      My tip for making stainless steel appliances look nice is a little orange glo on a dry cloth. I know it sounds counter intuitive but it works! Even a different oil such as coconut would probably work just as well. Thank you for sharing your awesome personality with us!

      Using vegetable oil on the stainless steel appliances works well for me. Just apply it on a paper towel, rub it on the appliance, then buff it out a little with a fresh paper towel.

I use her method as a base line routine and then tweak my schedule and tasks according to whatever else is going on each week. I also focus on an area of my house instead of just one room for each ckeaning day, except for my Focus day (deep clean day). That day, I focus my alloted time in the room I assigned for that week.

    I tried the Motivated Moms routine 15 years ago. Yes. FIFTEEN YEARS ago. That was back in the day when there was a website and you paid $8 to download the whole routine and print it out.
    The thing that was difficult for me was how it didn't make sense. The tasks felt so random. Sometimes there were tons of them. Sometimes hardly any. I felt like I couldn't plan ahead because would the tasks take me 15 mins or would they take me an hour and a half? I never knew from one day to the next. It was SO overwhelming.
    FlyLady made so much more sense. I need to get back into FlyLady. When I did it regularly I honestly felt like the house kept itself clean. I mean, it was still me doing it, but it felt effortless over time.
    Pans do not belong in the dishwasher unless you're really tired and just can't be bothered.
    Re: emptying the trash every day. That's a hard nope. We barely feel up our kitchen trash to be emptied once a week. Ain't no way I'm emptying it every day if I don't have to. Trash bags are really bloody expensive!

      I have a small trashcan in the kitchen that uses 8 gallon trashcan liners. I take out trash if full or Tuesday night if trash pickup is next morning (small town, trash pickup is every other Wednesday). I also have a large fan rake for cleaning up if a bear gets into garbage bin and scatters garbage over my yard and neighbor's yards. Parking my car next to the bins (1 for recycling) works because bears can't knock them over. Some neighbors have steel dumpsters to keep bears out but costs more than 2 bins.

      @@libbylandscape3560 I agree! The "daily musing" thing drove me bananas.

    Cleaning with kids is hard. So if the house is overwhelming we do what we call “Frantic and Freeze”
    The idea is that they “clean frantically” while music plays. Then when I pause it they freeze, which allows me to give some time to instruct them if need be.
    After the house gets a face lift I’m more motivated to actually clean things 😅

    a tip my step mother told me about is run the dishwasher directly after dinner and empty it before bed, fill it with the few late night snacking items so then in the morning you don't start your day with having to empty it and all day you fill it instead of putting things in the sink. I will even do a shorter wash cycle to make it finish before bedtime if I have to. Even if you do it most of the time it helps out a lot - day is done kind of thing. Also do the one step rule, while you are cooking or baking etc. put the dirty items as you are done with them directly into the dishwasher not the sink and wash, dry and put away the item if it won't fit in the dishwasher (large mixing bowls, pots, pans, cookie sheets) don't leave them until you are done.....so by the time dinner is done cooking or baking most of the clean up is done. Sometimes you have to run the dishwasher during the day an extra time to keep kitchen sink from being full of dirty dishes and all (the one thing I kept from Fly Lady is keeping the kitchen sink clean (and counters) it is so wonderful to always come into a "tidy" kitchen. Edit - if it fits in the dishwasher it goes into the dishwasher!

    • @juliab8992

      I agree with your principle, but for me, I start the dishwasher before bed, and it fits in my morning routine to empty it.
      It has been one of the most beneficial adulting habits to put dinner cooking kitchenware DIRECTLY into the dishwasher. I do wash nonstick pans by hand, but EVERYTHING else goes in.
      And NEVER leave the dirty dishes in the washer till tomorrow "because there's still room" ... There will never be enough room for your whole next meals worth of dishes, and once you leave the "leftover" dishes in the sink... You are already in the spiral of never catching up!

    When my children were little, I did a quick tidy 3 times a day. Doing this often became "quick". Once before lunch, once before I fixed dinner and once before I put the kids to bed. I also think the routine helps structure your day, teach my kids to help and to help them value a clean organized space. Nowadays I visit my children and see them doing the same things with their children. I think doing it with your child is so much better than telling, nagging and even yelling. And yes my lazy never paying attention or helping husband would even keep and do the routine when I wasn't there. And I didn't have to tell, nag or yell at him.😊

Over the years I came to love and appreciate my quiet time washing dishes (raised three children too). Sure, I've almost always had a dishwasher, but only use it as a drying rack for my lovingly hand-washed dishes, pots and pans. Oh, and I'll only have a home with a picture window over the sink so I can more easily daydream while washing. I may not have started off loving dish washing, but wouldn't trade it now. ❤

    I have a Daily routine hanging on my fridge and every morning I get up, look up what has already been done (my husband gets up a bit earlier) like refill the fresh water can in the fridge, giving our cat fresh water, doing the litterbox (when done on daily basis it's a job that only takes a minute so we have a happy domestic housecat) emptying the dishwasher, you know the little things. Even my eldest son is in the game doing little chores. And when done, all you have to do is place the magnets from the 'to do' to 'done' box. This made it easier for my husband to know what he could do to help. And in the evening, checking if all chores are done, I sweep the magnets back to the 'to do' side for the next day. If I (rarely) forget this, my husband does this very easy chore too.
    And for me, by the time I get to the list, half of the chores are done, so happy we started this a few years ago.

    Try a drop of baby oil on a cloth, ONE DROP ONLY! Take the top off the bottle of baby oil, place your microfiber cloth over the bottle and then do the thing where you turn the bottle over quickly and then back to upright. Recover the bottle - so it doesn't spill - and then use the microfiber cloth to wipe down your cleaned stainless steel. I noticed that you had your rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle. Fill your spray bottle with tap water and then add ONE SINGLE DROP of dish soap, replace the cap and give it a good shake. Spray your dishwasher door and wipe with a damp cloth, then use baby oil as I suggested above. Save the cloth in a baggie. You will need less and less oil over time because the cloth will have baby oil on it. Why baby oil? Because it will not go rancid. I know it sounds weird, but trust me, it works! One bottle of baby oil will last years. I've been using this method for about 25 years and I'm halfway through my second bottle.

It's rubbing alcohol, but also water and dawn dish soap. 2/3 full of 91% isopropyl alcohol (i still use 70% in a pinch and just add less water) about half a teaspoon of dawn dish soap, and fill the rest of a spray bottle with water. Cut the roll to fit the top of the fridge, and tape it on the sides. When they get dirty, ball it up and throw it away!

    Love to see people try out new cleaning routines! :) I like that she focuses a lot on the kitchen/bathrooms. For most people, these rooms are the most dirty, so it is pretty natural they need frequent cleaning. I found that the daily 'must be done' is kitchen, bathroom and a quick tidy in every room. When you stay on top of it, it is much easier to complete. This routine seems to agree with this.

    We had a similar system in a lab ... daily, weekly, twice monthly and monthly maintenance set up so you walked in, grabbed the stack of cards and just DID IT. Then you refiled the cards into the next time slot they belonged in.
    It was set up so no day was overloaded with maintenance, and weekends skated with just the daily tasks.
    Longer interval maintenance had a similar system we tracked separately.

    You can hang your clothes on a clothes drying rack. It might sound weird but it actually works just as good and you could still do a load a day without having a dryer. This summer I lived in Germany so that was my only option and I actually prefer it now in some ways because my clothes lasted longer

    • @raggsj38
      @raggsj38 Před 9 měsíci +1

      I've been doing this for years, and I live in the US (I did spend some of my childhood in Europe though). My husband is very tall (as in special order his clothes tall), so it started as a way to not shrink any of his clothing. But like you, when I saw how much longer his clothing lasted I started doing it for all the clothing. I do have a dryer but it's only used for towels in the winter (I also have an outdoor line for summer) and very occasionally sheets (I have two quite large racks that will fit a queen sheet each, so I use those). I'd hate to have to go back to using a dryer.

    • @GreenWhitePurple
      @GreenWhitePurple Před 9 měsíci

      You can dry sheets and duvet covers on an airer, folded. Just turn them and refold them the other way once or twice a day. It helps to have a wide airer, so fewer folds. If folded several times, turn and refold them a little more.

    It really depends upon the type of stainless steel and the finish. Trial and error has taught me three different ones: So on one of my appliances, the Zep works the best. On my other, vinegar and hot water on a microfiber cloth. And for another, straight rubbing alcohol works best. For Zep Stainless Steel Cleaner (amazon). (use a tiny amount - it's oil based, and don't use a microfiber cloth, it will never come out.) If I had to pick one: vinegar and warm or hot water: spray it, leave it, come back and wipe it. For Pots and Pans in the dishwasher: My theory on all cookware, dishes and utensils: "if you can't go in the dishwasher, you can't live in my house."

    On the topic of daily laundry, I live in Australia and we like to hang our laundry outside to dry. So the laundry waits for a good drying day or if its been raining too much! it may go in the dryer after hanging around the house for a few hours. We just don't like using electricity to dry our clothes on a regular basis. I understand that if you live in a climate with snow then you don't have much choice. I have one more system. The Slob Sisters. Theirs is one check list with tasks for each room in the house including the barn, garage, office, etc. Once all of these are written down, each task is transferred to a 3 x 5 card in a recipe box. The system is custom, color coded by area (house, business, personal, etc) based on the colors of cards available to you. While it is a chore to begin, it is good for those who don't do well with lists and includes a Basic Week Plan balancing a personal day with a family work day and play day. Everything to run the house is included in this system. Their books are available in your local library and help you to organize your life.

      I’ve soaked some of mine when they’ve gotten bad after being sick for months & could barely get out of bed, in 70% isopropyl alcohol, bagged it in a plastic bag & let it soak for up to several days. You might lose some pigment if the article is black or red because those colors are often over dyed, and the dye would normally come out anyway in the wash. If after soaking it still smells bad & you really want to save it, pour some vinegar in & let it soak it some. Don’t do this to leather. If you know the item is lost anyway, you might want to take the chance of saving it before tossing it. It’s worked for me on countless items of clothes…..but do at your own risk.

    ON vacuuming stairs and sweeping the porch. Keeping the stairs clean keeps you from tracking dirt from the stairs to the rest of the house. Don't make a dust bunny breeding ground. Keep the porch (and garage floor) clean and less dirt gets tracked into the house.
    Furnace filter - buy a dozen filters and change the filter when you get your utility bill. CHEAP filters changed monthly are better than expensive filters you forget.
