself get out of bed and "just do the dishes", but not everyday. Some days I physically couldn't do them, so maybe every 2-3 days I forced myself to do the dishes. As I got better I would add a very small task. I am so close to having it under control and that's a major accomplishment for me. Thank you Dana K White 😘😘😘💓

    A *HUGE* time-saver tip for laundry: Keep everyone’s laundry separate. Rarely mix! Saves like 90% of laundry time by never needing to sort. Each person has a basket. Husband and I mix denim. But everything else is separate. Love it so much. Also, only keep one hamper for pulling clothes out of the dryer. No more baskets to take care of “later.” I also hang everything that can easily be hung. Less folding is a blessing.

      I agree. My mother has been in constant motion - cleaning, cooking, etc. for 60 years. I have no memories of her ever sitting down to watch tv, read with us, play video games or anything. She'd sit down to eat dinner for a few minutes and pop back up to start the dishes. Spring and Fall cleaning meant moving all furniture and washing every wall. My father worked 2 jobs so when he got home he'd watch tv with us on occasion. Now at 79 years old my mother still can't sit through a 22 minute sitcom. I would prefer memories of her spending time with us instead of clean windows. My sons are grown now and I have a cluttered house but I have spent tons of time with them playing, reading, talking, taking walks, cuddling each other and the pets. A clean home is nice but a happy family is most important! Awkward Mom - you are doing great!

      @@kristinauhrl6983 Her book or a video from dana k white would give a better explanation. But in a nutshell, everything in your house (rooms, closets, shelves, boxes, cabinets, etc) including your house itself is a container. You assign a place to like items and then only keep as many of that item as will fit in its container. So for me, i have room for 3 bookshelves. I put my favorites and work related ones in place first and when the shelves were filled the rest got donated. The container was full. The key to her "system" (besides doing the dishes) is to declutter down to the point where you *can* get your house put back together in 5 minutes. I love laundry day, too! @@JadePlayer2 great question! My kids are actually grown so it's just my husband and I. I don't do any laundry on Sunday. The rest of the week I do certain loads: my husband's work clothes, towels, gentle care clothes, etc. Occasionally, I may have just five items or so in a load, but I just set the load setting on the washer to Small or Medium. I am so much more on top of the laundry this way!

So it only works in our house when we do 5-minute pickups at transition points (so a couple a day), like the end of an activity or before a meal.

    Years ago we bought a house that had (I thought) a terrible problem with grout all over the bottom of the shower in one bathroom. It turned out to just be hard water deposits. Lots of applications of CLR, and a little bit of scrubbing, cleaned every bit.

      @That Awkward Mom I think what you have shown me is that we can all create our own cleaning routine. There are certain areas that every agrees on-dishes, bed making, bathroom cleaning. Let's be honest. We rest better crawling into a made bed. It is easier to clean the kitchen/ dining room when dishes are done and a clean bathroom helps us stay clean. These three things make our homes close to company ready. I want to know what other routines you are wanting to review. For the really overwhelmed mum (like me), try this method:
    DON'T allocate certain cleaning tasks to certain days, just make a list of them and every time you manage to carve out some time for cleaning, clean e.g. 1 sink, the next day (or 3 or 5 days later) clean 1 toilet or vacuum 1 room, etc.
    That's right, shopping, cooking, dishes and laundry (with 7 kids definitely a load a day!) come first; cleaning is luxury. That's why I'm now grateful and proud of myself when I manage to squeeze 5 minutes of tidying (set a timer) and 10 minutes of cleaning into my day. 🎉 It's almost my treat to myself (some people will understand).

      Fast forward, my siblings and I are grown. I inherited the OCD, minimalist, military style cleaning and organizing gene, and my younger sister inherited the absolute opposite. She is so creative and artistic, but is such a mess that everyone of us instinctively start cleaning her house when we visit. Is she failing? Absolutely not, because in the end, she is twice the parent I could ever be because she absolutely understands the meaning of living in the moment with her kids. That has seriously changed my life. CHANGED MY LIFE! But, yes. I love her decluttering method. And I believe why her system works so well is that if you have those things down that can bring your house to a screeching halt: laundry, dishes, then when you do have time and energy, you aren't playing catch up with those giant tasks that take longer when you don't do regularly- she calls it dishes math. Dirty dishes take exponentially longer the more there are and how crusted they have become. Anyway, when you're not playing catch up with those you have the time to get to other areas that need attention and you have the energy to build other systems. I love her podcast. And I also read her blog from the beginning before her books came out. Her system just makes sense. And I love that you always know where to start. Dishes. Do the dishes. 😁 Anyway!! Great video! You're a beautiful mother and I'm so happy for you and I love your channel! I’m glad you found a laundry system that works so well for you! It’s hard. I’ve always had a hard time doing a load a day from start to finish too. I’ve tried once a week but it was too overwhelming for me. I’ve found a happy medium of basically every other day. I wash and dry one day, then fold and put away the best, then another load the next. It spreads it out nicely and if I happen to wash and fold the same day great but if I can’t get to it then I’m not too worried.

    The 5 minute a day is not really cleaning routine for me it is the daily habit that helps me “take it there now”.
    I love Dana for declutter and Fly Lady as a suggest cleaning routine.

    It feels lovely to have a clean empty sink/dishwasher. In an ideal world I would do ALL my clothes washing in one day, but i have chronic illness and just cant do 3/4 washes in a day period without my spine breaking in half.... Opposite to you I felt overwhelmed doing the once a week system. I do love watching these reviews - even though i wont adopt all of the ideas, watching one of your previous videos actually made me rethink my washing and doing it daily (as needed) really works for me. So know that even your failures can still inspire people.

    Ariel, try CLR (stands for Calcium, Lime and Rust) it is a very very strong cleaner. So use gloves and good ventilation. But the stuff is magical! It’ll even take rust out of fabric. And it’s great if you have hard water that clouds your glass shower doors too. And shower heads. Skyla is adorbs. And you definitely need a dish washer!!

    Dana K White has always been my favorite for decluttering and cleaning solutions. I love having my kitchen clean even if the rest of the house is a mess. We are all different and different cleaning solutions work for different people. All of her books are great she is very funny, just like you very entertaining.

    Dana is the best! ✨💪❤️
    She says do 5 mins because it’s manageable but you may have to more than one 5 mins in a day. Like one in the morning another in the afternoon and again in the evening.
    I love fly lady too but Dana’s is the most simple way of staying afloat. I use her methods all the time when I’m struggling with chronic health conditions and that’s all I can manage in a day. She really gets people who are not naturally organised and tidy. ❤

    I LOVE LOVE LOVE your videos. You are the most entertaining person to watch. So funny and adorable at the same time. One of the only channels I have notifications on cuz I never want to miss any of your videos. Always happily anticipating the next one.
    As a single mom who raised 5 kids alone with kids from ages 1 to ten I wholeheartedly agree that laundry and dishes have the most impact. I actually succeeded at these (but failed at many other things). Papers were my downfall and still are. But laundry and dishes have more impact than anything else. Thankfully I'm past that stage of life and the house no longer "messes itself up"!
    One thing I did that in my case was àn absolute necessity...I actually sat down and figured out what absolutely needed to be done and what things were NOT a high priority and gave myself permission not to feel guilty about those things. I literally decided what was most important and selectively allowed certain things to fall by the wayside. It worked for a single working mom of 5 for 17 years.
    Keep up the good work. You are doing a fantastic job!

    I could never stick with the one load a day thing either until I tried tweeking it a little. I don't have a whole day to dedicate to laundry and I find that as long as I give it any daily attention, it stays kept up. I don't try to finish an entire load in one day anymore. I'm happy if I just fold the load left in the dryer, or if the dryer is empty I'll start a load. Now instead of stressing over 1.starting a load 2.putting load in the dryer (and hang up non-dryer things) 3. take clothes out of the dryer to fold, I just pick one. Some days I'm motivated to do more, but not stressed if I don't.

    • @emilycameron4024
      @emilycameron4024 Před rokem +1

      I do the same. I usually start one load, and then take down some dry washing and put it away (from the day before), then later hang out, and sometimes start a second load. I'm at home with little kids, so sometimes things get disrupted, but I always get at least one load washed and hung up.

    After watching 3 of your other cleaning videos I made my own cleaning routine that fit my family’s needs and coincidentally it’s almost exactly identical to this routine! Lol
    I do all (or at least 70% of it) in 1 day, dishes are the first thing I do every morning, & I do a 15 minute clean up of a room. Bathroom is done every time the kids get a bath.

    For several years now, I've always dedicated Mondays to laundry. It's always worked really well for me, so I've always hated the "one load a day" advice.

    • @fulltimervegan4998
      @fulltimervegan4998 Před rokem +6

      I don’t have a washer and dryer so one load a day doesn’t work for me either, but I love hitting the laundromat. I do my laundry on my admin days so I can grab a coffee and take advantage of the free Wi-Fi while all my laundry gets done at once. I also babysit for my sister a lot so any time I’m able to take advantage of her washer and dryer, I definitely use hers to save money and so I have less to fold when it’s only one load at a time. Maybe one day I’ll have a washer and dryer so one load a day will be more practical.

      I don't have a dryer. But I don't do one load aday either. I do one when I have enough cloth to do it. And I have my own proccess that works for me. I used to hate folding clothes, but Kon Mary helped me a lot with her books.

      Everyone is different. The one load a day saved me, because if one gets missed it is no big deal. When your laundry day gets missed (this happened to me a lot), then it is a catastrophe. Also I live in Europe and line dry.

    I read her book a year ago and I LOVE the laundry day idea! I hate laundry and always procrastinated folding, so before, we always had laundry on the couch. Laundry day changed my life because I do laundry all day on Mondays, then guess what: no more laundry until next Monday! 🥳 (Unless my child wets the bed mid-week or runs out of pants, which is pretty common because I have two that recently night trained and one that still has daytime 😅accidents) I buy enough socks and kids clothes to have enough to last me a week, too!
