Pete, These CZcams ride alongs , history discussions and stories are the best entertainment available to us like minded musicians by far .... A million thanks, and please, keep it coming !
Thanks!
Agree
@@PeteThorn Interesting video with lots of great stuff, stories, history. Pete, please do more videos like these as well!!! Fantastic stuff.
Ever think of doing a series with Pete Yorn? Can’t beat the title: “Yorn and Thorn.” ( or vice versa. Don’t wanna any ego problems.)
Who else is happy for Pete and that he was able to do this?? I am!!! So well deserved
For us that are VH total nerds, this video is like watching a pilgrimage to Mecca or inside the tomb of an ancient Egyptian god. Thank you for this, Pete!
🙏🎸
I totally agree
It’s a shedded tear from the guitar Gods. Lol
Well put! Even though it is essentially a small cold storage room with no windows the history blows me away! You could probably do something similar with an old storage space in an old home but probably just easier to use a plugin :P
Opening that reverb chamber was like rolling back the stone on Jesus' tomb haha. Hallowed ground, for sure.
Holy cow YES!!!
Yeah, that was the part of the vid that had me looking close and plotting how I could have one of those.
What a surprise that walk was! MI class of 93 here, haven't visited since then. This brought back sweet memories, thanks Pete!
You ROCK, Pete!
My brother lived right behind the walk of fame and it is sad to see so many bizz's closed with there garage door down and that is how it is in Nashville and Chicago right now thank you Pete you have always been down to Earth and a great dude and friend and great player TY...Ernie....

Thank you for this marvelous walk-through and tour!! You brought some precious history and a seriously cool project to life.
I'm so sorry to hear about the incident near SSF and glad you got through it ok. I had a parallel situation in NYC back in 2001, and grateful to be just fine.

That was an amazing cool tour Pete!
Sounds amazing Pete! What a great video of a legendary studio.👍🤘
That f'ing legendary Echo Chamber needs to be in the Smithsonian Museum if that building ever gets sold.
Very cool! Brought back so many 1970s LA memories for me! LA, a nice place to visit, but you wouldn't want to live there . . . unless you have a mansion in Balboa Beach. The thing most people who have never been to LA don't know is the level of electrical energy in the air there. The fun and excitement along the coast is unforgettable. I lived in Pacific Palisades, Mandeville Canyon, and Brentwood for years, as well as Santa Monica when it was still just a small beach town. This was back when the Beach Boys were still around, and even up to when VH got the residency at Gazzari's, and beyond . . . My other homes were in and around Marin County (just north of San Francisco) which was also a rock star haven, until the yuppies ruined it all for everyone after. So, I bounced back and forth between West LA and Marin County. 1965 to 1980, when artistry and experimentation were drained out of the music industry by the worthless Yuppie MBAs. After that, it was all about corporate technicians (those who know everything about playing an instrument except for when not to). But we all knew the rules back then: #1. Double books (you were ass-fucked from the get-go). #2. It's not who you know, but who you blow (and if you had principles, you didn't stand a chance). And then Karma struck back at the music business industrial complex with Napster. All the old gangsters lost their strangle-hold on the business. Karma is a bitch, and she works overtime! Still, I miss LA. The beaches. The LA Babes and their 'dress code' . . . Anyone here ever heard of "Hotel Hell?" The main pipeline. Dancers, strippers, porn-stars, groupies. If you were not aware of this, you didn't live in LA. Sadly, of all the studios in the greater LA area (including North Hollywood, the Valley, the beaches), Sunset Sound was one that I never got to work in as either a musician or engineer. I'm not dead yet. Neither is my music. From Portland, Oregon, where the music scene is absolutely fucking anemic! If I could describe the Portland music scene, I could very succinctly put it this way: A half-gallon of skim milk. Perfect for that bowl of homogenized pablum. Seattle still has the greater pool of real musicians. But who the fuck wants to live in Seattle? There's even more fascists there than in Oregon! The deep-south of the pacific-northwest. They like to call it "The State of Jefferson" thinking that you'll believe they mean Thomas Jefferson; when they really mean Jefferson Davis.
*_goosebumps_* I can't imagine being in there... thanks so much, Pete
SO cool - congrats Pete:)
Thanks, Pete for sharing. Always an educational journey. Keep on Rockin
My old stomping grounds. It's good to see these places. Thanks Pete!
Awesome to see the history!!
Awesome, what a legendary Studio and that chamber, sounded amazing when you and Dave were talking in there. Great video Pete.
Pete, many thanks for the tour, enjoyed that. You’re a good storyteller too! ☀️
Thanks so much, Pete! A glimpse of music heaven I probably never would have seen if not for you.
Pete, this was totally awesome, man. Thanks for sharing this!!
Brings back good memories from our stays in LA when we were on tour in the US, trying to visit as many cool places as possible in our free time. Went to the Sunset Sound spot too! Awesome to see all this again! Greetings from Belgium! Thans for this little video!
Very cool! Thanks for the tour. It brings back fond memories of going to the clubs in the 80s around Sunset or Hollywood Blvd. Lots of fun times! I didn't get jumped once.
Agreed...I love the vintage old school knowledge that just pours outa Pete man... smart dude been around and knows his shit. And appears to be a first class human from what I've seen...mad respect for the work he puts in... incredible player!! Thanks for this Pete! Awesome 👍
Hey thanks Eric!
Can't wait to buy them. So amazing what technology allows us to do
Being a IR junkie, I'm totally looking forward to these Cabs and brilliant idea of having them captured in the Holy Grail of places to record in.
Way Cool Vid Pete. THANKS for sharing. ROCK ON!
That tone was glorious when they walked into the studio while you were playing. Pete, you have the best channel on CZcams.
I went to MI as well. Thank you so much for posting this Pete! Brings back great memories! It looks exactly the same! Was there in 89-90
Very cool.
Very cool video on a variety of levels!!
Sunset sound is near me but never been. Stoked for this.
That was killer. It is great to be given a mental picture of these places since they are references to many of the interesting stories you talk about on your show. So thanx big time!!!
Fun video, these are great!!
Thanks for the Hollywood tour! I used to live in the area and kinda miss the craziness sometimes.
The whole video is awesome, I love behind the scenes stuff but that reverb chamber is amazing.
Very cool! I really enjoyed this video.
Got to get some Sunset Sound merch. Pretty cool! Thanks Pete!
Thanks for the awesome video Pete. I always look forward to your videos every week. There is some history there for sure. A huge amount of Prince albums were also recorded there too. I miss him so much.
I was just responding to another,, I can’t believe I forgot to mention Prince. So stupid of me
@@PeteThorn Prince pretty much set up camp in Studio 3 exclusively but also used 1 & 2 as well sometimes.
8:18 that room sounds amazing. I had to replay that section many times to just soak in the reverb coming off the voices. So simple but so good sounding.
That was great Pete! Cool getting a little glimpse of LA from your perspective. Stay Safe!
Great video, thanks!
Killer video!!
I lived on Fuller 1987-92 and on Whitley for a few months about 9-10 years ago haha
I really enjoyed this, the walk was a real bonus and likely the only way ill ever get there, thanks so much 😎👍
Love seeing the early Port City! I've got an oversized Port City 1x12 with an alnico Cream and it sounds killer with my Dirty Shirley Mini.
Was great to see the old neighborhood as a fellow MI student, used to take that same bus stop too! Thanks for sharing that legendary studio as well Pete! 🤘🏻
Great video Pete, thanks man! One of these days I'm gonna get to jam with you.
Great video. Sorry for the misfortune you experienced. I never will understand why some people act the way they do, especially when there are a lot of places that can help them out with food, shelter, clothes, metal health, spiritual help, etc. I am glad you survived and the experience didn’t change your personality and the kindness you show to others.
Such an interesting video. Thanks Pete.
Thanks!
Someday some kid is gonna go into that room and say Pete was standing right here!
I have fond memories of spending several weeks in LA back in, oh... '86 or so with a good friend of mine who was living there at the time. She's a graduate of MI and arranged for me to take the orientation session. The whole trip was so much fun and I really liked the LA vibe. I loved the weather, too, which isn't surprising given how variable and often unpleasant weather can be here in Montreal. Maybe someday I can go back there for a vacation.
Anyway, thanks for the video tour, Pete.
That was cool and enjoyed your walk around town and stories. Thank you Pete, from a fellow Canadian! Hope to see you again soon, saw you at Lauzons in Ottawa a few years ago and bought the Suhr unit shortly after!
Dan Fogelberg recorded at Caribou. That was JT (James Taylor). 🤪
I know I said Fogelberg when I showed James Taylor, but his platinum disk was right beside Neil Diamond, That’s why I said that… Sorry I noticed that later, that that might’ve been a bit confusing. Fogelberg worked at sunset too!
I used to live up Ivar a couple doors from the Alto Nido. Nothing much happened there but my friends Lula Perla and Ginger Coyote brought by Johnny Thunders one morning and we went out for Mimosas.
Thanks Pete.
I see an HH-V800 back there!! About to go down...already did... will be snagging these when they come out. Way excited...
Great amp!
Awesome awesome video !!!!
Awesome video!
Cant wait! Also, I’ve discovered I’m a big fan of the Canadian/English pronunciation of “process” 🙂
Amazing, I lived on Fuller Ave as well lol.
Very cool touring studio and area. Neat content!
Loved this. These will be a definite addition to my Captor x itinerary when they come out 👍🏼
Very cool Pete. You are one of the few still in LA. Cheers James.
But very cool vid! Thanks for sharing!!!
Thank you Pete for sharing another piece of the incredibly detailed and interesting Eddie Van Halen Tone puzzle.
Wow, brings back memories for me! I was at MI in 1992, what a year. You're right it looks the same. I wonder if you took all the courses from Keith Wyatt, Nick Nolan, Danny Gill, Steve Trovato like I did. I never even knew Sunset Sound was so close, I knew the bars though, like Cat & Fiddle and Bordner's
Amazing video Pete!! How stoked were you to be in that chamber?? That’s so freakin cool my man!
Cool stuff, thanks for sharing 👏👏👏👍🙋♂️
🐈
Mister Pete, I have to thank you yet again for turning us on to some really valuable information that I was literally clueless about. Now I have my homework to do because I'm really intrigued. Thanks again man!
