    I have something similar to that but what I did was make a battle belt with pistol holster, mag pouches two AR-15 mag pouches flashlight and multi tool pouch. I also attached a large pouch which carries basic survival items, cored, esbit stove, poncho, wire cutters, tape, etc. and a water pouch with water bottle & water filter. i also have attached a military IFAC kit. I created the battle belt in case i'm bugged in and have to venture outside for water or other supplies in my urban area. oh fire stating gear of course. thanks for sharing

    It's always a trick carrying what you think you want. My kit and carry has changed these past 3 years. My chest rig is for ammo in the States. You might get rid of the bulk by switching to combination closed flap AR/AK pouches and remove those utility pouches. I would get a US GI belt and put those utility pouches on that and attach it to your Bergen by sewing on paracord or webbing and buckles to make for quick access. I would add a GI water bladder over your rig. That to can be positioned under the Bergen cover flap horizontally for use and access in case you have to bin the bergen. Here in the states my rig is for ammo and knife. I use an ALICE web belt and pack. I replaced the frame so a Molle 2 hip belt can be used. The issue frame is short and has a kidney pad. On the medium ALICE pack US GI sustainment pouches can be added on either side of the medium pack, not the large. Thanks for sharing your vid.

    • @AussieBushman

      Thanks, that is exactly the whole idea - to have every thing I need(the priorities of survival) on my person in case I drop or cache my pack. I know of people who have had their pack go into the river or roll off a mountain, and then they're totally screwed, not going to happen to me for sure. The best thing is this rig is not too big, it doesn't have 20 pouches, it is small enough to wear all the time when I'm in the bush, with or without my backpack.

    I'm actually very impressed! I do have my qualms about over redundancy and kit organization, but I really enjoyed this. The idea of a survival kit built into a chest rig/plate carrier is really cool. That's not something you generally see in American survival circles. Can't wait to try this for myself

    Thanks for sharing buddy. Very thorough and well presented clip. I've gotten some great hints and tips. I'm definitely copying your pack system. I like how this can have essential gear and be strapped to your front, while having a backpack for other gear, so the load is distributed well while all being very customisable. I think i might add the 5.11 Rush 24 backpack so the set will be complete. Cheers!

    The biggest flaw with this kit, is the stuff in the mag pouches not being dummy corded onto the webbing.

    Also just a reminder about woven paracord - it'll never ever be useful unless you want to burn it, or wipe your ass with it. Once you weave it it'll keep those bends for an eternity and turn it into useless nonsense. Couldn't help but notice your boonie band; if you want para cord to survive wrap it around a piece of card or something else.

      It is better to have too much food, water and fire starters than a gun. Once the Ammo is gone, you have no real use it. You can usually get more food - fishing and trapping - water - rivers, lakes - fire starters - all around you. Ammo no gun stores around. This is from an American. Having a Gun is good, but don't make it part of you Bag unless it is absolutely necessary.

    Mate this is just an amazing set up! Thank you very much for taking the time to video it and share it with us. If you don't mind, may I ask a question? I see you have a UST Blastmatch. I usually have the main use of my left hand as my right and is always on my walking stick. I know the Blastmatch is one hand use, my question is, two part: 1/ What is your opinion of the Blastmatch and 2/ does it take much force to actually push down and push in the striker, is it easy enough? Thank you.

    • @AussieBushman
      @AussieBushman  Před 9 lety +1

      Firstly thanks for the positive comments, I really appreciate it. Regarding the UST Blastmatch, it doesn't take a lot of force to press in the striker button part, it is fairly easy once you get used to it, so I recommend that you practice at home first before you need it in any kind of survival situation.
      It works pretty well for a few reasons; firstly the size of the ferro-rod is quite large, secondly because of the design and technique it places the sparks right in the center of the tinder with very little affecting the overall performance.
      Note: I have seen these fail in a survival situation- after extended heavy use the ferro-rod broke because of incorrect use, so you need to be careful with them and use them correctly. Are you aware of the one handed way of using almost any fire steel? What you do is grab a multitool blade, a knife-back or a large striker(the multitool blade works best), you place your foot on the multitool and using one hand pull the fire steel back against the blade or striker just above your tinder(you can use a small log or cut piece of wood under the multitool to raise it above the tinder a bit. I hope this info helps.

    I'm, looking for such a MS2000, but her in Germany sometimes it's hard to get one for a reasonable price...at the Moment I made some Price proposals to some Dealers..
    the SP128 is a great Piece for such a kit :)

    After our last Posts in the 72h-bugOut-Bag- Video, I owned some other stuff to arrange two kits that are comfartable for me .. remembered some of your tips/advises and time by time I tested this and that and so my gear for longer/shorter packages seems to be nearly ready.... for now :)
    Made a US-Set, a british PLCE-Set and a german -BW-Set with some austrian/swiis parts..
    Get off the US ALICE-Pack and some other gear and went to the PLCE Rucksacks and british gear , which works partly more convenient for me.. the german-BW-Gear is already in test-phase

    @skippydigger3162 Před 10 lety

    Hey mate, just happened to stumble upon your video.
    I just had a couple of questions and points of consideration on possibly improving your kit.
    1. It seems like you have quite a bit of kit (which is good), however wouldn't a small day pack serve you better?
    There are a lot of little nick nacks, which are great, and they have been compartmentalised to some extent which is great, but if you were to go for your combat dressing you will spill half your kit. A little day pack with zippered sections seems like the better option.
    2. You have got some meds which is awesome. I noticed you have cut the packaging down so they would fit in the canister, might I suggest writing the expiry date with a sharpie or something similar so you know when to chuck them out and replace. Also there is the obvious, use on yourself but not on others, or you will open yourself up to a whole bunch of liability issues.
    3. As a bug out option, doesn't the chest rig sort of make you stick out? If I was bugging out because of a disaster the last thing I would want is to flaunt the fact that I may have some useful resources and make myself an unnecessary target. Again this brings me back to the point 1 where I think a small day pack will serve you better. I understand that chest rigs look cool, but in a bug out situation, isn't survival the number one consideration?
    4. Some of the items you have are "issued" but just as easily picked up from a surplus store. Do you have military experience? Generally in my chest rig I would have magazines, gloves, toggle rope, small trauma kit, multitool, knife, light, notepad, writing equipment, nav equipment, a small survival kit and water and everything else in a pack. Some times I would rock a large field pack, sometime a small day pack, I had most of my kit in my pack and some mission essentials in my webbing so when I dumped my pack and couldn't recover, I still had something. Again, I might suggest a small pack.
    5. If you are looking to keep your chest rig, might I suggest replacing the triple magazine shingle with some more pouches. realistically the only people with magazines that will fit those pouches are military, police or some primary producers. Most civilians do not have access to gas operate rifles with 30 round magazines. Those shingles are too small to hold or water bottle or anything and if you have some other kit, because they are not secured by a flap or zip they will fall out if you are running, upside down or crawling. The only thing those pouches are good for are holding 30 round mags or something of equivalent shape and size.
    6. I noticed you have an IR Chem light, its a bit useless unless you have NVGs aren't they? Wouldn't classic green, red, blue and white chem lights serve you better?
    7. The saying "Two is one, one is none" is true, you have backups of backups of lights, multitools etc. The one problem I see is that they are all in your chest rig. If you have to dump your rig for whatever reason, if you lose it or if it is taken from you, you have lost quite a bit of kit. This is why, in the Army, one person does not carry everything, the stores are divided among the group. Having a whole bunch of kit in your chest rig and not splitting it around seems like placing all your egg in one basket to me.
    8. Belt rigs while they don't look as "Tactical Operator" are great at distributing weight, are comfortable, have plenty of space, are comfortable when a pack is worn and will hold all your gear. The army transitioned to chest systems because it is easier to get in and out of vehicles, get through doorways and such however if you ask anyone thats been in a few years for going out into the bush nothing beats a belt rig.

    • @AussieBushman
      @AussieBushman  Před 10 lety

      G'day mate, what an essay, you have a lot of valid points and some great suggestions. You obviously have some experience in the subject, which is rare around CZcams. I do use a small day pack a Camelbak HAWG, when I'm not carrying my Camelbak Motherlode. I use the chest rig for the exact same reason as enlisted men - to easily get in and out of my vehicle, I also use it when tracking and hunting and when I'm 4x4ing I'm in and out of the vehicle all the time. I'm working on a better compartmentalization of my chest rig with small pouches, so things don't fall out when accessing it and I might change out the triple mag shingle even though I'm happy with it at the moment. I've tested it out in the field repeatedly and I haven't lost anything. Most items are a duplication or an alternative of items in my bug-out bag, so if I lost it or had to ditch it, I will still have all the essential items on my person. This is also why I have a chest rig so if I am being pursued in a bug-out scenario, I could ditch or cache my BOB and still have the important stuff. If I had to ditch both my BOB and my chest rig, I carry my SAS survival kit SAS E&E Survival Tin - Kit in my cargo pocket or in a pouch on my belt with my SRK Cold Steel SRK Carbon V Mod With Sheath Survival Fire & Fishing Kit. Having a team or a squad to share the load is great in a perfect world, but SHTF is exactly that, I live in the country and the other members of my team live over a large area, so I have to make sure that I can take care of myself without any support, until members of my team can get together. With a decent jacket my chest rig is fairly well concealed at least until viewed up close or with optics. I have an IR chem stick for use with my NV equipment, you're correct it would be useless if I didn't have NVG's. I usually write the expiry on my meds(they are only for my personal use), I always do on my water-purification tabs, however they are swapped out/rotated regularly. I have a belt kit with awesome padding it's great, I used it for the longest time, but I find the chest rig comfortable. I might split things up a bit between a belt kit and my chest rig I'll see how I go. Thanks for your comments.

      Good on ya mate, you seem like you have your head screwed in well.
      There are two latin saying that I try to keep in mind in everything I do:
      In Omnia Paratus (In all things prepared)
      Semper Paratus (Always Prepared)
      US Marine General Mattis once said "Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everybody you meet."
      If we apply this to civilian life, we can see it as live your day to day lives as any "normal" person would but always have an exit plan. *walk into a building and see where/how many exits there are, if there is a fire are you one of those sheep who will be crushed trying to squeeze out the way you came in because that is the only exit you know or are you the one who can get your family/loved ones to safety because you planned ahead?"
      I wrote an essay, but I was in no way having a go at you *sorry if it sounded that way*.
      I live in the city so instead of bugging out the situation would probably be getting home and then staying put, however for the same reasons as you I always keep my webbing and pack in the car with food and water provisions to last a week, maybe more if I decide to go Jenny Craig and ration it out.
      For your purposes I think SORD's 4x40mm grenade pouches would be great! They don't take up too much space BUT have small pockets with a flap for you to separate your kit and keep it secure. When I don't have rounds, I use mine to separate my chocolate bars from my chocolate spreads hahaha.
      Anyways have a good one buddy. Keep it up.

      Thanks your welcome, that's great if you got some ideas on how to organize and separate the gear, what's important is that you have at least one of each key essential items in each TIER eg: first-aid, shelter, fire, water and maybe a little food(in that default order), with the smallest items in your EDC TIER I, small items in your TIER II and the luxury, comfortable and larger items in your TIER III and/or TIER IV. The FILBE is a solid looking system, thanks for your comment.

      Mate, just so you know desertcommandomaster doesn't actually mean anything, it was just 3 random words that I put together for an email address to stop spam back when the spam filters were total shit and I was getting a hundred or more spam every single day, I just couldn't be bothered changing it until recently. It doesn't matter what someone calls themselves it's the quality of the gear, the info and the videos. If I knew how to edit the audio on the videos I would. To be honest, I didn't think anyone would give a shit about what I called myself as it didn't mean anything to me.

    You have some really interesting items I've not seen before. I love that survival mirror, I think that's a fantastic piece of kit. But anyways, I was just wondering what your philosophy of use is for this set up. I can tell that it's definitely survival/bug out related,but do you take this rig with you on bushcraft trips or is it more intended for emergencies?

    • @AussieBushman
      @AussieBushman  Před 8 lety

      +Zach Lutes Thanks, even though it is a bugout survival rig I do take it with me every time I go to the bush, hunting, tracking, camping whatever, most of my gear is setup in this way, not just for bugging out but so I can use it for camping, hunting etc. it helps ensure that I know what's in everything and the items are well maintained, re-stocked and most important of all useful or necessary, because if you don't use something regularly you get sick of carrying it and it gets taken out.
      The main idea with this chest rig is that if my main pack has to be ditched in a bugout scenario or it goes over a cliff or down the river, or if I leave camp without my main pack I still have the essential items for survival, in fact I have a lot more than the essential items. I also use this setup because when I'm 4-wheel driving, hunting or tracking I'm in and out of the vehicle all day, the chest rig allows me to keep some essential gear on my body including communication, were if I was using a day pack it has to be taken on and off relentlessly which gets real old real fast and risks getting left behind or forgotten.

    • @zachlutes123
      @zachlutes123 Před 8 lety

      Wow that's excellent.I want to get a chest rig and gun belt so i can more evenly distribute weight around my body, because i really don't like over-sized backpacks stuffed to the brim.

    • @AussieBushman
      @AussieBushman  Před 8 lety

      +Zach Lutes I forgot to mention the most inspiration for my bugout chest rig and that is the famous or infamous Bravo Two Zero, the British SAS mission during the Gulf war in Iraq where the members of Bravo Two Zero were compromised and they had to bugout in order to save their lives.
      They each carried a huge Bergen full of kit which weighed an absurd amount and each soldier had a belt kit. When they bugged-out they had to ditch their Bergen's and they were only able to grab a couple of items out of their packs before ditching them and in the process forgetting some of the most important items, which left them with only a few items, their belt kit and weapons. They were then caught in one of the worst ever storms, some got separated and one member of the group died and all but one of the rest (Chris Ryan) were captured by the enemy.
      I realised that even the most highly trained professionals sometimes have to bugout and that when you bugout you can't necessarily take your backpack or Bergen with you, you might only be able to take what is on your person or attached to your body in some way. The SAS and other special forces have it all figured out so who am I to re-invent the wheel, I'm just putting more survival based items in my chest rig instead of ammo. If there is a possibility that I will have to bugout, I put my chest rig on and have my Bergen ready, if I'm going to war I do the same as the SAS and fill it with ammo.

    • @zachlutes123

      @AussieBushman  Před 8 lety +1

    How do you manage to get knives if you're in Australia? I'm in QLD and I want to get a Mora from BronzeMoon but I don't know if they will get seized by customs. How do you get around this? Great video's too, really cool to see what you have.

    • @AussieBushman
      @AussieBushman  Před 10 lety

      That's a good question, please note: I'm not a lawyer and I don't live in QLD. If you want a more specific answer, I need to know exactly what knife you want to buy and where you want to buy it from, I also suggest that you ask a QLD knife collector for help, they will have a better understanding of your situation in QLD.
      The answer to your question is complicated and is dependent on the exact type of knife. - I think you might be mainly talking about the new laws in QLD which basically made almost all folding knives illegal to possess, this is a state issue so you need to a) have a valid legal reason to own and/or possess the knife and b) make sure that the folding knife cannot be opened with one hand(so tighten the screw really well to avoid this).
      Regarding importing folding knives, some regular single edged folding knives can be seized if they open too easily, so you need to have the supplier tighten the screw before sending you the knife and you just loosen it again when you receive it(but in your case I suggest leaving the screw tightened to avoid prosecution).
      If the knife you want to import is a single edged fixed blade knife, then there is almost no problem, if it's a dagger you need a permit to import and also permission to own from the police(this depends on which state your in), you also need a permit to import a lot of other knives, I've imported knives with no problems and then all of a sudden customs seizes the next shipment of exactly the same knife they approved last time, this is because it is up to the individual customs officer to interpret the law, which is ridiculous.
      Again, I really need to know exactly what knife you want to buy and where you want to buy it from, and I still suggest that you ask a QLD knife collector for advice. I hope that I have helped you a bit and thanks for your comments.

      Oscar Fricke
      Thanks, I would recommend the SORD chest rig 100%, this is down-right the best rig I've ever had and I've tried many different styles and models, the SORD is small and compact enough so I can still wear my pack at the same time while on infil and exfil in and out of the bush, it is also great to wear while hunting and 4x4ing which requires getting in and out of the vehicle all the time, with the SORD you don't have to take it off, just slip your pack off and keep your chest rig on, this also ensures that you have the most important gear on your person at all times. I've tested it in all types of terrain including really steep bush and it's fantastic, it stays close against my body and is cool and comfortable(if I want even more ventilation I just fold the bib down). There is also heaps of modular attachments and configurations. The only downside of the rig is getting it on and off, you can use the main strap clips if needed, but I prefer to just un-clip the back strap and slip it over my head, I know a few guys who don't like having to slide it over your head, I think it's a matter of personal preference, I think all the positives out way that one possible negative. One thing is for sure I'm sticking with this for the future.
