They are singing live, and it has to be live. They are allowed to have some recorded backing track, but the main vocal has to be live.
All the yum-yums are playback though. Same with the dance break
Fun fact: The spaceman DJ is singing one of the parts of the song. One of the two main wolves at the front could dance but couldn't sing.

Another great reaction! Slightly off-topic, but Eurovision 2021 was also a very special year with a lot of great entries. If you do that year as well, and you need to pick just five, go for the actual top five, as they're all great:

The wolf howl in the beginning is surprisingly not an effect. It’s actually the Norwegian member of the band singing! Also their song after this was about a specific kind of peaches, it’s called Melocoton 😊.

Subwolfer have their own CZcams channel, and they have to sing it live, the wolfs weren't singing, the DJ was singing, also the Eurovision have halftime shows while they move stages around for the acts.
One of the wolves was singing, I think Keith was singing but Jim is just a dancer. And then they had to switch costumes every time they did an interview haha. They still have 2 vocalists after all

I'm from Madrid, Spain, and I usually watch eurovision every year since i was a little girl. The vocals are live, but the music must be prerecorded. The backing vocals can be both.

Just a heads up, reacting to Eurovision will most likely get you a lot or viewers and subscribers. Also, I felt really bamboozled when they revealed that one of the wolfs is just a dancer, and the actual singer is the guy in the spacesuit 👀👀

Not true... both wolfs are singers. One of them are from A1 (Ben Adams) the other one is Gaute Ormåsen.
Gaute usually is in the other wolf, but at Eurovision he was too afraid to mess up when he was both signing and dancing so he switched to be DJ Astronaut instead.

As for the singing, the main vocals are live (background vocals can be taped) but the music is prerecorded. At the beginning there was a live orchestra but it was changed in the 90s (I think) and good riddance, too, they butchered one of my favorite songs.

So a little bit of context with Subwoolfer, we (or more specifically the wider international audience) didn't know who the people under the masks were and it was still kept a secret until the Norwegian national final this year so it was like a year long The Masked Singer but actually it was The Worst Kept Secret for us that are Norwegian (half in my case, the other half of me is British) 😅

It has to be sung live. Instrumentals are playback, we used to have an orchestra for live music.
Since Covid back up vocals can be recorded though. It was planned to be a rule just for 2021 but they kept it. But the main singer(s) have to sing live.

Another one of the lead vocalists in this performance is actually the astronaut because he couldn't sing while dancing 😂
The singers kept their identities secret until the spring 2023 when they revealed their song "worst kept secret" and revealed themselves at the same time in life performance. You can find it in youtube.
I don't know if you've looked this up yet or not, but, the ones singing live at the performance is one of the wolves and the astronaut dj in the back.
The other wolf is just a actor/dancer. Wolf and dj changed places behind the scenes every time to keep the charade going! 😂

They are singing live. In fact you HAVE TO sing live in Eurovision, as playback is not allowed! The only voices you can pre-record are the backing vocals. But the actual song has to be live always. Also, in case you didnt know, every song has to be an original song too, so you cant sing a cover.
Yeah, and some artistes (looking at you Blanka) just shove some of their singing into the backing vocals lol

About singing live. Yes, according to the rules of the contest "Lead vocals must be performed live". If I reall there is a tiny bit of the performance that can be pre-recorded, just a few seconds.
From the Eurovision website stating the rules for the 2025 Eurovision competition:
* All songs shall be performed live on the stage in the Host City at the selected Venue with recorded Backing Tracks.
* No on-stage Contestant (whether Lead Singer(s), or dancers) shall be allowed to lip-sync in such a way as to give the impression that they are singing when they actually are not.
* No pitch-correction (e.g. Auto-tuning) for live vocals shall be allowed in any case for the live Act performances on stage.
Also no instrument that you can see on stage is actually plugged in so when you see people on drums or keyboard those are all pre-recorded and the artist is just mimicing.
There are also rules that there can be no live animals on stage.
Re: Subwoolfer they embrace the meme/jokiness of it (yest there are other fruit songs czcams.com/video/F_PdO_oD6cM/video.html) with multiple songs related to it (think The Lonely Island). They did a reveal, but at the end of the day they are very talented established artists.
The progression of Norwegian songs could be a plot in itself...

Yes, people will say Serbia or Italy or others are missing but I needed to choose just 5 songs and the first 4 are instant Eurovision classics and they (Joe and Mike) needed to see the Woolfies.
I would also like to add Serbia, Moldova, Romania, Latvia, Lithuania and more.
Even Portugal that is my country and has made me very proud in 2022 but I had to choose only 5.

You should check Serbia's 2022 entry - Konstrakta - In Corpore Sano. It is pure art performance.
They tried to launch an American Song Contest in 2022, with all US states participating with an original song each. Kelly Clarkson and Snoop were hosts but it flopped, unfortunately. Sooo… I’m not sure a Eurovision medley would fly at the Super Bowl. 😂
