As an Italian I think it could be really interesting to see how a unified Italian state would compete with the others European powers. This would be quite interesting for the Renaissance as the greater wealth from the lucrative Americas (especially those in modern Peru and Mexico) would help further the funding of things like art, statues and philosophy, which would help in the rise of universities and colleges on the mainland of Florence and the rest of the Italian peninsula.
Perhaps the Renaissance would carry on for atleast another century, leading to a resurgence in Italian identity as heirs of Classical Roman civilisation. Another thing to take into account would be the Papal states as that same wealth would enrich the Catholic Church further and empowering their already strong authority.

      @testascura.1874 Před měsícem +3

hey great comment but as Italian I have unfortunatly bust this interesting scenario; I have to explain what Renaissance actually was at the time, it was surely a rediscovery of classic culture, but a lot of art stuff was financed by nobles families; but you might think why this happened. It was more of less like the space race in Cold War the "signorie" of center-north Italy were rival, at the time they were the economic power house of Europe, but no one of them was enough strong to unify Italy; so they began to build art masterpieces to flex theyre power; the more beautiful was the court the more important was the signoria Renascence would probably be more philosophy centrated and having signorie alleys each other would likely have turned out in less paintings and less monument/churches. The saved money would be spent in the "compagnia delle indie occidentali italiane"

I'm sad you didn't talk about Venice at all.
I know the chance of them caring, or participating, is slim (given how ludicrously wealthy trade with the Arab states made them) but the production capabilities of their Arsenal alone make them important for naval dominance.
If we're assuming an Italian trading company, investment from the Venetians and Genoans could give them some much needed naval power; they'd also have a, frankly, stupid amount of money to play with. Obviously, this is unlikely and a little unrealistic, but an pan-Italian mercantile empire is basically Renaissance on steroids, and is cool to think about (and I think in the spirit of the topic)

Literally all combinations have happened during the Reconquista, you'd just have a Spain and Portugal/Navarra/Aragon/Valencia, since more than two countries wouldn't be stable in Iberia and allways the bigger one would be called Spain (Hispania, España, Espanha or Espanya). The only meaningful diference is that in the specific case where Navarra stays strong Basque would be a pretty big language in Europe and probably in North America and the Caribbean (Somewhat like a "What if Wales unified Britain?" kind of scenario).

Italy would probably have large swathes over north Africa and coastal Balkan lands. Maybe the Mediterranean coast of the middle east
Germany would have much of Europe, the rest of Africa, and the European parts of Russia.
Japan would have the entirety of southeast Asia and much of Oceania. Depending on when the British surrender, also Australia.
They'd have the Siberian parts of Russia and much of the east and central Asia.
Britain has two possibilities, they continue the fight and get conquered, or they give up early. Maybe after the fall of France. If they give up early, their empire will largely stay intact. Africa and eventually India being no more.
The u.s has a few possibilities, the could fight, and if everything went perfect they'd lose, or they would sell the Philippines and continue selling oil to Japan. I think the Germans might leave the u.s and Americans alone due to its high German populations. Japan will probably see them as a trusted trading partner.
I don't think it's improbable that a far right president gets into office, and takes the very slow transition to a dictatorship. Conquering the Americas under the guise of, "spreading democracy and freedom"

Pizarro's and Cortez's conquests are 1 in a million historical flukes. They were diplomatic geniuses. Not something that can be replicated. And heavily intermarried with local Nobility to set up alliances. 160 Spanish + 40k native allies conquered the Inca + Half the Inca estate (they were in civil war) + all the other native kingdoms that wanted independence, like 100% of the coastal kingdoms of Peru.

    There is another MAYOR scenario:
If Naples (at that time part of the Crown of Aragon) had colonial posessions under the same King of Spain, but in the war of Spanish Succession they got independence but kept their colonies and, later, the Kingdom of Italy got those colonies in America when they unified. That would meaningfully change Italy since it'd be unified South to North, oposite to our timeline, and they would have some colonies and likely wouln't be so incompetent in Africa. Also, modern Italian would most likely be Neopolitan instead of Tuscan and there would be many more speakers in the world.

Suggestion: What if the Allies recognized Ho Chi Minh's Democratic Republic of Vietnam after the August Revolution in 1945, rather than allowing the French to return to Indochina.
The early DRV shared power between the Indochinese Communist Party and Vietnamese Nationalist Party, and from what I understand of the situation, Ho Chi Minh hoped to become an American ally, with the OSS backing Viet Minh activity and the establishment of the DRV. It wasn't until British troops reinstated French rule in the south that things began to break down, especially once the Chinese Nationalists left their occupation zone in the North with the Viet Minh in power in the major cities.

It could be possible, that if the Italian West Indies Company was able to bring back enough wealth and gather enough soldiers (or mercenaries), not unlike the British East Indies in our timeline, they could possibly incite coups or make deals with the various Italian governments to force them into a "North Italian Confederation" of sorts, making the new Confederation a truly economic powerhouse in the Mediterranean, but also with a large enough military to protect itself from the French and Habsburgs. If they did it with the Popes blessing, they may even be able to acquire some or most of the Papal State lands as well.
