    Well done sir. You managed to squeeze a impressive amount of items into that little tin.

    I really enjoyed your video. You've created one of the most diverse fire kits I've seen on CZcams. Well done, Sir! I'm subscribing to your channel.
    G'day from the Southern U.S.!

    man i lost count, 30+ items in a tin? what made it stand head and shoulders above the rest was your use of ingredients for a chemical fire, fuckin brilliant, best mini kit i have ever seen! almost makes me wanna move to Australia, barring that at the least it made me a subscriber ;)

      Richard Williams Thanks mate, I appreciate the comments. As you can probably tell I like redundancy, I'm not one of those people on naked and afraid who freeze their arses off for 7 days trying to get a fire going.

    Great kit there buddy! So many ways to start fire including Potassium Permanganate + Glycerin reaction. Might copy some of your ideas myself 😁
    Nice video, thanks for sharing.

    Good kit mate.After fiddling around with all kinds of kits and items I decided to go simple and carry less variety; but more of the same. After years of spending time in the bush - hunting, fishing and camping - I decided to throw my hat in the ring and make a few vids myself.

    • @AussieBushman
      @AussieBushman  Před 9 lety +1

      Thanks, to be honest this kit only really comes out when for one reason or another my main fire steel doesn't do the job, usually when the weather is really bad. Though I have found through experience that if you make careful preparations problems making fire rarely arise. I used to go real simple, that is until I really suffered cold and wet through the night out in the bush, constant wind and rain will make anyone struggle to make and maintain fire. BTW I checked out your video good job.

    • @aussiecraig5299
      @aussiecraig5299 Před 9 lety

      desertcommandomaster I know the experience of trying to maintain a fire in wet and windy conditions. It's not fun. I'll do another post later about the bag I carry when I go hunting, camping etc. In one of the pouches, I always carry extra matches, a lighter, the candle that I shaved some wax off, and a couple of fire lighters, which normally is enough to get me out of trouble in those horrible conditions.
      I agree that making the right preps is what is important. I always take a well seasoned timber branch with me as a walking stick. Great for clearing leaves and stuff away to get rid of the creepy crawlies and if I have problems finding dry timber and tinder - can easily cut it up to get a fire going and can easily replace it with another branch later on if I have to.

    • @AussieBushman
      @AussieBushman  Před 10 lety +1

      Thanks, I'm not sure you can have too many different ways of making fire, when your freezing cold and the weather is really bad with wind and rain, you'll be grateful that you have an extra trick or two to start a fire. I've learned the hard way, freezing cold and wet with nothing but some wet matches and a lighter and it took hours to get a fire going, I swore never again. thanks for your comment.

    That thing is slam-packed. You got all the bases covered it seems outside of a saw (which I thought you'd have down at the bottom there 😂).
    Probably 1-2 solid months of continual fire starting opportunities...provided the whole tin is not lost in one fell swoop.
    That would suck.

    Especially like the shotgun shell match holder. And the file as a flint-striker is great.

  • @waveman0

    piss the chapstick off, exchange the full sized Bic for a mini, and put a ranger band or two rather than the jute, don't worry about the tampon or dryer lint and just put in cotton wool balls rubbed in petroleum jelly. Only put in two ferro rods, you don't need three. Don't worry about any of the other chemicals (glycerin etc) as they are just more trouble then they are worth in the long run from what I have seen and they take up so much room in your kit. Fill the room up with wetfire tabs or tinderquiks, in the end it will work out better. I use those trick birthday candles as well, they are not a gimmick and work well. You can get a match safe now without having to make them, the Chinese make them.
    As far as the compass and puri tab, well if you need them in a fire kit well, all good but I include them in other kits.

    I think its too many options. Lighter, Ferro rod, jute and fatwood is good enough. Just carry several small ones in case you lose a kit. One in your pack(big altoid tin), one in a pocket(small altoid tin) and a small kit attached to your knife(small ferro rod and a little fatwood lashed to sheath).

    Impressive little kit. Perhaps add flat fresnel lens, and if u can some fatwood?

    • @AussieBushman
      @AussieBushman  Před 9 lety

      Thanks, I do have a Fresnel lens in my EDC, but I have found that when used for fire starting they tend to deform after a while due to the heat rendering them kinda useless for the task. It can also be difficult to start a fire with them unless you get a strong magnification Fresnel lens 5x magnification minimum, so I prefer to stick with my little glass magnification lens. Regarding Fatwood, I have been trying for a while to source some for myself in the bush, however there are no pine forests in my area, there is just mostly native bushland, I will eventually get some when I finally come across an old pine tree stump. BTW are you from Gog land or did you just visit Llyn Geirionydd?

      I used to live in Wales it's a great place, I've climbed the Pen-y-fan, Snowden and heaps of other places in Wales. I'm back in Australia now hiking around the Great Dividing Range. What's the fun in buying fatwood, it's more satisfying sourcing your own.

    Great kit! I see very few who have a kit more impressive than my own. Is your tin the same depth of an Altoids tin or is it deeper? I have a majority of the items you presented so I just may remodel my kit after your own, if you don't mind. I subscribed as well. Thank you.

    Where can I buy this metal can from? I have looked and can't find any.

    @timlipinski2571 Před 8 lety

    Nice kit ! Maybe your country will think you are an arsonist... (and ban Fire Kits). Humor aside about the only thing missing is a Pencil Sharpener ! A Pencil Sharpener can be used on a twig or Fatwood to make tinder. Also a Pencil Sharpener can be used by young kids that can not be trusted to use a knife safely. Tethered to my Swedish Fire Steel is a beg yellow plastic G. H. Hanson Pencil Sharpener from Home Depot to make tinder. Germany also makes some fine Pencil Sharpeners from Magnesium. Made a One Hand Fire Kit from a large Kiwi Shoe Polish tin-and the tin can be used to make "Char Cloth" ! Doan makes some fine Magnesium bar stock for Fire Kits. Have a credit card size Fresnel Lens in my Maxpedition RFID Blocking Wallet to start fires and read the info sheet for the Fire Kits ! Thank you for a great video ! tjl P.S. To see a BIG knife in use down under check out the CZcams channel EEVblog for the "Monday Mailbag".

      3 ferro rods is a bit of iver kill I think. Just the one with the magnesium would be enough. Then you have more room. Just my 2 bobs worth.
