Hey guys, I’m Rabea. I'm the lead guitarist in Toska, Frog Leap & Dorje where I write music, make songs and have a great time with my mates. I also have my own line of guitars with Chapman Guitars, and I’ve designed numerous products with some really cool companies, such as the Victory Amps VX Kraken. Anyway, i hope you enjoy my videos, thank you for watching!

Tones start at 10:00
Thanks for watching guys. This is one of the most useful products I’ve come across in many years!
Never too late for a career in drone metal! Just saying.... Solid 360 flip by the way! Keep skating
"Let's not try and play Walk first thing in the morning" Still pretty much nails it!! haha Awesome tones as always Rabea!!
Ox or Captor X? just for home recording
Quick Question Rab: IR recommendations?
Are we hearing audio from your Studio Speakers?
11:09 That twin-tracker width is great! Explanation - if you send exactly the same signal to your left ear and right ear there will be no stereo effect. Entropy sort of means randomness. That means the twin tracker is making lots of tiny random time variations to the left and right signals so that you don't hear things at exactly the same time in the left and right ear. The effect is to make it seem to your ears like the sound is coming from different places. It isn't the notes that is important. It is the timing. A note that arrives at your left ear a fraction of a millisecond after arriving at your right ear sounds like it is over there (points to the far right corner of bedroom). Cool demo, Bea.
you're the only one i can listen talking for 10 minutes without playing cause i know it will be good
bravo
Honestly was thinking the same
You’re brilliant. The captor x is brilliant. This video is brilliant. Thank you.
I sit here 12 seconds into the video, composing my final will & testament, as my life is being crushed by that immense tone. Holy fucking shit, Rabea. That shit's NASTY in the best way possible!
half a second in with headphones on and I already wanted that thing, what a sound. 🤘👽
NO WAY..... The Best product is: RABEA'S SHAMPOO!!!!!
I want to see him after a shower. Like, no homo I just want to see wtf happens to his hair.
Haha so funny 😐
I am so loving my new Captor X. I was ready to get rid of my Marshall DSL40c as I could just never enjoy the tone. Even at the intolerable volume level that everyone knows a tube amp needs to be at, I just didn't care for it. I even replaced the 70/80 stock speaker with a Creamback and it was a little better, but it was never inspiring to play. That has all changed now that I'm sending it through the Captor X. I even love the clean channel now!!
just getting absolutely pummeled with sound at the very start of a rabea video. such righteous noise.
Stumbled across this older video when looking for attenuator and DAMN, your tone was killer in this video. This Captor X looks sweet.
This isn’t really an attenuator even though it has a possibility to attenuate. Tone King Ironman is the best choice for that job.
Love my original Captor, I use it nearly every day. Glad to see they're added the ability to load your own IR's - its now pretty much perfect for live use.
OMG dude that intro tone gave me goosebumps!
Nice Killswitch engage at 19:40 dude lml
THIS. IS. MY. PURSE.
I’ve been holding off on these load boxes/cab sims for a loooong time. I’m afraid this one is gonna get me.
I was eyeing one up as I love my tube amps, but can't make lots of noise. You know, same old, same old. After this review I'm sold. Thanks for the great review Rabea!
You release your video just when I am looking infos about the product, thanks, good video, keep it up!
The captor x absorbs energy from the power amp. That energy has to go somewhere so it's dispersed in the form of heat. That's why you hear the fan kick on during playing. You can literally hear it rev up with every chug. It's necessary for the unit to be able to absorb the power without burning out components.
I’ve had mine now for about 5 months and it’s changed my life!
Massive fan your playing! I play completely different things, and I honestly find a lot of modern metal, even the progressive stuff, really daft. Genrewise you're hard to pin down, but I guess those are the labels that fit your stuff - ..yet I find your playing is super interesting, your melodic stuff, harmonizing, phrasing, always melody over scales.. TOP NOTCH stuff. THanKs fOr shaRiNg the music.
TONE MY BRO !! 🤘🤘
I’m a fan, thanks for the lesson..🙏🏼
The Entropy Control simulates the "sway" or flange of dual tape heads to Reel. A Doubling, width, or thickness control if you will.
Just ordered the 16-ohm Torpedo X! These things are next level for your high gain, high wattage tube amps. Highly recommend.
As always, great video and great tones! Love my Captor X. Got it after selling my Kemper, to use with my tube amp. Not looking back; it makes everything so simple and fun.
I guess I’m the only one here that had no idea what this box does but just likes to hear him play. The tone right at 10:00 is great though
I don't know either ahaha but just going directly to the tones
I love that you play the riff from My Curse. Great video dude! Next item on my list.
Yes!! Mine was on back order for nearly four weeks and finally shipped this week! Should have it by monday.
Man I love your playing . Appreciate you sharing brother Bea.
Very Helpful mine arrives tomorrow. Thanks
We need a super long compilation of all bea’s riffs from when he’s just jamming in demo vids like this. Need. I could listen to you noodling for hours man
Pretty sure his grinding gears EP Is a collection of stuff he wrote for videos, check that out for sure if you haven’t
Great in depth look. After demoing several different options this looks like the best for me. Thx!
I could listen to 24:28 for hours in an open world forest type of survival game so immersive! 🙌
Bea- Finally had a chance to sit down and go through Fire by the Silos. I know 4 you it's YEARS ago. Awesome Album. Lookin forward to your 2020 releases.
Awesome. It sounds unbelievably good. Two notes stuff is very useful.
Now where’ve I heard this song before? @ 19:33 Ah yes, Killswitch Engage - My Curse! 🤘😀🤘
Awesome video Man! I think in going to buy this based on your review 👍🤙
Wish this thing has more attenuation options. That would really help getting the right stage volume in a variety of venues. As it is, there's only really two options ... no attentuation or medium attenuation.
Rabs looking sleek and sporty... kick push kick push kick push... coast
That is a beast! I have the cabM which record all my pedal demo with and already the amount of options to tone shape is unreal
Man that preset 3 reverb was so vibey!
Killer riffage and great content bro! ✊🏾🔥
well done! Very detailed and informative. Ty...getting myself one.
i need this, my apartment full of amps is getting dusty lol
that's weird, I want an apartment full of amps
You're neighbours will appreciate it as well
Need more amps to cover that dust!
My amp I converted into an apartment needs a set of servant's stairs.
Great review, Bea - thanks!
In physics terms entropy is the randomness or un-orderedness in a system, the lowest energy state that everything moves towards. I don‘t really know how _that_ applies to the setting tho… 😅
I believe it is the degree of change (randomness) from the original track when you are twin tracking adding a millisecond delay between them. As Bea increased the entropy, the presence of a second track became more obvious.
Had mine on order from Sweetwater for a few weeks. Still patiently waiting.
Mine shipped from Sweetwater today, yours should soon as well!
sounds immense!
I want one of these things so goddamn bad
You sir make anything sound good
Just ordered one from Andertons. This is going to be so handy.
that beginning riff gave me MERROW vibes
Dude ur Tone is Fantastic!!
Thanks for the sweet review. Just ordered one, replacing my iridium for home studio. We'll see though!
So, is it nicer than the Iridium?
@@rasmusvadavlund7270 it’s different. It’s very good at getting your amp into a monitor for quiet playing or recording. I’d say overall it’s probably slightly more authentic than the iridium in terms of tone and feel. However, I’ve moved back to the iridium. It’s just easier for me. I don’t need to re-rig up my amp taking it back and forth from the studio etc. And i save the tubes by just flicking on the iridium. Further, you get more variety in the iridium compared to using your amps through the captor. Both are great gear. Just depends on what your needs and priorities are. I like simple. The iridium is perfect right now.
Sounds fakin killer!
Would love to see a comparison to the Suhr Reactive Load IR
Sounds great👍
Great playing man. Greetings from Panama
Sounds good. You have to try it with the Victory Duchess pedal/amp and record a video for us! Keep up the good work.
This is awesome man. Have a good day.
Thanks for making this video - literally got lost in the moment watching haha tones sound GREAT - I am curious what my PRS Archon 50 will sound like \m/
22:32 - this progression was very readily at hand. Is this a song? Sounds killer.
Great tips! Greetings from Singapore!
My god....Rabea! That intro is so freaking amazing that I simply stopped doing anything I was and a strong desire to learn to play that piece surrounded my brain! What is it? 20:55 what tuning are playing in?
Thanks Rabea. Great vid. Question to you or anyone else. Do you listen to your playing real time through monitors or headphones when recording or practicing? I'm assuming to make this video you must play through monitors to be able to sync the audio. Thanks!
Damn, this thing sounds so good. I just wish it was a tad bit cheaper, but you do get what you pay for. Thanks for presenting this to us, Rabea! Stay metal, my friend! 🤘🤘
Where do you get your tshirts from?
Great Video - I'm Keen on getting the Captor X - NOW !! PRESET 3 !! - the piece you play - is adorable !! _ is that a song ? - or something you just played on the spur of the moment - either way - I had to sit and work it out -Just Beautiful
I also want to know!
(Who is that on your T-shirt? August Strindberg? Edgar Allan Poe? Cool)
If it won’t send the audio signal over USB, that means it’s got to convert the digital signal to analog on the way out, then you have to convert it to digital again via your interface to get it into the computer. That’s so frustrating. I wish it, or an “pro” version, would just send the digital signal that it has already made directly out via usb into the computer so you didn’t have to go through another round of conversion, more latency, and the need to hook it up to your interface. I’d buy it instantly.
Seems to be pretty competitive with the Boss Waza Tube amp expander and at half the price. Nice work.
Hey dude, have you seen/heard of the Mas Effects Mimir's Well? It seems like another cool step in the more serious multi-FX vibe, with a hint of Toneprint or Eventide in it as well. Yet to see anyone demo it properly.
Great demo Rabea; just long enough! I just got my Captor X yesterday! Is this your signal chain:
Guitar>Pedal Board>Amp>Captor X>UA Apollo Twin X>Mac>Powered Monitors?
What monitors are you using? Thanks! ~Robert
Would this unit be a good option if my primary use would be silent headphones practice and amp attenuation for low volume playing?
Are there better options for that?
Great review. I am mainly looking to get a load box for re-amping and then mixing in my studio. Would you still recommend this or the original Captor? Thanks!
That opening riff is DIRTY
Cool shirt.
Always play Walk first thing in the morning. Lol
Another awesome review! TwoNotes did a really great job with the Captor X. BTW, Could you tell me what kind of studio monitors do you recommend?
Own and use this gear every day since May. It’s a shame that flaws of Captor X are never mentioned because there are significant ones : very very noisy fan when you push the amp (I have finally removed it to install a quieter one, OEM is total crap rated at 35 dBa), load only simulates sub part of a real speaker impedance curve, with low ends in particular which are not well transcribed... feel is quite stiff when you play. Also TN IRs are pretty dark sounding and I noticed that all their presets are systematically filtered out (decreased 800hz band, increased 2000hz band), which makes me think that it is a trick to fatten the tone and compensate the poor management of low end and the general stiffness. Yeah, overall product is nice with all offered features and app control is excellent. But, regarding pure tone quality and feel, it is not fully satisfying. I am about to receive the St Rock React:IR which seems more advanced on core features for cheaper price, I also think that products like Suhr Reactive Load IR or new Mesa CabClone IR are better tone wise, even if more basic in terms of features. Note : I use a Mesa Boogie Mark IV, this amp is IMHO too picky for this stuff and requires a better load.
does the fan get his noise to the signal? Do you hear it on phones or in the recorded track?
Hi Cederic, I also own a Mark IV and I was wondering if you tried the St Rock React:IR already? I am looking for an easy way to record at home. thanks! :-)
@@janwillem009 Hi, yes I have purchased the React:IR and I am fully satisfied 😊 excellent interaction with the Mark IV, tone and feel are way better ! I also love the simple but efficient React:IR software, everything works flawlessly, i couldn't be happier and it is cheaper than Captor X
Hey i'm New to all this kind of stuff i was looking for something like the captor for playing at Home with a tube amps , and recorded myself if i want to , is the alternative you mentionned are better ? I mean if i put my AMP into this and then into m'y cab will it be a better signal than the captor x ?
Very cool. Sounds great - except does anyone else think the "doubler" on there sounds way beyond cheesy?
Amazing demo and incredible playing! I love the preset 3 reverb. Can you recommend a reverb pedal to recreate that tone while playing through a guitar amp?
Great review. I have the non-X version and am stuck with one IR if I want to print directly to DAW. When you said this product is “Wall of Sound in the box”, that sold it for me! Would it be capable to load the GGD Studio Cab IRs into this unit ?
Yes you can :)
Would this be best for me? Briefly: I play edrums and guitar at home and play/record mainly using headphones. I have pedals, few amps, steinberg audiointerface, iMac/Ableton/BIASFX, mixer(where I plug the headphones), old Roland poweramp for speakers and studiomonitors. (+edrums). But for the guitar tone, I love the tube amp sound even in my own cover recordings and playing thru headphones. I just bought dark terror Orange amp which dont have cabsim. Do I need one? And would this be the right product? And Thanks for your very best reviews. You are very very clear and share your knowledge very professional way👍
So if i'm correct, it will replace my guitar cabinet? I just plug my amp into this and it will act like an actual cabinet?
Can you run a Victory Kraken Pedal directly into this instead of using an amp?
awesome vid Rabea! always great, since I use 3 amps all the time is it possible to use this with them? I'm sure ill need more than 1 I'm new to all of this..
There's one for sale used for $425 near me. Should I get it for my IRT60?
Could this be used in place of the UA Ox Box?
R.I.P. OX Box?
Not really
Question for current users of this unit, How is the tone signal coming from the head phone out?
Hi Rabea, first really thank you for everything you did and what you do, i'm really happy to discovered your bands and your channel.
I have a question about the ohm with the super kraken and the captor, because the captor is made for 8 ohm amps and the super kraken is an 16 ohm so how do you plug them? or maybe is it better to have an 16 ohm captor X ?
I know that you have other things to do but i'm really lost with this and how to do it , i have a super kraken and i don't want to make a mistake or buy the wrong thing.
Thank you to answer,
Bastien.
12:27
Don’t show this to church guitarrist 😂
So if i get this correct, hes using the styrmon pedals "mono" into the FX of a single Kraken and then when he goes into Captor that makes the stereo effect?
So one cable into Captor and two cables out, but only one cable in and out of the styrmon pedals? How does that work? Anyone knows? Or is it just "trust me brah, just buy it and see" :)
From what I got the Captor has its own stereo widening effect. It's not just the signal from the pedal that goes stereo.
@@Cacophaton yeah but the styrmon sounded stereo, but maybe thats just how good the captor is
Rabea, please excuse the question not being related to this video. But I'm interested in buying the VX100 and was wondering if you know for how long will these be in production for, before they stop being made? Like for example, it's gonna take me about 10 full months to save up for one. Idk, you might not be able to disclose when MK is going to start phasing them out, but if you are will it be end of 2020 when they start doing that? Cheers x
I’ve been looking at these for weeks. I’m looking at purchasing either one of these or the Reload.
The Captor X offers a lot of mobility. I’m torn!
but the reload offers complete attenuation, from 0 to inf thanks to its internal transistor amp!
I know, I'm torn like you, considering that I already have the old captor
My Captor X turned today.... with a Mooer Preamp Live also....wanted to cover all angles in my home studio... I’ll need to figure out how to run it all together. Should be a fun little project!!!
I've watched a lot of videos of people reviewing this box and comparing it with others and was disappointed in the others because it seemed to lack low end.
However, this video proves that you should watch as many videos as you can find.
This video shows you don't need to spend $1,000 to go direct and achieve studio quality recording. Learn your gear! You can have thousands or hundreds invested but it doesn't mean shit if you don't know how to use it.
I am curious though, did you use the 16 ohm or 8 ohm and does it make a difference when running direct?
I just got mine yesterday, it's pretty cool.
I'm new to all this , can someone answer about recording to logic. Do I still need to go through wall of sound to record to logic?
Do the captor pre sets show up on wall of sound?
Cheers
I don’t have one of these guys but I have the old captor. I believe if you’re playing through the IRs that are loaded onto your captor I don’t think it’s necessary to go through WOS but if you choose to bypass the loaded IR you would need to use an IR loader such as WOS.
I love when people say "it's got USB in" or it's got USB out".
will you still get the feedback and the natural harmonics with no speaker?
With the Captor X, can you reamp your signal? Could you send the balanced output to a power amp and a cab?
Any chance you’d be prepared to do a quick 30s mic’d cab run through of the attenuation?
