I have the original Captor and it's been a game changer for my home studio recording. As great as that has been, this is a great upgrade at a very reasonable price.
Wait Tom I see a Waza and an Ox in your studio. We use twin Ox Boxes coupled with UA Apollo with our 19 tube amps in our Studio A and B. It’s great to see Torpedo combined their 2 technologies into one unit. We just got a Captor X and with UA plug ins it sounds fantastic. I think they did a fabulous job with the quality and wireless app for both Stage and studio. And as always your jazz fusion playing is gorgeous! God bless Rob
Love this demo, although you are a brilliant musician, you chose not to just play but explain clearly all the features of this box, I have just bought one it and am inspired more to play because of the alternative ways to hear my tube amps.
I already have this on order coming in the next few days but I just learned from your video that this includes a BUILT IN TUNER and I’m pumped!! I’ve been thinking about spending $100+ on one of those pedal tuners, which wow idk why they’re that expensive, but now I’m thrilled to know this includes one. I haven’t received it yet but I’m already thinking this was the best purchase ever
I guess you could also go out to a guitar cab either with attenuation or not and then use the XLRs with IRs to a stereo type FRFR either side of the guitar cab with delays etc and do a W/D/W stage rig
Been playing my Strymon Iridium at home, but really want to be playing through my 5e3. To really use a Tweed, you have to practice coaxing the tones out... If I had the money, I’d get a new amp that was more conventional, but I don’t. 😕 I do have a few high end pedals that aren’t getting love, that could finance the Captor X. It might be enough of a kick in the ass to make the leap into digital recording?
wait, so it only provides either 'Full' or 'Low' output settings for the attenuator, not a variable resister, like on my Marshall Brake? Or have I missed soemething?
Thanks for the great demo Mr. Quayle! Just wondering as I ordered the 16 ohm as I have a bunch of heads which require that, but I'm wondering if I should have got the 8 ohm model? I have a couple of amps that need to see an 8 or 4 ohm load. Can you overload the box?
Awesome review! is there anyway to even out the levels between your guitar playing and your speaking voice? I’m having to ride the volume on my remote so I don’t piss off the rest of the people in my house 🤣
I am curious to know which one is sounding better with a tube amp : CAB M and external load box or a Captor X ? Maybe this setup would sound exactly the same. Some of you guys (girls) could compare ?
I'm sad that the days of Tom on CZcams for something other than schilling a product seem to be over 😔. I still watch, don't get me wrong and I'm still a very big fan!
Those days are not over - I just have a three year old taking up most of my time, need to make a living and do tons of video work for other people. Please be patient and I will get back to creating other content in good time. Thanks for watching.
Just for your information, that EQ seems to be semi-parametric, which is still a wonderful thing. A "fully parametric EQ" is one in which the width of the frequency center is also controllable(e.g. narrow or wide). A fully parametric EQ would be unnecessary for the majority of users. Cheers, Alan Tomlinson
It's good for recording using the ir software, I play high gain , I find the attenuator adds quite a bit of high end. The attenuation is too much in my opinion. Even the first one my 100watt amp at rehearsal is near maxed out, and I don't like amps that way. Again just my personal experience .
This question is directed at anyone that can help really. I would say im an intermediate player I can play adequately but for some reason im really having trouble learning cool legato things on the 15th fret for example and higher. for some reason it feels really uncomfortable. if anyone has any tips please help PS: I can play the stuff im talking about(3 nps legato and hybrid picked arpeggios) lower on the neck.
The captor x does not have a fx loop so if you are using an old plexi or something and want a loop you want the TAE. If not though this is pretty much the one to beat.
I would mirror what Rhett Schull said in his review. The OX and TAE are amazing if you want something permanently set up in your studio for recording, where you need the best quality effects built in to the OX or TAE and the truly amazing cab/mic sims of the OX. The TAE has some unique features of it's own like the power amp, the tuneable reactive load and FX loop, so that might swing you in that direction too. But for sheer value for money and portability, the Captor X wins hands down every time. It sounds awesome too!
Any albums showcasing this man's exception talent. Can't seem to find them. How can one of the best guitarists out there not have an extensive discography? I need to enter the Legato zone, can someone point the way?
Tom's got a library of legato tutorials on his website, you can't go wrong :) Hi released a CD, The Elba Triangle is the name of the project. It's on Spotify, but buy it if you wanna support the musician. Enjoy!
Just got one but can't play my Deluxe Reverb and even worse my 57 Deluxe at higher volumes without red-light clipping on the Captor, especially with the High Input setting which allows for more volume. The distortion on the 57 is a real disappointment. I'm thinking the Captor is made for amps with a lot more headroom than I have in my two Fenders.
In my opinion you can accive the same sound results with a simple combination of the previous Torpedo Captor 8,for example, and a Mooer Radar witch is an IR pedal loader extremely small, and really affordable. This configuration is cheaper than the Captor X and the sound is the same . I don't care about reverbs from this kind of unit because everyone I know using some kind of a pedal reverb...and effects in general. The "stereo thing" is the only difference that I can find ,and this isn't enough to justify 300€ more for the new Captor X. Again, I am not saying that it's not a good product, I am just saying that there are other alternatives for your pocket with same sound results . Cheers.
@@JeffBee1 First of all who needs this pedal for the additional attenuation possibilities ? I think that , 20 dB of attenuation which comes with Captor 8 is more than enough. And secondly there are other alternatives , excellent to be honest for loading the Mooer Radar with exceptional IRs. Again I m not saying anything bad about the Captor X. I am thinking about someone who is not able to invest in the "next generation" of Captor and he might be interested in the same available sound results with less money. Thirdly , 90 % of those who buying this product are using it for playing their own amps in home studio inviornment. In my opinion Captor X it's a waste of money if you are not a musician who plays constantly.... gig after gig... and nowadays there are no longer musicians to do that... Unfortunately. So in conclusion I strongly believe that Captor 8/4/16 is better value for money. Cheers.
“Kinda” metal housing. Well, is it or isn’t it? “Built like a tank.” No, no it’s not built like a tank. Is it rugged, durable, strong, solid? Perhaps, but it’s not built like a tank.
Sure about that ? It's almost the same product to me : a load box + IRs. At least, the Captor X offers a lot of additional useful features (attenuator, reverb, possibility to tweak the setting, etc...) for the same price.
In my opinion this product is a tube killer and will seriously damage der amps, do you want to replace your tubes every few weeks? Be Warned they don't give refunds! Stay well away from two notes !
Will the effects in the captor X pass through to the cab when using a cab, like the Tube Amp expander? Or do the effects only work with the XLR outs???
Doesn't matter what piece of gear Tom is demonstrating, his playing is always the reason I show up.
Seems great, just wish it had more intermediary attenuation settings
I’m only half way thru the video and it’s hands down the best review I’ve seen yet for Captor X.
I have the original Captor and it's been a game changer for my home studio recording. As great as that has been, this is a great upgrade at a very reasonable price.
Just when I swore nothing could give me GAS during this quarantine period 🔥
The Achilles' heel of guitar recording in the digital environment is the high gain. Solos and cleans with effects will always work.
I mean that intro was hautingly beautiful and the tone was absolutely gorgeous. Possibly your best yet! BUYING ONE NOW!
the action on toms guitar looks so smooth
I'm here just to listen to Tom's playing
he just got it man, wow

Will you ditch the ox boxes for the captor x?
This is how I use it too. I have a UAD satellite and use the UAD channel strips and effects during recording. Best of both worlds.
What a great video..... concise and eloquent, great job!
You didn't play so much that it would be showy and you kept to the point!
Thank you!

It's about time they release this - all the other smaller products are half-measures
Well explained (very articulate) and fantastic playing Tom
The opening guitar playing gave me chills! Thanks for a great review!!
The Ibanez is really suit you..
Glorious tone..
Looks fusionable..
Fusionable??
Wonderful presentation Tom. Can’t wait to deep dive on my Captor X.

Great review Tom. Your playing is fantastic !!!
Sounds amazing. What amp are you using?
Will the effects in the captor X pass through to the cab when using a cab, like the Tube Amp expander? Or do the effects only work with the XLR outs?
Tom I love your guitar playing and music. You and Marshall Harrison and Matteo Mancuso are my greatest living guitar idols!
I guess you could also go out to a guitar cab either with attenuation or not and then use the XLRs with IRs to a stereo type FRFR either side of the guitar cab with delays etc and do a W/D/W stage rig
Sweet tone from that Ibanez and your digits.
Yo 88, slang for you play like you have 88 fingers.😃 Great demo, just bought one. Can't wait to get it.
I need to use my heads DI I to computer so I wonder how the attenuator scores compared to other products.. 3 notch increment seems a bit limited ..no?
Excellent review Tom.
Great video brother! Just got my cherry popped with this. Thanks for sharing
I dig all the features on mine, except the attenuator. Just does not handle high gain well, makes all my favourite heads sound extremely fizzy.
I saw one video with a TWO-Notes rep saying that a 16ohm version will eventually be available too.
That's correct

What is the studio version for in 2024? Is it replaced by the X and Captor M??
Two Notes is killer!
Great video Tom
Awesome piece of gear!!! 😍🔥

Is th mobile app identical in sound/features as Torpedo Wall Of Sound but just looks different?
when recording - can you just directly plug into computer via usb?
Awesome review!

Just a thought, what happens if IOS is updated and there isn’t a later compatible version of the app?
thats a nice ox box in the background lollll
Tom you are great. Only one question. What do you prefer between OX and Torpedo about emulation of speakers and microphones? Thanks
I am curious to know which one is sounding better with a tube amp : CAB M and external load box or a Captor X ?
Maybe this setup would sound exactly the same.
Some of you guys (girls) could compare ?
Has anyone compared this unit with the Fryette Power Station PS-2 ? Which is a Better unit?
The new Sony A7 makes this video look great!
Came for the Captor X, stayed for his playing and tones!
O wow nice sound
Cool!
Very cool.
Do you run this into the mic pres on you interface or as a line in? Thanks
how does it compare with blug blubox??

So what's better; the Wazza unit of this Captor X?
Nice video. I can see that you're using the Sony A7 MkIII already.

You can only use an 8 ohm amp with it?!? Ouch, that's a deal breaker.
You can use a 4 or 8 ohm amp - it's a 'safe mismatch'. We will be releasing a run of 16 ohm in the coming months,
Apparently Two Notes is now working on a 16 ohm version.
This just doesn't work so good with my AC30

The only problem with Two notes products : you have to spend hours building your own presets
„There’s nothing quite like this on the market.“ - Quite a strange summary while displaying the Universal Audio OX in the background...!?
The combination of features and price point make this a unique product in the market.
