It makes sense that the onset of his schizophrenia happened after he found out he was adopted and that his mother was in a psychiatric ward because big stressors like that can trigger the onset of schizophrenia and other mental health disorders.
My father is like this my mom was an immigrant so she worked no matter what. My dad was born here and lost his good paying job and since then refused to work a job that paid less than his original. Because of this my mom had to work even harder. You would think after she passed due to the stress he would get his shit together for his kids. But no he still didn’t try to work because he thought he was too good for it. Now that we are older and are starting to get our lives together my dad. (Who hasn’t worked since I was at least 15) thinks he can just move in with us and we can support him just because he’s our father and because he is now sick. Meanwhile he didn’t support my mother, fucked off to another state after his mom died, and barely supported us throughout it all. Like you said people have to want for themselves and some people just are lazy and expect people to always do for them. But the cycle ends here. It’s hard and I hate that he is suffering but he brought all of that suffering on to himself and he still continues to drink and smoke even though that will make his illness worse. It fucking sucks too cuz he’s still my dad but it’s not fair that he gets to live life carefree while everyone else around him is struggling trying to support him and ourselves. Some people are just lost causes.
Yeah, I think it's good that you're not allowing that into your life. I would think it'd be recommended to cut off communication completely, right? Sounds healthier than having to deal with the emotional baggage and lows every time he comes to your door step so he can hypocritically guilt you. It can be hard enough to support ourselves at a young age, you shouldn't have to ALSO support him when he wants to just take advantage.
Yeah schizophrenia is highly genetic and can be masked if you grow up in a good environment. It was the stress that probably triggered the onset of his schizophrenia.
A homeless man once asked my mom money for food. She gave him a bun of bread. He said thank you. We walked away. when I looked back I saw him throw the bun in the trash.
The biggest risk factor for schizophrenia is hereditary. There’s a ~1% chance you can get it (outside factors and stressors can influence this) but if you have a parent that has it you have a ~13% chance of getting it.
Your brother could try calling APS (adult protective services)? They would send people to come and investigate (on what it sounds like to me... is self-neglect).
I have a friend who’s sister is schizophrenic it’s one of the saddest things I’ve witnessed because I’ve known her since she was little and yeah she was a little awkward and weird but the way she acts now it’s like she’s gone. Before I’d be able to talk with her and hold a conversation. But now when I look at her and talk it’s like she is looking through me and everything I say just goes in one ear and out the other. It’s so heartbreaking because there is nothing you can do. And it happened out of nowhere one day she was her normal self and then bam she changed forever. One time she took an Uber to another state. She walked for hours and called the police on herself because she thought someone was chasing her and even worse things that I shouldn’t share. I wouldn’t wish that mental illness on anyone. I feel so bad for my friend because it’s like she lost her sister in a way. I don’t know what I would do if my siblings were schizophrenic it’s horrible.

The series of Gabriel Fernandez made me so cautious about my environment. I was really shocked by the lack of help they received by the government services.. Sadly that is not an abnormality. Even in Germany 😕 That really made me feel sick.
I feel like even im Texas the homeless population has increased immensely. I have even seen the increase in the smallest cities. I would say the surge here began after Hurricane Katrina and it’s been on a steadily increase. I can only imagine the intensity over there. I legit would be so scared. I’ve had bad encounters with the homeless.
I live about an hour and a half from Los Angeles. I haven't visited the city since February. March was when the coronavirus in the U.S. just really got out of hand. I can't imagine what that city (especially Skid Row) is going through in this pandemic. Makes a lot of sense why people are moving out.

The one I experienced had ill intent because my parents were asshole bosses and this person was so bitter she backtabbed me. She pretended to be nice and befriend just to gain my trust and backstab every single time.

Couldn't disagree more about this years championship having an asterisk. Yes there weren't any fans, traveling, or whatever else which made things "easier" for the most part but that shouldn't give this year an asterisk. They only invited the playoffs teams and other teams that have a chance of making the playoffs. Every game was meaningful for the teams trying to get the 8th spot. Not every player made it but because of that it was harder to adjust for those teams. Dont forget, Avery Bradley didn't want to join the bubble and that was a huge blow to the Lakers but luckily we got players that stepped up. God bless Caruso and playoff Rondo. Teams had to work their way around missing players. No fans? Okay, it's favorable for the players so there's no distraction. Cool. But since there are no fans and no distractions, it's all about playing ball straight up. No games. No bullshit. Just straight up ball. Teams should be more competitive. No traveling should give players more rest and no excuses to having a bad game. They had to test for COVID all the damn time and Jared Dudley even said that you can see some teams (punk ass Clippers) didnt wanna be there in the end. Every team that was there went through the same difficulties. Every one had a clean slate. Sure the season was shortened but so will the next season. Things will be different most likely from now on, should we put asterisks on those too? This past NBA calendar year literally took a full calendar year to finish due to COVID. Nothing about this year was easy.
